There are many places where domestic violence is a big issue, and while there may be many groups and organizations out there that can offer their services, domestic violence can still go on unnoticed. This can be because one doesn’t recognize that they are a victim, they might have the misconception that abuse is only something that is physical, they could be too afraid to seek assistance, or maybe even because they aren’t being informed enough on where to get the needed help. The point of this proposal is to get the attention of the organizations and community groups that assist with helping those in domestic violence cases, so that awareness can be increased by posting more ads, flyers, online websites etc. With the increase of awareness …show more content…

For the first time all of AWAIC’s programs were located in one building and the shelter allowed women, men and children to stay up to a month, with an approved extension if needed.
AWAIC’s EVENTS
When trying to raise the awareness more about domestic violence AWAIC organizes several different events throughout the year. These events will also raise funding needed to support their programs and services. Already, through the help and generosity of the community members, AWIAC has been able to provide more than 1,000,000 individual services to their abuse victims since 1977 till now. With the help of AWAIC and the community we can add to the methods used to raise awareness so that we can help those going through domestic violence escape a dangerous fate. …show more content…

The APA task force on violence and the family, has defined domestic violence as a pattern of abusive behaviors including a wide range of physical, sexual, and psychological maltreatment used by one person in an intimate relationship against another to gain power unfairly or maintain that persons misuse of power, control, and authority. Psychological studies have shown that when one form of violence was found in a family, other forms were more likely to also occur, and that violence in the family has a direct relationship to community violence and other forms of aggression and gender-based violence. There is also something called a “domestic quarrel” although psychological research indicates that without an intervention, abusers are unlikely to seek help to stop their battering behavior. Psychological research also demonstrates that there is a strong relationship between violence at home and violence in the community. It shows that violence is in fact a learned behavior that is passed down from one generation to the next. So a reason why any person would use violence against his/her wife, husband or child is because of an early exposure to it in his or her childhood home.
