Due to boundaries within the natural sciences and art, it can be said that the production of knowledge is limited when the methods are limited. This ‘production of knowledge’ is gained through experience, practice, and personal involvement. I agree that ethical judgments limit the methods available in the production of knowledge in the arts and natural sciences. Ethical judgments are placed by the audience/society observing, but in the end it is up to the artist/scientist whether or not they will let these judgments keep them from their work. With artists such as arina ro i and science research experiments such as the Tuskegee Syphilis experiment or stem cell and genetic research, one can evaluate the limitations in respect to the production of knowledge due to ethical limitations. “Art” is a very ambiguous term that one is able to create their own, personal definition for, but a definition most commonly used is “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power”. Art as a subject uses the ways of knowing, emotion and language in order to produce knowledge. The knowledge produced within art is the message the artist is trying to get to their audience through their artwork. The lack of a solid definition gives artists free range when expressing their emotions through art. Although many artists create work to express their own emotions, many artists also create work to generate awareness on a certain topic. Whether or not the methods they use to get this 006537-0012|3 awareness across are morally correct is a big question today. Another question to consider is whether or not... ... middle of paper ... ...o not e ist. In ilan, Italy Cattalan he hung lifelike dummies of children in trees in order to protest violence against children.2 Although the piece continues to cause uproar amongst the public, his message was understood. Although I do agree that ethical judgments limit the methods available in the production of knowledge in the arts, there are great artists who ignore the opinion of the majority and only stick to their own thoughts and desires when creating a work of art. Because art involves emotion, it can be said that the art pieces are intended to represent the artists’ own iews and is not intended for uch else. lthough the ases of the pieces are the artists’ iews, they are working to get a message across and produce awareness within their audience and it is important to consider the consequences of his/her work. “The frontiers of medicine exist in research.”
It is art fulfilling its role in society. It is art that brings the moral issues. It is art that makes us human.
If I were to ask you what is art, and how can one find it? What would you say? Well if it were me being asked those question, I would simply say that art to me is a form of a picture; a visual painting or model of some design and it could be found all among us. You may define it differently only because art could be defined in many ways. I could simply say that art to me is a form of a picture; a visual painting or model of some design. Well according to an article written by Shelley Esaak, an art history expert she mentioned that art has a way of stimulating different parts of our brains to make us laugh or incite us to riot, with a whole gamut of emotions in between. She also mentioned that art gives us a way to be creative and express ourselves. [1]
People can have many different opinions depending on a topic, but what is truly difficult is getting a complete level of understanding from every opinion, or understanding the point of view of each opinion. Even accepting the points of view can be difficult for some people, who believe that their opinions are right. Luckily, people can learn about the other person’s frame of reference, and at the very least understand the topic or the person a little better. This particular topic is art, which is known for its multiple possible perceptions or its many different messages that it can send a person or group of people. In this way, people can learn more about the thought processes and feelings of others. Unfortunately, with differing opinions,
According to Webster’s Dictionary, art is “human expression of objects by painting, etc” (10). The words “human experience” adds meaning to art. Artists reveal their inner thoughts and feelings through their work. When we study a painting by Salvador Dali, the strange objects and the surrealist background portrays the eccentricity of the painter. Some ideas cannot be explained verbally. They can only be shown via a medium. We can get across what is in our minds or our hearts by a stroke of a brush, a drop of paint, a row of words, or something else. But to express ourselves, we do not need to limit what we call art.
Within the contemporary art world, the performance is considered as a new medium that display acts within a fine arts context. The performance which has its origins in movements of the 1960s including minimalism, modernism and onwards utilises various subject matter provided by the artist to convey artistic messages, critiquing the world around them. These messages are shaped by the artists varying degree of curiosity as well as positive and negative experiences, demonstrated throughout the artist’s performance. The varying level of curiosity alongside these experiences are factors that contribute to the completion of the performance. These factors can influence artists leading to unconventional depictions to prove the artists message.
This artwork not only highlights the values of the time period it was painted, but it also provides insight as to how art truly defines and stretches the boundaries on limitations that society has placed on the human mind, leaving no interpretation in a world full of mysteries, paradoxes,
Although in analyzing specific artwork it is likely that there is a factor to take into consideration such as the historical/religious setting of when the artwork was made, cultural geography and societal movements during that time. Art is a form of communication. As with each type of communication, artists may use it to raise certain emotions, political problems and or change during that era. It can even portray aspects of society in a good or bad light. Religious art uses religion to inspire and push an idea in order to illustrate it in a real form.

Art is an expression of feelings, body language, and culture produced by humans. Art can be expressed in many different ways, and in many different forms from time to time! You’d be amazed with the different types of skilled work artists come up with each day and it’s all just someone, one person expressing how they feel or what they believe. One form of art that I find very interesting is Fauvism.
Ethical judgements in that case acted as a limitation for artist work, but in that case I think that groundlessly, while the artist aim was to show a problem neglected by people, and about the historical issue which remains silent on the lessons of history quite stunning sculpture, perhaps with a heavy message may seem unethical to some people but in my opinion, accurately reflects the historical events that should not be forgotten. We develop our views using different ways of knowing, sense perception, reasoning and emotions that help us to determine whether something is moral or not, right or wrong. It of course differs among people, while we all perceive the world in various ways. Ethical judgements limit the methods available in the production of knowledge in both the arts and the natural sciences. But these judgements are definitely needed to keep some safety while exploring the world.
Art is defined as the production to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance. So to what extend do critics have the power to determine what category do artworks describe. The emotion that artist present to one another can have many different forms. Take the poem “Howl” by Allen Ginsberg this art work has been criticized by many in being a very obscene piece of art, this can be seen in the way the poet describes events. However, the way he builds his poem is brilliant.
Art can be defined in many ways by an individual. One can say that any creative output by a person is considered art. Others contend that art must conform to a societal standard and the basis of the creation should be understood by most intellectual people. For example, some contend that computer-generated images, such as fractals, are not art due to the large role played by a computer. E.O. Wilson states “the exclusive role of the arts is to intensify aesthetic and emotional response. Works of art communicate feeling directly from mind to mind, with no intent to explain why the impact occurs” (218). A simple definition may be that art is the physical expression of the ideals formed by the mind.
Art uses beauty, emotion, and drama to influence the audience into expressing their feelings. R.G. Collingwood argues that art is not an object that you can fabricate, it is the expression of emotion in your mind. Giving an expression individualizes it, which rather than describing the emotion in words, the expression is a feature of the statement itself. This means that art shouldn’t have any limits because expression wouldn’t be able to differentiate itself from others. Art is expression, it is important because we need to able to recognize what our feelings are therapeutic. Expression is needed to make art because it gives it a unique sense to it and gives people different emotions based on that expression. Collingwood is right to think that art is expression.
The belief that artists should be given absolute freedom in creating their art is an important issue for several reasons. Firstly, if art is censored, then the intended message of the art is corrupted or lost. Self-censorship, on the audience’s part is a much better alternative as current systems of censorship are flawed. This essay will discuss reasons for advocating artistic freedom.
Art is limited in a very large number of ways by the ethical judgements we make, but it is also often brought into existence as a result of our morals and emotions. These judgements seem to handicap the production of knowledge of and through art, but they are also vital to it. This is a sign that abandoning our morals would be difficult, but impractical for the arts. For science, however, abandoning these morals to avoid the obstacle of ethical judgements would allow us to understand much more than we do today, and even more than we did hundreds of years ago; however, these judgements also keep our developments in check. They may prevent some good, but they definitely prevent irreversible harm as well. It is clear that ethics has many drawbacks, but it is a necessary element of our lives.
