This experiment was performed twelve times, on three subjects, over a period of 4-6 weeks. The first subject was a six-year-old boy named Gideon (results are shown in Figs.1-4). His initial blood pressure was 92/53 mmHg; this stayed consistent throughout the entire experiment. The first genre of music that was tested was rock music (Fall Out Boy: My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark). The first time the experiment was performed, his blood pressure was 98/55 mmHg, the second time it was 99/56 mmHg, the third time it was 99/55 mmHg, and the fourth time it was 98/56 mmHg. The second genre of music that was tested was country music (Carrie Underwood ft. Sons of Sylvia: What Can I Say?). During the first trial, his blood pressure was 91/53 mmHg, the second time it was 92/54 mmHg, the third time it was 91/52 mmHg, and the fourth time it was 92/53 mmHg.
The third genre was pop music (Kelly Clarkson: Alone). The first time, his blood pressure was 95/53 mmHg. It was 94/55 mmHg the second time, 98/57 mmHg the third time, and 96/56 mmHg the fourth time. The fourth genre was alternative music (Coldplay ft. Rihanna: Princess of China). The first blood pressure measure was 93/52 mmHg. The second reading was 90/52 mmHg, the third was 97/57 mmHg, and the fourth was 94/55 mmHg. The fifth genre was electronic music (Swedish House Mafia ft. John Martin: Save the World). The first blood pressure reading was 98/55 mmHg. The second was 99/56 mmHg, the third was 96/56 mmHg, and the fourth was 97/56 mmHg.
The sixth genre was R&B (Bruno Mars: Young Girls). The first and second readings were 96/54 mmHg. The third was 98/57 mmHg and the fourth was 97/56 mmHg. The seventh genre was Pop Rock (The Script: Moon Boots). The first reading was 98/55 mmHg, the ...

The genre of this album can be described as pop and rock. Yet the album has the musical styles of Alternative Pop/Rock, Punk Rock, and somewhat Indie/Underground. When I first heard this album I already had some knowledge about the songs, but I never took the time to notice how the music sounded. The introduction seems faster than the rest of the album and has a more upbeat sound to it. Although it is not completely rock because they do not seem to be rocking out like some of the other past rockers in the class. Many of the s...
Occasionally music is used as medicine. One scholar shows that music can lower blood pressure, speed up stroke recovery, help you fall asleep, and help relieve pain (Surprising Effects of Music). Many schools provide a challenging curriculum for their students. Music classes would give students a chance to relax. Research demonstrates that liste...
The purpose of this experiment is to determine the effect of increasing the number jumping jacks (from 0 to 30 to 60 to 90) executed by a 15 year old female on the heart rate (beats/minute or bpm) of the female. To test this 3 participants (15 year old females) were gathered and had their resting (0 jumping jacks) heart rates in bpm determined after 2 minutes of sitting down and refraining from movement. In this experiment, to determine the heart rate of the participants the arterial pulses of the radial artery were counted. Since the number of time the artery pulsates is equal to the number of times the heart beats it is considered the same. After that, each participant executed jumping jacks ranging in number from 30 to 60 to 90. After
As stated in an article by Magellan (1994), the multiple genres of Vertigo can be defined as follows:
Have you ever given much thought about what goes on in the brain when you listen to music? Almost every human being listens to some type of music from country music all the way to religious music. Thinking about it, does music help with anything, is it just something humans like spending their time with or does it harm us in any way or form? I will am going to tell you about what the brain releases when a person listens to music, how music helps people with Alzheimer’s, and other small things that music does to the brain.

All of the participants range age range was 18-32 . To have better results of this study there should of being a division of each age group. On the other hand, there should of being different categories of ethnicity , and due the majority population of the size being Latinos in San Diego State University – IV Campus , there wasn’t a difference in the results. Also, another limitation was an unequal in gender. ( 20 male, 43 female, 1 missing). Not using every single type of music categories ,may be a limitation, but instead the study was to focus in major music genres. Additionally, the length of the song might of been to short or to long . Future research could focus attempts to develop a more effective scales.
After a hard day at work and a difficult commute home, many people just want to settle down on their soft sofas and turn on a CD. As the music fills the room, they instantly begin to relax. Stress melts away as they are taken in by the beauty of the music. Sound familiar? Probably, since all of us at one time or another have used music as a medium for relaxation. But scientifically speaking, how exactly does music help us relax? That in itself is a question worth exploring, and scientists are really not sure how music relieves stress. However, they do know that our bodies will naturally attempt to synchronize with external sounds and rhythms. Using this as a guide, experts in relaxation music suggest that we feed our auditory senses with music between the tempos of 60 to 90 beats per minute, as this is the ideal heart rate for relaxation. However, music that is enjoyable to you is as i...

Not every person is going to have the same taste in music, but why is it that people find a certain genre more appealing than others? A person’s personality and individuality clearly has a large role Research indicates that there is a definite correlation between personality and music preferences (Rentfrow & Gosling p. 1236-1237, Chamorro-Premuzic & Furnham p. 180-183). Those that enthusiastically chose to involve music in their lives will be more open to whatever music findings they come across in their everyday lives. There are also individuals who can play one or more musical instrument(s) and would be considered music lovers. Most of them have started from a young age and as they grew older would spend huge amounts of...

Music dates back many centuries ago. Music was used for an array of things. In some cases, it was used for rituals, to pass messages, or even for celebrations. There are approximately five to six hundred genres of music currently in existent today. Most music would have been said to originate or birth from folk music in America and evolved overtime to form different genres of music. Music has a long history and connection to human beings and their behavior. Music can also affect someone’s behavior whether it be negatively or positively. There have been many studies and research on the effect of music towards human behavior. Specifically hip-hop and soundscape music seem to have the most interesting effects on human behavior. Moreover, to gain better understanding of how music effects human behavior knowing how the brain functions is also essential.
