In a society there are punishment for crimes some more extreme than others. In the scarlet letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Hester Prynne, a thought to be widow, is impregnated by a mystery man. Sins are crimes in this time era and consequences are harsh and being pregnant with someone beside your husband is a big sin. Hester Prynne is given mercy since her husband is declared dead by the town. Hester’s lover roams the town yet to have a face and it raises the question should he be punished? My answer would be yes for the reason of taking blame for what you have done.
