“Do Not Weep, Maiden, for War is Kind”, is a poem written by Stephen Crane. This poem tries to explain and inform the reader that war is not kind, even though the title says the opposite. When thinking about war the things that come to mind are normally: terrifying, death, cruel, unhuman, etc. The poem tries to tell the reader the opposite, and there are clues that help understand the real meaning of war. This poem is written in sarcasm and repetition. Imagery is seen throughout the whole poem. The title says one thing, but it means the opposite therefore, it is written in a sarcastic way. In the stanza, “Do not weep, babe, for war is kind”, is trying to console and explain to his lover or baby not to not cry because he gave up his life for theirs. It is telling them not to cry, that it is not that bad, instead of crying they should be happy. No matter if anyone tells someone not to cry after a death of a loved one, it will happen. In the last stanza, a mother is being informed her son has died in a battle field. It demonstrated how she is still humble because she is aware her son as died fighting for what he believed was right. But, it is ironic because the son had died, which means he will no longer suffer, but the mother’s suffering has only begun. It is always going to be hard for a mother to understand that a son has died.
Throughout, the whole story it is visibly seen how and what it is to be in war. The picture of war can easily be imagined. From war starting to seeing how it finishes. It is visibly imagined when the horse has dropped the man as it got scared and took off. The booming drums of regiment meaning they are ready to start war by lining up and getting their guns ready. The battel field where thousands of men lay wounded, can be seen. Lastly, when the speaker says, “raged at his breast, gulped, and died” describes how his death came to an
