The article ‘Donald or Daffy’ written in the lead-up to the US election by Piers Morgan, demonstrates a bias strongly in favour of Donald Trump. The article highlights the writer’s views of what Trump has said and what he thinks he will actually do if he becomes president. Throughout the article, there is an extensive use of emotive language which the writer uses to influence the reader to his point of view. This combined with thes use of idioms and imagery, attempts to sway the reader to believe that Donald Trump is not as extreme as some people may believe. Therefore, this article demonstrates an enormous amount of bias.

The writer uses a variety of language features, such as idioms, to further persuade the readers to his point of view. ‘My mate Trump’s bark is more dangerous than his bite’ is a clever use of an idiom. The writer has used these words to further influence the reader to his point of view and stimulate certain positive emotions towards Donald Trump. Another language feature that was smartly included was Alliteration. The article describes Trump as a ‘big, bold, brash, ballsy and an uncompromising braggart’. This emphasises the positive attitude the writer continues to show towards Trump, while also making the text more memorable. These language features appeal to the reader’s emotions by arguing the authors point of view with an emotional response, therefore including pathos in the article.
