Disney And Heracles Comparison Essay

In Greek mythologies Heracles and Disney’s Hercules there are many differences that can be spotted. A few of which I will be discussing are when he is a Demi-God, meeting Meg, and when he does his twelve labors. There are also similarities between the two and I will discuss two of which discusses his strength and how he was a Demi-God in both forms of Heracles. Although Greece’s Heracles and Disney’s Hercules have differences, they also have similarities.

When Hercules was born in the Disney version he was born among the Greek Gods on Mnt. Olympus as a full God, and when compared to the Greek Myth of Heracles that is very incorrect. In the Greek myth, Heracles was born a Demi-God not among the Gods, but among his mother Alcmene. In the Disney version, Hera was Hercules’s mother, but in the myth Heracles’s mother was a product of Zeus going down from Mnt. Olympus and finding a female to seduce and that just so happened to be Alcmene. Although Hercules was born a full god in the Disney

version Hades, Zeus’s brother, has his two minions Pain and Panic use a magic potion to make Hercules mortal to kill him, but didn’t work because he drink every drop.
Now Hercules is grown up as a Demi-God and finds out that Zeus is his real father in the Disney version. While out training with Phil (Hercules’s instructor to become a true hero), they come across Nessus (a man half horse), and a beautiful women named Meg. Hercules felt that Meg was in danger so he beats Nessus and scares him away. In the myth Heracles saves the city Thebes so as appreciation the king of Thebes (father of Meg), gives Heracles his daughters hand in marriage.
During the Greek myth, Heracles is married to Meg and has two children, but ends up killing them while being very angry. After awakening from his madness and sees his family all dead and their blood on his hands, he realizes that it is his fault and asks for twelve labors for him finish to become an honorable man again. After he finished all twelve labors he ends up remarried and seems to have regained honor and happiness. In the Disney version Hercules only does the twelve labors to make himself a true hero so he can join his father Zeus on Mnt. Olympus again. At the end he decides to stay with Meg down below Mnt. Olympus and stay a Demi-God.
The two similarities I have chosen to discuss are his strength in both Hercules and Heracles and how he was a Demi-God at some point in each myth.

With his strength in the Disney version he was an outcast. Everybody saw Hercules as a freak because he was stronger than everyone which scared them, but in the myth his strength was very helpful and beneficial because it brought him to be a part of the Argonauts with Jason and every saw him as a great person. With Hercules being a Demi-God in the Disney and Greek myth it helps him when he does his labors and helps him when he is saving people.

Although Greece’s Heracles and Disney’s Hercules have differences, they also have similarities. After reading the Greek myth and watching the Disney movie I can see what they changed and what they kept the same. Comparing the two you see that Hercules and Heracles have differences, but within the differences there are similarities. Just like the similarities have differences within each

other.
