Dog Park Debate.
Should public dog parks be built in cities? There are many different opinions and views on the question and not everyone agrees, but I think public dog parks would be a good idea.
If you own a dog you would know that they have alot of energy. They love to play. Exercise is not only a playful activity for dogs but its very important to a dogs mental and physical health. According to the ASPCA, "Dogs that dont get exercise can act out by barking and destroying things at home." There is also a big sociallization asspect to this too. At a dog park a young pup can meet other dogs and learn to interact and play with others, but if a dog dosen't recieve the socialization when they meet another animal or person

Not just dogs would benefit from a dog park, everyone would. Studies have shown that dog parks raise property values in communities, and attract dog and animal owners when they are chosing a place to live.
To every pro there is also a con, so there are some down sides to having a public off-leash dog park.
Most cities rely on people respectcing the rules even though not all the rules are follwed, so if a dog attacks another dog or person in the park, the victim could rightfully sue the dogs owner and the city for not enforcing the rules/law of the public dog park. Traffic congestion will also increase near the park, and noise from the barking dogs and yelling owners can disturb nearby residents. This is also a very expensive prjoect just the fence alone would cost around 70,000 dollars!
All these cons could be solved and worked around. There could be a fee placed if you do not follow the laws of the dog park. You could also have the dog park in a location that is not near too many residential homes. The community could have fund raisers to earn the money required to build the dog park instead of taking the money from
P4: ‘The parks can be cruel to the animals they hold because they put a restriction the freedom they would normally have in the wild’ (para 5).
If there was a dog park, property values would most definitely go up. The community should try to make every resident happy where they live. Some cat owners don't feel dog owners should be able to get a dog park since they themselves are not asking for a place to bring their cats. Cats are more of indoor animals and they don't need as much attention and exercise as dogs. Cats don't need wide open spaces to play around in. People feel as though they are being treated unfairly due to the lack of yard space and areas for their pets to roam around
Dogfighting is a “sport” that pits two well trained dogs against each other in a fights until one dog cannot fight anymore. Dogs are often killed at these events, because some dogs are ruthless because their owners have trained them to kill. The fights last, on average, one to two hours, and can leave marks forever. Spectators are able to bet on which dog will win. Currently, dogfighting is a felony offense in all 50 states, and is a federal offense as well. Not only can the instigators of the fights be charged, but all spectators can be charged as well. Dogfighting was brought to the sports world in 2007, when star quarterback Michael Vick was found guilty of having a dogfighting organization and hanging 3 dogs for “not performing well in ‘testing’ sessions”. In 2001, Vick and 3 friends, Purnell Peace, Quanis Phillips, and Tony Taylor started an organization which they called, “Bad Newz Kennel”. Vick also started his NFL career that year, and played for the Atlanta Falcons. When he got convicted in 2007, Vick was sentenced to 21 months in prison and 2 months in home confinement. Dog fighting may injure the dogs forever. For example, Georgia, a pitbull involved in “Bad Newz Kennels”, had her jaw broken at one time during a fight and her tongue is still messed up. Her tail also zigzags, and she has no teeth, they were all pried out of her mouth. Animal Rights would help Georgia and dogs involved in fights all around the country, so they know that they are safe [ALDF]. There are approximately more than 100,00 people in the U.S. involved in dogfighting. That number needs to cut down if the world is going to be a better place for people and animals to grow up in. That is why Animal Rights should occur more heavily in the
Dogs should be trained to be around people and other pets at an early age. Training a dog to listen and obey is the most important factor (Marketwire). A dog can simply be bored and want to play aggressively. No matter the breed a dog can always be trained not to be violent (“CAUSES OF DOG”). An improperly trained dog can turn out to be mean and aggressive. Also allowing your dog to practice these behaviors will cause them to adapt to them. Exposing a dog to new things will help it become comfortable with them and recognize them. Dogs use their bark as an alarming system (Marketwire). Knowing when and why a dog is aggressive is a key factor for changing this
As the United States Supreme Court has deemed that the use of highly trained canines is Constitutional to assist law enforcement agencies, they are a major deterrent for violent criminals, as well as a deterrent to proactive police work to prevent crimes from occurring. Canines are a major crime-fighting tool to assist law enforcement.
Having a dog can be a great experience for people who enjoy their company. These animals are usually friendly and active; they are intelligent and can develop a strong relationship with their owners based in love and care. However, having dogs is a big responsibility for the person who owns it, because they are animals, so they cannot support themselves. Dogs need someone who can feed them, give them love, and someone who can make them exercise. Moreover, these animals need big spaces in order to run and develop their muscles, so the owner has to know that he needs to take a walk with the dog several times a day. Dog parks are a great place to take the dogs because it provides a space where they do not have to be with leash every time, while they can interact with other animals of their specie in a pet-friendly environment. Every city in the country should have at least one of these places, in order to help their inhabitants with their pets and because it is a good part of the life in community.
The difference between right and wrong is not always perfectly clear. A long-standing part of cultures across the world, zoological and animal parks have been around for hundreds of years. While in the past concerns and issues regarding the ethical problems zoos seem to impose were less prominent, in recent times the rise of animal rights activist groups and new generational values have influenced the way people view these parks. Critics believe that zoos are an unnatural habitat for animals and force them to live in captivity, having a negative impact on their health. Yet, there are still many remaining who fully support zoos, citing business and educational reasons. Some supporters even acknowledge the ethical problems zoos face, but choose
Thousands of zoos worldwide are visited by citizens yearly to admire and satisfy their curiosity of the beautiful wild animals that mother nature has to offer. Zoos have been around for hundreds of years and have become a known tradition for numerous school field trips and family outings. The ongoing debate between animal rights activists and zoo officials remains, should wild animals be taken from their natural habitats to live in city zoos for education and entertainment purposes?
Our current society is a busy one; busy enough that having the time to exercise is a difficult task for many. However, animals, especially dogs, can function as personal trainers: motivating you to go for a walk or run due to their crucial need to release energy. A dog owner who is “responsible for walking their pups… [is] less likely to be obese than dog owners who pass the duty off to someone else or those who don 't own dogs at all” (McCandless). With the inspiration from their pets, even the busiest person will be able to gain their recommended thirty minutes of exercise a day in order to stay healthy. A furry friend may carry thousands of bacteria and allergens, but the exposure of infants to these microbes “can actually influence children’s immune development while reducing the probability of certain allergic diseases” (Borreli). Adults also benefit from contact with the allergens carried on household animals through the reduction of the effects of pet allergies that comes with exposure. Although an individual may not have certain life-threatening diseases at the present time, owning a pet will help increase exercise and boost the immune system in order to prevent future health
Training your dog is the most important part of canine companionship. A happy dog is one who has structure and boundaries. Dogs are pack animals, and as such, they need guidance in the behavior that you expect from them. If you don't follow through in this leadership role, then the dog will naturally feel as if it is his place to do so. A dog that understands that you are the leader will naturally be easier to train.
When the dog is walking the owner is walking as well. Every time the dog is being played with the owner is getting some kind of exercise done. Exercising daily is really important especially now a day when the obesity rate is so high in this country. Even when one doesn’t want to take the dog out dogs can be pretty persistent and will have the owner playing with them in no time. Living an active lifestyle also means that one will be healthier as
You will realize that dog training basically builds a solid relationship between you and your dog. It establishes you as a pack leader. The time you spend together as a team, learning about each other, normally deepens your bond.
Owning a pet can have many physical and mental health benefits. Medical studies show having a pet result's in lower blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and triglyceride levels. Pets have a role in cardiovascular health from lowering blood pressure, and they encourage psychosocial stability in owners, which further reduces the risk of heart disease. In the hectic and fast-paced world we live in today, pets are actually saving our lives. Pets provide an excuse to be active, dogs live an active lifestyle, wanting to play and run around outside. By making us more active and improving our health, dogs often provide a good workout! Instead of sitting on the couch being lazy, dogs are eager to transfer their energy and enthusiasm to the owner benefiting both dog and owner in many ways. Studies show that dogs demonstrate trust and provide comfort to the sick or elderly thus helping people to live longer and to be more positive as they age. Animal owners over 75 years of age have f...
There are some people who think that a puppy automatically knows everything to do. For example they think that puppies know they shouldn't chew on shoes and furniture. But just as a child or toddler becomes bored and explores his surroundings, so puppies do the same. Young dogs have a seemingly inexhaustible supply of energy to run and play, and if not thoroughly exercised by playing appropriate games such as Fetch, they will become destructive inside the house. Another misconception related to being exercised is behavior. If a puppy is kept in a crate for eight hours a day and then let out only to go to the bathroom, then the puppy will have listening issues because the puppy has been confined and needs to run around and the owner refuses to oblige it. Also as young puppies, it is important to socialize them frequently with both multiple different animals and people. If not, the animal could act lovable to a family, but when a stranger comes into the yard, the animal could turn into a ferocious beast that could cause traumatic accidents to anyone. Dogs can be socialized simply by having friends come over to the house for a few minutes a day just to say hello. By taking a little time and energy and applying these simple rules, a new dog owner can have a wonderfully loving
Exercising helps in many different ways such as gaining muscular strength and ability. A person's desire is to lose weight and have a perfect toned figure, but it also helps ease a lot of other conditions as well. Exercising is considered to be a mood booster. It helps improve self esteem and will lower depression. It will make a person a lot happier, and will help bring a positive reaction in the body. Physical activity is very important for obesity. It is really important for obese children or adults to get some form of exercise in their lives. It can be very beneficial for them and can help prevent long term illnesses. People that exercise on a daily basis do it because it helps them feel more positive about themselves and they will be more energized, motivated and focused for the day. It gives people an excessive amount of happiness.
