Every day, the President of the United States (POTUS) has to make many decisions about different issues domestically and internationally. While domestic issues are not easy to deal with, international issues are even more complicated because the POTUS has to think about his own country, as well as at least one other country. The three most important things the POTUS has to keep in mind is finding a way to balance his obligation to protecting the lives of his citizens and the country in general, knowing when to get involved in a situation that we are not directly involved in, and at the same time, trying to keep our relations with other countries as smooth as possible. The POTUS’s top priority is always his country, and the people in it. When the United States is directly involved in a conflict, the decision about whether or not we should address the issue is much more black and white, but when the U.S. is not directly involved, there is a grey area. The POTUS needs to think about whether or not getting involved is economically responsible, because a big mistake like that can …show more content…
seriously hurt the United States’s economy. The POTUS also needs to think about more than the economy; what if there is an immediate threat to the lives of U.S. citizens? The POTUS needs to consider how we should go about a situation like that. Is it possible to peacefully negotiate? Or do we have to use military force? The POTUS also needs to consider if other countries will retaliate against our country because of our actions. It is necessary for the POTUS to think about how our actions in other countries will affect the public view of the government. It is important that the citizens have trust in the government, and right now, they have very little trust. U.S. citizens are not the only citizens that the POTUS needs to think about. Our presence in other countries has dramatically changed how people in other countries think about us. While in the early 20th century, immigrants thought of the United States as the land of opportunity where the streets were paved with gold. Today, when people from foreign countries may only know the U.S.A. as the country which uses drones to watch them from the sky. The citizens’ opinions on our country is very important, but the president needs to consider how the governments of other countries will think about our actions. Our relations with other countries are important for allowing the world to operate. If we have bad relations with other countries, we will not be able to come to agreements with them. If we can not come to agreements about trade, for instance, we will have huge economic issues due to having lower resources than we need. In the past, many people and groups have taken issue with our government’s pattern of going into other countries when we are not directly involved.
This has had large negative impacts on the world, and some have argued that it is a major factor in the political unrest in the Middle East. Before we get involved in conflicts that we are not related to, we need to think about whether or not the countries involved want us to jump in; if we want to improve our relations with other countries, we need to make sure that they are on board with some of our decisions. If we are not involved in a conflict, but still join in, it sets a precedent that we are policing the rest of the world, and this increases tensions between us and the countries that do not want us joining in on other countries’ affairs. We can not have good relations with countries in the Middle East if they do not want us
there. The issue in the Middle East specifically is more complicated than that. For example, many countries and organizations in the Middle East and Europe have been divided on America’s involvement in helping the refugees. Part of the reason is because we could be considered partially involved in the crisis. The refugees are leaving Syria because of the current civil war. There has been a lot of political unrest in the Middle East since we invaded Iraq, which may have led to the civil war happening in Syria. The other argument is that there was political unrest in the Middle East long before we got involved. The POTUS needs to consider how the citizens of our country and the citizens of other countries will react to our actions in international affairs. He also needs to think about how the governments of those other countries will react. While there are times where the U.S.A. really does need to get involved in a foreign conflict, many countries may feel that our actions post-WWII have been overly aggressive. We need to stop and think about how our actions will affect our citizens, our economy, and other countries.
Of the most powerful people in the world, the President of the United States of America hits the top of the list. Even though the policy agendas that presidents set as they take office often go unfulfilled, the office of President is still one of the most envied spots to have. But why could this be? It is because the United States is the most powerful nation in the world and with the President as the leader, he is said to have the most power in the world ("Top Ten Most Powerful Countries in the World"). With power comes responsibility and with this position he must govern a country while abiding by the rules.
Saddam’s government collapse in the US impacted the country of Iraq by creating a democratic government where the citizens have rights. Two years earlier Afghanistan was invaded by the us because their government was believed to be an aid to Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. Later the US defeated Afghanistan’s government, the Taliban and established a democratic government like in Iraq today. We can infer that the Middle East has complicated problem going on with the region, that not even the u.s. president can figure out. (Doc C) all in all the US has impacted the region of the Middle East and build a strong relationship with it over the past
The book A Concise History of U.S. Foreign Policy, by Joyce Kaufman, and the essay, American Foreign Policy Legacy by Walter Mead both acknowledge the history, and the importance of American foreign policy. The two argue that American foreign policy has always been an essential aspect of the prosperity and health of the United States. After reading these writings myself, I can agree that American foreign policy in the U.S. has always been detrimental to the success of this nation. Throughout history most Americans have had very little interest in foreign affairs, nor understood the importance. This essay will address the importance of foreign policy, why Americans have little interest in foreign affairs, and what the repercussions
...es when it comes to implementing controversial foreign policy decisions that directly affect Americans and those in different countries. The main aspect of the affair that greatly influences the United States’ government is ensuring that its past imperialistic motives do not become an integral part of American affairs once again.
...he immediate security of uninvolved countries thus far. The concern here is, even if the attempt to get aid, in the form of supplies, food and medicine to the least morally offensive group, is not futile, that the act of providing aid to the rebel forces may directly threaten the financial and physical security and safety of the United States directly, which must be avoided.
...hat involve the situation but also the people of the country they are dealing with, because they might cut off aid to a country because the leader of the country might be a dictator the people would have to live in poverty. (14) I think this would be the best position because everyone would benefit from the situation. (15)In the Geneva Conference the U.S should have stayed out of Indochina’s business. The Chilean Revolution they United States should have never cut off aid to Chile for the reason being that the citizens of Chile would live in poverty. In the Panama Canal the United States did the right thing because they built it and owned it for several years and then in the year 2000 it passed it to the government of Panama.(16)in conclusion the United States should keep working on being the leading country of the world and not bring anymore problems upon themselves.
Political scientists have continually searched for methods that explain presidential power and success derived from using that power effectively. Five different approaches have been argued including the legal approach, presidential roles approach, Neustadtian approach, institutional approach, and presidential decision-making approach. The legal approach says that all power is derived from a legal authority (U.S. Constitution). The presidential roles approach contends that a president’s success is derived from balancing their role as head of state and head of government. The Neustadtian approach contends that “presidential power is the power to persuade“ (Neustadt, p. 11). The institutional approach contends that political climate and institutional relations are what determines presidential power. The last approach, decision-making, provides a more psychological outlook that delves into background, management styles, and psychological dispositions to determine where a president’s idea of power comes from. From all of these, it is essential to study one at a time in order to analyze the major components of each approach for major strengths and weaknesses.
In some cases this intervention in other countries could cause the situation to become far worse. In Darfur two rebel movements took up arms against the Sudanese government over a lack of protection from invading nomads and the marginalization of the area. “Saddam responded to the domestic uprisings with extreme brutality, killing perhaps 20,000 Kurds and 30,000-60,000 Shiites, many of them civilians” (Valentino). An intervention of Saddam’s brutality was attempted and after 100 hours the US withdrew forces. The intervention was entirely unsuccessful, even with foreign aid. And in retribution Saddam brutally killed tens of thousands of people, many of which were
The pro-Israel intervention represented the US foreign policy reaction when the violation to regional stability was committed by Israel. The cases discussed above were evaluated against the US reaction to Israel’s regional behaviour; in terms of whether the Israeli behaviour served or hampered US interest in maintaining regional stability and whether or not the US opposed Israel when it acted in ways that the United States deemed undesirable. It was concluded that, as a general rule, Washington was ready to intervene to address any violation to the status quo in the Middle East system except when this violation was committed by its regional surrogate. Israel had contributed directly in destabilizing the Middle East system (pushing the system out of its equilibrium point) in several cases, four of which have been discussed above. These crises, in spite of their negative effect on regional stability, witnessed minimal US reaction.
America. It was a dream come true in a New World that was envisioned by artists, politicians, and monarchs alike. The ones who believed that anything could be achieved by God, the mind, and manpower. Even through opposition from governments, kingdoms, nobles, and naysayers, these brave individuals strived to establish a better life for themselves and their families, aimed to retain a secure future in the process, and wanted to worship God in their own way.
... Lessons have been learned over the years from preplanning, establishment of interagency agreements and simply cooperation between organizations. Obama has set the ground work nicely in working to establish international partnerships. In the emergency management world, establishing plans in preparation to manage a hurricane, tornado or disaster is essential, a town cannot run such an incident alone and outside resources and partnerships are needed and must be prearranged to assist in the mitigation. Fighting the war on terrorism is similar and knowing who is coming to help when the incident occurs is important, not knowing who is coming and not knowing who is willing to assist in the heat of the moment can be devastating. Therefore, future security strategies must maintain the international partnerships in order to maintain the safety and security of America
It has been an on-going battle that seems to lead merely to failure. The southwestern states in particular have been struggling with the illegal crossing of the American border by its counter parts to the south. When main stream media broadcasts television shows on a daily basis of hundreds if not thousands of illegal aliens crossing the border every day, it is hard not to believe we are fighting a losing battle. With the technology that America has available today, the majority of Americans ask how we continue to struggle with this conflict. A number of bills have been and are currently being introduced to the House of Republicans, Senate, and the President to take a stand on this issue as well as grant a period of asylum for those that are here illegally. A countless number of Americans believe this issue needs to be resolved. Nevertheless the majority of American people demand a more stringent policy on immigration, specifically the number of illegal aliens in the U.S. from Mexico. What those people fail to understand is the hardships, struggles, and poverty these individuals face if they were to stay in Mexico. The immigration policy needs a reform; the American people must understand why these individuals make the illegal journey across the border into El Norte.
It is a very daunting question that looms over many Americans. “What does our future hold?” is the frequently asked question. When people are faced with this question, there is a lot of uncertainty. Many people do not know how to answer. Despite what many might think, America 's future is well known across hundreds of nations all over the world. America 's future has actually been a question people have asked since the beginning of this great nation and has a very important meaning in the lives of many. There are many factors that will affect the United States future. These factors include culture and education, economy, resource management, politics, and protection of freedoms. In this paper, I will give each factor a grade in terms on future
Carson McCullers takes the reader on a journey into the lives of a family plagued by alcoholism in "A Domestic Dilemma". The realism of the story is astounding, as most people will often find themselves torn when facing difficult family decisions. The Meadows’ family is torn by both compassion and suffering, and Martin Meadows is faced with one of the most difficult decisions of his life. In A Domestic Dilemma, the author conveys the idea that individuals facing difficult decisions in marital relationships must act in the best interest of one’s self. The conflicts in the story surround Martin and Emily’s marital relationship. It is clear that their marriage is deteriorating because of Emily’s alcoholism. Emily often attempts to hide her drinking from her husband and when Martin inquires about his wife’s earlier drinking, she responds "Because I drink a couple of sherries in the afternoon you’re trying to make me out a drunkard." in a sharp, unforgiving tone.
The United States involvement in extracurricular activities has always bothered me. The ongoing battle of the United States engaging into foreign affairs has only put us further in debt. Not to mention the black hole that we dig for ourselves. We sent unbelievable amounts of money and arms to the Afghans in the late 1970’s which were eventually turned back on American Soldiers during Operation Enduring Freedom. We did the same thing in Iraq after the first Gulf War. We are now fighting the Hybrid threat that was once a moderate group that we backed. This small moderate organization is called ISIS. It’s arguable that we help create this organization when we picked up and left the people of Iraq after ten years of conflict. There was
