Introduction In ABC’s TV series Pretty Little Liars the very first episodes basically gives of an inside of how the show is going to be as well give you some background information of how the drama pulls the intense plot together. In the first episode we find out that there are five teenage girls that grew up together and of them ends up missing. After years of looking for the missing teenager she turns up buried in her backyard. They build a lot of support from their surrounding friends and even though they thought that they could not depend on their parents they quickly realized that they would need them as well as outside sources such as the local police and school peers who were unknowingly involved. All of the girls stay as positive as they can as well demonstrating brave characteristics and acts. When “A” puts the girls in tough situations they immediately send out “S.O.S” text to one another and they quickly compose a plan that makes sure that everyone secrets are kept and they are being put in safe situations. Every character, even the parents, have encountered a taste of what “A” is capable of and they are aware of how dangerous “A” can be because the are constantly asking questions, inferring when the girls are acting any type of way, and ironically each parent play major roles in the community. Spencer mom is a well known lawyer, so “A” makes sure to direct Spencer into situations where she gets into trouble with the police. Emily father is away and serving the country. Emily’s mother is just a teenager when she had Emily. She did not have the money or resources to take care of her, so she had to let Emily live with her grandparents for a couple of years before she could get Emily back. When Emily was two, her mother finally got her custody of her, but Emily is not the little girl she remembered. When the mother first had Emily, she described her as a beautiful baby (302), but it changed when Emily became sickly and got scars from chicken pox. The mother said, “When she finally came, I hardly knew her, walking quick and nervous like her father, looking like her father, thin, and dressed in a shoddy red that yellowed her skin and glared at the pockmarks. All the baby loveliness gone. (302)” Nevertheless, the mother is never there for Emily as she grew up. Emily tried to show her mother in different ways that she needed her, but she never seemed to catch the hint. For example, when Emily was two her mother sent her to a nursery school. Pretty Little Liars, an ambitious show- for the network that once was solely dedicated to Christian shows such as 700 club- has quickly redefined the way that a show can measure its success. Emily was the eldest child in the family. When she was born, her mother was only nineteen years old. Of course, her mother had no experience in raising children and anyone around to teach her how to be a mother. Moreover, when Emily was a one year old, her father abandoned them. Therefore, Emily’s mother had to leave her with a neighbor so she could go to work and earn money for the daughter. Despite the fact that Emily was very small and did not realize all the things, it was the first turning point in the relationship of Emily and her mother.
Wes is an orphan from Haiti, and his mother committed suicide. Michaela’s engaged, but not sure if she wants to get married since she has pressure to sign a prenup and the possibility of her fiancé having sexual intercourse with Connor. Asher is trying to get away from his father’s shadow who is a judge. Laurel is trying to make a name for herself while not having the support of her family. Connor is trying to find himself and his sexual orientation. My favorite student is Asher because he is goofy and clueless; he is all about enjoying the company of others. One thing I like in Annalise is her work ethic; she works and making sure the clients obtain the least amount of punishment as possible, even though, her antics might not be legal.

Miss Emily is afraid to confront reality. She seems to live in a sort of fantasy world where death has no meaning. Emily refuses to accept or recognize the death of her father, and the fact that the world around her is changing.
“Pretty Little Liars”, aired on ABC Family, is a recent television series that I have followed continuously over the past 2 years. This edge of your seat mystery follows the lives of four young ladies searching to find the murderer of their recently deceased best friend, all the while being the prime suspects themselves, and facing threats from an anonymous figure. A myth, in my point of view, is a tale which is created by the adventures that shape a hero. In this series, all four ladies are heros through their journey.
At the beginning of the story Emily is just an ordinary little girl, but as the story continues she begins to feel herself changing. By the end of the story, Emily has gained self-consciousness and thinks of herself not as an ordinary little girl but as “Emily”.
Emily father was highly favored in the town. Faulkner writes in his Short Story Criticism, “The Griersons have always been “high and mighty,” somehow above “the gross, teeming world….” Emily’s father was well respected and occasionally loaned the town money. That made her a wealthy child and she basically had everything a child wanted. Emily’s father was a very serious man and Emily’s mind was violated by her father’s strict mentality. After Emily’s father being the only man in her life, he dies and she find it hard to let go of him. Because of her father, she possessed a stubborn outlook on life and how thing should be. She practically secluded her self from society for the remainder of her life.
Emily’s upbringing is plagued with difficulties. She is the first-born of a young mother and the eldest of five brothers and sisters. As a baby, she is constantly left at the care of others while her mother had to work after her father abandons them. Additionally, she is often sick, triggering a series of events that have emotionally affected her life. She definitely experiences a “stressful growth” (Frye 288).
Miss Emily’s refusal to change all started when her father had passed away and when asked about it she was in denial and “she told them her father was not dead.” She didn’t want to come to the realization that the only person in her life that loved her and protected her was gone. The fact that he was so controlling of her life and how she lived made Miss Emily afraid of what was going to happen next. She wasn’t used to making her own life choices.
Throughout the movie as a whole Emily, is trying to make her family normal. It is not until the conclusion that she realizes a much greater message than wanting her family to be normal. For example when she confesses she is the queen freak; she is trying to be herself and that her family will never be normal. The moral of the story is that family is family and not everyone may be normal and we should embrace the differences.
