Whenever things are not working, either relationally or in the results you desire, there is an opportunity for transformation. The transformation process begins with discovery and transformative learning. Transformative learning is a process of how individuals interpret, confirm, and change the meaning of their experience. For people to change their behavior, which is a direct result of their "belief systems or frames of reference” (a set of mutually supportive beliefs, attitudes, and emotional reactions), they need to engage in reflective practice regarding their experiences. Donald Schon, an influential thinker in developing the theory and practice of reflective professional learning defines it as: “The capacity to reflect on action so …show more content…
The first involves critical self-observation, self-reflection and practice. The other revolves more connecting to intuition and emotional intelligence as well as incorporating the idea of generating different possibilities as a part of a creative process. A TRANSFORMATIONAL METAPHOR Perhaps the best way to understand transformation is to think about the process of a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly. The caterpillar reaches a point in its life cycle where it is ready to change. It constructs a cocoon to protect and provide a structure for change. Inside the cocoon it dissolves and reforms as a new being. Once the process has been completed, it breaks away the cocoon and re-enters the world in a new form and engages with life in a new way. FIGURE 1 - TRANSFORMATIONAL METAPHOR Similarly, when we engage in transformational practices we begin the process of changing our way of being. While we don’t change form physically, our mindsets and belief systems change and that in turn allows us to engage the world in a new way. This process has three …show more content…
This leads to acting on new possibilities and new results. Things are transformed. THE ROLE OF THE LEADER IN TRANSFORMATION The role of the leader (or facilitator) in the transformational process is to “hold the space” so that people can become aware of and/or connect to what is going on for them and for others, without judgment. This helps people get a clearer sense about what is going on in current reality and clears the way for intentional actions and achieving optimal or unprecedented results in a more connected way. Holding the space is about “learning how” to be with others without judgment. As a leader or facilitator, you have to; 1) let go of judgments, 2) open your heart, 3) be fully present, and 4) allow the other person to experience whatever they are experiencing. You are not trying to fix, affect or influence the situation or outcome. You are simply being with it/them and you are creating a space between stimulus and response in order for people to engage in the transformational process. Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In the space there is the power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom. –Victor

...forming productive friendships with teachers. I can say from experience, that one bad teacher can have a huge impact on how students interact with new teachers. Which if a student has these walls built, that does not support a comfortable, safe, or uplifting classroom for students to work in. Which could indefinitely hold the student back from truly learning in the classroom.
Many people have transformed, or changed, throughout their lives, either in a positive or a negative way. But what does it mean to transform? That can be different between people and the way they think. Some think it's something unacceptable and you should try avoiding it, others want to transform themselves. To transform, you just need to see the true meaning of things and be happy. It is possible to change, but you need a reason to change. You need motivation, just like how you need the motivation to do the things you love to do.
One of the greatest privileges an individual has is the ability to comprehend the changes that come with life. Once someone feels he or she has lost this power, he or she assumes that he or she has lost everything. In Plato’s “The Allegory of the Cave,” he states that “we are always in a state of becoming.” He argues that humans are constantly on the way to another state of being. He is correct: humans are ever-changing beings who don’t want to change. Humans are constantly asked who they are but how are they supposed to figure out who they if they are constantly changing? People are predisposed with the gift of being able to perceive different forms of

Individuals and groups are influenced by change that is cataclysmic, whether it would be inevitable or voluntary. As discussed above, change can be seen as acceptance. Once one accepts this change it is adopted but one must live to fulfill it.
Then, as usual, they share they knowledge with others in an accurate way by analyzing carefully and with maturity what they have learned (socialize). Finally, having a new perspective of the situations creates changes in some aspects and then is when the transformation occurs. Marmon endorses the ideas of Mezirow’s article, Learning as transformation, to explain the three levels of transformation: “Meanings; premises, assumption, or habits of mind, and meaning perspectives”. She also agrees with him that when an adult embraces a new way of recognizing the world he or she has experienced a Transformative
Transformative learning therefore is a fluid process that examines, challenges, questions and later revises perceptions. The process or discovery and evolving revision is the function of transformative learning. The authors also state that the core of transformative learning theory is based on constructivist, humanism and critical social theory.
Below each level is identified, along with tools and techniques to help one achieve their goals of mind shifting. The author himself has provided specific examples of his skills and experience as a change agent and innovator.
Schon (1983) identified “reflection on action” and “reflection in action”. In reflection on action, professionals consciously scrutinise their past practice to gain insight and improve future practice.
Change indicates moving from one form to another. Originally this would be from the innate, original into something refined, something that is still a working progress eventually into the completed form.
Changing in perspectives is in a person’s freeing from his own beliefs, actions, attitudes, values and feelings that have been limited and one-sided
Change can have many meanings. It is going from “same” to “different”. Change can be defined as an event that occurs when something passes from one state or phase to another and as a process of transition. The forces of change affect attitudes, beliefs and behavior. Not a single moment goes by when everything in our lives will remain the same. When you become adjusted to your surroundings, something changes again. Changes can affect both individuals and groups. Throughout our lives we go through many changes, especially in adolescence.
79). Transition involves the impact of change on the aforementioned individual or group and the successive (variable and immeasurable) mind, body and soul evolution that transpires as a result (Mclean, 2011, p. 79). Neither transition nor change guarantee a simple, straightforward or comfortable process. Change without transition is a possibility; however, transition will not occur independent of change. Both are constants in life and are capable of greatly impacting or altering the life course of an
