Do you know what would happen if you have sex with your family members? Do you know how having sex with a family member affects the child? Incest is so dangerous. Incest affects the child but parents will never realize how much damage it does to the child. In some parts of the world, people see no problem with incest. Everyone has there own opinion on who they choose to have sex with. This is what happened to Henrietta Lacks and her family. The Lacks family kids had many medicinal intention because Henrietta and her husband's were first cousins. The questions that people have no clear understanding is whether incest should be legal? Incest comes with many disadvantages. Incest should be illegal because it affects the development of the child. For example, incest affects the child emotionally and mentally(Adults Survivors). For instance, in Europe and United Kingdom, consensual sex between siblings is a criminal offence in majority of their countries (Sokol,2012). If it is a criminal offence in some part of the world it should be in all parts of the world. Sex between family member should be prohibited. This should be an important law that should be set in all states because several girls are impregnated with a man who is one of their family members. It does not only affect the child but it also affect that teen as she continue to age. A story was told by a 16 year old teenager who explains what happen to her. This young lady was part of a family sex ring that she let continue happen until she was 15. At the age of 15, she got pregnant. Being pregnant was her way to escape. Knowing all the things that her family members did to her she decided to take her and her baby and move away. Being molested by her family members happened when she 4 years old (Testifying in the Alabama Incest…). Sexually intercouse should not happen between family
Cases of incestial rape by father's upon their daughters, where actually rarely reported (Brown, 131). Most mother's and daughters kept incidents like these secret from the public or rarely even confronted their husbands and fathers for fear of experiencing further harm. Not to mention that it was a hard crime to prove (Brown, 112). Incest has been against the law for a long time- so the father of a household could be jailed a short while for the crime, but shockingly, girls only needed to be older than ten years of age to give consent to sex (Brown, 60). Thus making it easy for defense attorneys to establish reasonable of doubt rape and making the father guilty of incest instead (Brown, 89).
One of the most controlled aspects of sexuality is the regulation of who can have sex with who. Most of these regulations are laws protecting people that cannot give consent, like minors and some people with disabilities, from being exploited by others. The age of consent is a highly debatable subject. In Elizabeth Cavalier and Elisabeth O. Burgess article Too Young to Consent? the authors point out that ‘the fifteen year gap between a 55- year old man and his 40- year old wife is less significant than the three year age difference between a 18- and 15- year old’ (Cavalier and Burgess 401). The minimal age in the United State is 16, but other states have the age at 18. The origins of these Unfortunately, like most aspects pertaining to sexuality,
Incest is not something that happens to “those people over there” the ones across town who don’t wash very often. It happens to all strata of society, at all economic levels, and in all ethnic groups.
Schulman blames legalization of homosexual marriage as the cause for the possible permission of incest. However, this is like saying that if marijuana were to be legalized, it will lead to the acceptance of cocaine. Even when homosexuals do achieve their legal rights, currently only given to heterosexual married couples; it will not give rise to the legalization of incestuous relationships and incestuous marriages. Legalizing gay marriage will not pose any threat to the structure of society.
There are people who have conditioned their minds to think that women should not be allowed to have abortions if they were not raped or a result of incest, which I strongly disagree with that type of thinking. However, it is the law of the land, it is a women’s right to choose and she has to live with the psychological effects of her choice. Contrary to common beliefs, abortion has been a hot topic 200 years prior to 1972 Roe vs Wade. According to an article by Brian Young, “Life before Roe”, “the first US law against abortion, adopted by Connecticut in 1821, criminalized the administration of poison or of any "destructive substance" to induce a miscarriage. In 1840, however, Maine became the first state to pass a law that expressly protected all babies.”
The most common pattern is that the older sibling becomes the abuser of the younger sibling, often against his or her will. In many cases, both parents were inaccessible. The fathers were deceased, or had abandoned their families after the birth of the child. The mothers were non-available because of drug addiction, alcoholism and/or mental illness. Further, families with non-divorced parents were characterized by parents engaged in extramarital affairs and exposing the children to a sexual climate. The absence of the father in chaotic families can lead to girls being abused by their brothers. In one study, 32 adolescent sibling offenders and 28 adolescent non-sibling offenders were compared (Royzman, Leeman, & Sabini, 2008)The sibling offender group reported significantly more marital discord (between parents), parental rejection, physical discipline, negative family atmosphere and general dissatisfaction with family relationships. Family factors related to sibling incest namely, parental rejection, abuse and marital conflicts.
Many people argue against the idea of sperm donation at all, suggesting that due to the number of children likely to be born from each donor’s sperm that it will increase the chance of unknown incest (Mroz). Although this could certainly be a reality as thing stand now, stricter regulation would stop this from becoming an issue. Just as there are laws that federally mandate that parents put their children in school, specifically for their betterment, we should also federally mandate that the use of a sperm donor must be noted on a child’s birth certificate. Just as with the existing regulations regarding schools, a child’s awareness that they were created using a sperm donor should be so overwhelmingly the right choice that it is law. Other beneficial programs could include mandatory counseling for potential sperm recipients to hel...
Family is not determined by a person's last name or blood relations. The traditional idea of a nuclear family, consisting of a husband and wife raising one or more children together, has evolved in recent years. In this modern society, not only is it common for single parents or unmarried couples to raise a family, but, gays and lesbians are also taking part of this profound trend that is re-defining what a family is as a whole. Imagine if a person's privilege or opportunity of becoming a parent was revoked; how would this impact their life? Even though homosexuals are steadily becoming more accepted and integrated into today's prevalent culture, a disunity is posed when it comes to establishing a family of their own through adoption. Homosexual couples should be granted the same rights to adopt children like heterosexual couples can. The freedom to adopt should be equal in all aspects because there are too many children in the foster care who need a loving home, it is narrow-minded to assume that heterosexuals make better parents than homosexuals, and it is prejudice to deny homosexuals the right to adopt children based on their sexuality.
Adoption is a very important part of the American lifestyle. The welfare of children needs to be put in front of homophobia. There are an estimated 500,000 children in foster care nation wide, and 100,000 of these children are awaiting adoption. In 2013, only one child of every six available for adoption was actually adopted. (Sanchez, 13) Statistics like these show the true importance of adoption. People seem to prefer to have their own children biologically, but adoption should be taken into consideration, even if natural conception is possible.
It is estimated that around one to nine million United States children have at least one homosexual parent. According to the 2000 census there were 594,000 same-sex partner houses holds with twenty-seven percent of them with children in that household (Linville, O’Neil, n.d.). While there is no federal law in the Unites States that strictly prohibits same-sex couple from adopting children over the years some states have made it difficult and impossible for some same-sex couples to adopt. Some states have made illegal to jointly adopt a child son only one parent may be the solo adopter of the child. Other states have made it so only married couples can adopt children and in their states gay are not allowed to get married. Other states such as Florida directly prohibited homosexuals and same-sex couples ...
Across the world societies are constantly trying to protect their people and improve quality of life. Every culture has societal norms and laws in place in order to uphold the social order. One social issue that affects every culture in the world is sexual violence. Sexual violence is a global problem affecting every city, state, and country in the world. This is a problem that needs to be explored in order to stop this vicious crime. While most people are aware that sexual violence exists there is still a lot to learn about this crime. Western society paints a picture of sexual predators being predominantly strange older males. The truth is sexual violence can be committed by anyone and
The effects of child abuse are multiple. The pain and trauma the abused child goes through is just a small part of how this cauldron of hidden depravity in our society affects all of us. Wrecked lives can be seen in persons of all ages and in all walks of life. Society as a whole is also effected by child abuse both in negative and positive ways. In this essay I will present some of the factor and results of this violent behavior on individuals as well as our culture.
More importantly, “60 percent of children who are sexually abused do not disclose and most are acquaintances but as many as 47 percent are family or extended family” (The Scope of, 2016). The prevalence of child sexual abuse is difficult to determine because it is often not reported; experts agree that the incidence is far greater than what is reported to authorities (Child Sexual Abuse, 2012). Startling statistics represent the depth of the issue. Globally, prevalence rates show that a range of 7-36% of women and 3-29% of men experience sexual abuse in childhood (The Scope of, 2016). “The U.S Department of Health and Human Services’ Children’s Bureau report child maltreatment 2010 found that 9.2% of victimized children were sexually assaulted” (Child Sexual Abuse,
When we are born, we are told what is normal and what is abnormal, normal is a family with husband and wife but abnormal is for example a family with two women or two men. Adoption for a heterosexual couple is not something that is very hard to do but when it is a homosexual couple, it is made hard because in some people eyes it is not right. What I think is that if a child can get two parents no matter the sex and they are loved unconditionally and are treated correctly then it is okay for a homosexual or heterosexual to adopt. “What is most important is love. A homosexual couple can give much love to a child, sometimes even more than a heterosexual couple. (Subulica)”
In recent years, same-sex marriage has become a more controversial topic on whether it’s right or wrong. People should not feel coerced to agree with something they believe is wrong; clearly, same-sex marriage is immoral and unnatural. Many complications come with same-sex marriages including financial pressures, social pressures, moral pressures, and health risks.
