In the 1700’s when the Constitution was created, a structured government could finally form. The purpose of government is to protect and provide for the citizens of the United States. The Founding Fathers envisioned a “more perfect union” and in order to form it, the Constitution worked to “establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.” The Preamble outlines the basic ideals articulated throughout the Constitution, which were created to benefit the citizens of the United States. It is our duty as United States citizens to abide by the laws created by our government in order to form the “more perfect union” the Founding …show more content…
If citizens have issues with a law, a class action suit should be filed and handled in the courts, which were also developed through the Constitution. The 1st Amendment in the Bill of Rights gives citizens freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of assembly. In today’s society, the peaceful resistance that exists is still a form of disobeying the law. No matter whether the resistance is peaceful or in the form of a riot, resistance is resistance and the Founding Fathers wanted the citizens of the United States to follow the …show more content…
If many people disagree with government decisions, the citizens should respectfully take their issue to the courts to handle the situation if they feel that their civil rights/civil liberties are being taken away, rather than disrespect the law. In today’s society, we are constitutionally developed enough to handle civil rights issues, and it is more appropriate to do it in a respectful manner rather than disobey the law. In a free society, peaceful resistance does not benefit us because right now we have the freedom to make decisions and obtain power and resources at their own manner. If peaceful resistance occurs, and laws keep getting broken (even in a peaceful manner), the government will have to step in and create more restrictions or create stricter
During and after the turmoil of the American Revolution, the people of America, both the rich and the poor, the powerful and the meek, strove to create a new system of government that would guide them during their unsure beginning. This first structure was called the Articles of Confederation, but it was ineffective, restricted, and weak. It was decided to create a new structure to guide the country. However, before a new constitution could be agreed upon, many aspects of life in America would have to be considered. The foremost apprehensions many Americans had concerning this new federal system included fear of the government limiting or endangering their inalienable rights, concern that the government’s power would be unbalanced, both within
The year of 1776 was a time of revolution, independence, and patriotism. American colonists had severed their umbilical cord to the Mother Country and declared themselves “Free and Independent States”.1 The chains of monarchy had been thrown off and a new government was formed. Shying away from a totalitarian government, the Second Continental Congress drafted a document called the Articles of Confederation which established a loose union of the states. It was an attempt at self-government that ended in failure. The Articles of Confederation had many defects which included a weak central government that lacked the power to tax, regulate trade, required equal representation and a unanimous vote to amend the Articles, and had only a legislative branch. As a result the United States lacked respect from foreign countries. These flaws were so severe that a new government had to be drafted and as a result the Constitution was born. This document remedied the weak points of the federal government and created one that was strong and fair, yet still governed by the people.
After the American Revolution, America had earned it’s freedom from Britain. In order to govern this new country the Articles of Confederation was created. This document was flawed by the colonists fear of putting too much power into a central government. Knowing the document needed to be fixed a constitutional convention was called. The document created at this convention has been our constitution ever since. But even the Constitution was meet with criticism. One major concern when writing the constitution was how to protect the citizens rights. The Constitution did this through the preamble, the legislative process, the limit of presidential terms, the judicial branch, and the bill of rights.
The United States Constitution is a national government that consist of citizen’s basic rights and fundamental laws. This document was signed on September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia by the majority of representatives. Today, the United States Constitution’s purpose is to supply a strong central government. However, before the United States Constitution was developed, many citizens did not support the constitution due to the fact that they found it contradicting and detached from the original goals of the Declaration of Independence. These citizens were known as anti-federalists. Fortunately, George Washington was a supporter of the constitution and had an enormous impact in the public support of the constitution. With a few adjustments, some
In 1789, the Confederation of the United States, faced with the very real threat of dissolution, found a renewed future with the ratification of the Constitution of the United States. This document created a structure upon which the citizens could build a future free of the unwanted pitfalls and hazards of tyrannies, dictatorship, or monarchies, while securing the best possible prospects for a good life. However, before the establishment of the new United States government, there was a period of dissent over the need for a strong centralized government. Furthermore, there was some belief that the new constitution failed to provide adequate protection for small businessmen and farmers and even less clear protection for fundamental human rights.
A constitution is the system of fundamental principles according to which a nation is governed. Our founding fathers created the US Constitution to set specific standards for our country. We must ask ourselves why our founding fathers created the Constitution in the first place. America revolted against the British due to their monarchy form of government. After the American Revolution, each of the original 13 colonies operated under its own rules of government. Most states were against any form of centralized rule from the government. They feared that what happened in England would happen again. They decided to write the Articles of Confederation, which was ratified in 1781. It was not effective and it led to many problems. The central government could not regulate commerce between states, deal with foreign governments or settle disputes. The country was falling apart at its seams. The central government could not provide assistance to the state because there wasn’t a central army. When they realized that the Articles of Confederation was not up to par, they held a convention, known as the Constitutional Convention of 1787. As a result of t...
The United States Constitution is a document created by our founding fathers to give people rights and the government responsibilities. The laws and regulations in this document must be follow and abide by every single person that lives in this country, and the government has the obligation to enforce it. Unfortunately, because of the time in which it was written and the language that it was used many amendments and clauses are left for interpretation creating controversy as to the meaning of it. The biggest challenge is to keep this document, which was written hundreds of years ago, current to this day and age. It’s important to remember that back when the constitution was written the population was significantly
For a document written in a mere one hundred and sixteen days, it is quite amazing that the United States Constitution still plays an integral role in the government. However, this document, like many important governing papers, has come with controversies and arguments since its establishment as a set of principles with which to govern states. The Constitution of the United States, created in 1787, arose from a need of a new document after the Articles of Confederation that could assert more control over the states. A product of the Constitutional convention, the Constitution laid out the framework for a popular government with checks and balances as well as a separation of powers. Since the Constitution is a relatively short document given
The Preamble's first-mentioned purpose is, "to form a more perfect Union." A more perfect union was simply a better and stronger one than had existed before the Constitution. Madison stated in The Federalist No. 41 that "the powers proposed to be lodged in the new federal government, are as little formidable to those reserved to the individual states as they are indispensably necessary to accomplish the purposes of the union." His meaning is clear that the states of the Union hold the majority of power, but they need to work together with that power to keep and grow the United States, which will “form a more perfect Union.” The legislative branch is a part of our government that is used to help with this clause. Laws that protect and help our country grow, both domestically, and on an international level help to make us a better, stronger, and “more perfect union.”
Peaceful resistance itself does not affect a free society. A people-group can protest any number of laws: voting rights, taxes, and the legality of murder. A majority of society must determine what is best for itself. If the principles of a resistance aligns with the ideals of the society, the pursuit of betterment positively impacts that
The constitution provides its citizens with many benefits which include a stable foundation for government, the division of powers, limitations on the government, individual rights, and the idea of popular sovereignty. The foundation of our government's was meant to provide a stable infrastructure on which the governments and people could build upon. If needed, governments that overstepped its boundaries could be absolved by the people. The founding fathers knew that government needed boundaries and limits on its power. To build the government that the founding fathers dreamed of, two safeguards were needed. First, they divided the government's power into three separate branches. This allowed division without obstructing the government. While each branch retained as some independence, the founding fathers also included checks and b...
The use of civil disobedience is a respectable way of protesting a governments rule. When someone believes that they are being forced into following unjust laws they should stand up for what they believe in no matter the consequences because it is not just one individual they are protesting for they are protesting for the well-being of a nation. Thoreau says ?to resist, the government, when its tyranny or its inefficiency are great and unendurable.? People should only let wrong and right be governed by what they believe not the people of the majority. The public should always stand for what is right, stand when they think a government is wrong, and trust in their moral beliefs.
When the United States of America’s government was first created there were many arguments about the jobs it would have and how much power it would possess. The first document that set the foundation for the national government was the Articles of Confederation. However, it had many weaknesses and denied the government the power to levy taxes and regulate commerce. In addition to denying the national government essential powers, it did not provide for a judiciary branch. Many of the political leaders realized that the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation were issues that needed to be addressed and resolved. As the leaders began to revise the Articles of Confederation, a better solution began to take shape: the Constitution. However,

Trojan Barbie is perhaps one of the most interestingly structured and interpreted plays that I have ever. There can be many opinions on the theme of the play, as well as it is more concrete elements such as the protagonist or main character. A strong argument could be given for almost any of the women in the play though after considering the possibilities, in my opinion I believe Lotte to be the protagonist. For our purposes, we will define protagonist as “the main character in a drama, novel, or story, around whom the action centers or a person who plays a leading or active part,” (yourdictionary.com).
