Divergent is a story of dynamic relationships changing drastically as the main character Tris develops as a person. From the first page to the last, Tris’s relationships with the people around her including her family, Al, Christina, and Four dramatically transform as the story progresses. Tris is highly dependent on her family for nurturing and care. However, nearing the end Tris finds her own personality and no longer relies on her parents.
Tris and her family are an inseparable force when the story opens. Until the choosing ceremony, Tris cannot imagine leaving her family and moving on. Though Tris feels she isn't completely an Abnegation citizen, shown by her lack of selfless, she is loyal to her mother and father and can't betray them by moving to a new faction.
When the choosing ceremony arrives, the world Tris knew is flipped upside down as the ties with her family are shattered. Caleb, her selfless brother is described to be an honest, selfless person who is Tris's closest friend in life makes the decision to transfer to the Erudite faction. The Erudite faction who stands for learning and intelligence is Abnegation's main rival. Caleb’s transfer devastates Tris as feels betrayed by her brother, overwhelmed with the thought that Caleb had been deceiving her. Tris's mother is introduced as a cold person, one who doesn't seemingly pay much attention to her children Tris and Caleb. She completes her simple tasks such as shopping and cutting hair, but beyond that she isn't involved with their lives. Maybe her personality or just Abnegation tradition in which parents are not concerned greatly with the well-being of children. As the story progresses, the relationship with her mother strengthens into a tight bond between the t...

...explains he’s just as afraid of relationships as Tris is. The relationship has its ups and downs, leaving Tris with the feeling that Four hates her. The first exercise the Dauntless initiates complete are knife throwing. Al ends up being unable to hit the target, and Tris, being an Abnegation member, takes the punishment for him. She allows Four to throw knives at the board above her and with the final knife Four hits her in the ear, making it bleed slightly. Derailing their relationship and leaving Tris angered that Four purposely hurt her.
Relationships have their ups as one make new friends, and downs when one loses old friends while developing a personality of their own. The relationships shown in Divergent are much more than just ups and downs of life. Four, Al and Tris’s family all play an important role in her life, supporting Tris as her personality grows.
I predict that Tris will discover that Four is also a Divergent, and they will start a rebellion together at the end of this book and beginning of the next one. I think that Four is a Divergent because of how he knew quite quickly that Tris was a Divergent. He didn’t have to scrutinize her he discovered it with ease. If he is not Divergent, then he must have known someone who was. “ ‘What?’ I demand. ‘You’re Divergent,’ he replies. I stare at him, fear pulsing through me like
However, instead of allowing the corruption and grief of losing a significant figure in her life completely consume her, Leah embraces a new culture and turns to another male figure, her husband Anatole, for guidance. With new surrounding influences, Leah encounters various forms of separation, whether it be from her birthplace, father, or husband, and accepts all the drawbacks and loses that come along with the isolation. At the same time, Leah also challenges herself to overcome the loss and succumb to the loneliness that could potentially bring her closer to a new aspect of life never explored before. Through it all, Leah turns her experiences with exile into bittersweet memories sprinkled across the time span of her life for each rift allowed her to obtain a sense of self identity during periods of time free of human contact or, in Leah’s case,
The story follows three girls- Jeanette, the oldest in the pack, Claudette, the narrator and middle child, and the youngest, Mirabella- as they go through the various stages of becoming civilized people. Each girl is an example of the different reactions to being placed in an unfamiliar environment and retrained. Jeanette adapts quickly, becoming the first in the pack to assimilate to the new way of life. She accepts her education and rejects her previous life with few relapses. Claudette understands the education being presented to her but resists adapting fully, her hatred turning into apathy as she quietly accepts her fate. Mirabella either does not comprehend her education, or fully ignores it, as she continually breaks the rules and boundaries set around her, eventually resulting in her removal from the school.

First of all, in order to have an interesting story you will have to have a tone of voice that contributes equally to the meaning of the story. According to Divergent, “I want to be brave, and selfless, and smart, and kind, and honest.” This quotes supports the idea that Tris can in fact fit into all factions and therefore is divergent. Tris, faces with this conflict of being divergent since it is looked down upon. But, even though she faces this serious situation, she has a strong and powerful mindset throughout the journey.
Presumably, complications start to revolve around the protagonist family. Additionally, readers learn that Rachel mother Nella left her biological father for another man who is abusive and arrogant. After,
But for the protagonists in these stories, these forces are somewhat out of sync. Failures of individuation, and the completion of transformational journeys which lead to madness, resignation, and death point to an inability of the characters to reconcile their wants and needs with their actual lives.
In the novel Secret Daughter, it is continuously proven that blood relations are not the only element that binds a family. The main character, Asha starts off as an immature and inconsiderate girl. After making the discovery of her biological parents, Asha feels extremely upset and disconcerted. Paradoxically, however, Asha later realizes the true meaning of family and develops into a mature and understanding individual. In Shilpi Somaya Gowda's Secret Daughter, Asha changes from an immature and inconsiderate character to a mature and understanding one, because of a major turning point, which forces her to be extremely upset and disconcerted.
Eventually, David and Carolyn are able to relinquish the triadic relationship with their daughter, Claudia. This restructuring in the family essentially alleviates many of the problems that were the cause for the family to seek therapy in the first place. Claudia is able to break free from the well worn routines of arguing with her mother and her unwanted behaviors diminish. They build a lot of support from their surrounding friends and even though they thought that they could not depend on their parents they quickly realized that they would need them as well as outside sources such as the local police and school peers who were unknowingly involved. Aria’s father is a college professor, who knows of Aria’s slip up, as well as knows of the new young teacher. Aria mother works
Showcasing a strong tie between plot and character background strengthened the foundation of each character and made them more relatable to the reader. The portrayal of the families and their dysfunction shows that not every family is a picture-perfect example of what a typical family is but its unrealistic to believe that every family doesn’t have their own troubles and rocky patches but it’s the family’s dysfunction that in all builds the characters to who they are and what moved the plot forward in many ways and can be related to ones own
... believe that Divergent shows students the deeper meaning of symbols in a book the student actually likes to read. In contrast, numerous people want to discontinue the book because it is a movie, and it contains religious messages; these two things can be taught around by creative teaching in District 200. The students’ education should be the first priority, and one can believe this book will further the students’ knowledge.
The most remarkable thing about literature is its effect on society and the individual. Every once in a while a book is published that truly relates to those who read it. Divergent just so happens to be one of those books. Divergent is an extreme take on the differences of what virtues humans value to form the perfect society. The book’s contents are almost philosophical, acting as sustenance for the heart and soul, meanwhile highlighting the many problems we face in modern society through quotes in a subliminal fashion that coincide wonderfully with the story. One such quote can be found on pg.441 and it reads ‘’ Human beings as a whole cannot be good for long before the bad creeps back in and poisons us again.’’ It almost breaks the 3rd wall. Human beings were born with both flaws and goodness. We are a double edged sword with extreme potential on both points. Deep down there is something dark in everybody. There are those who can control it and those who are weak and succumb to it.
