Denying Rights of Creeps Do universities have the right to deny admission to students based on their criminal or moral history? This was the dilemma in the case of a certain David Cash, a student at UC Berkeley who witnessed his best-friend rape and murder a seven year old girl and did not report the crime to authorities. A great example that provides input to this dilemma can be found through Dawn MacKeen’s essay, “Creeps on Campus”, which tells about Cash’s struggle to attend school and MacKeen’s own personal standpoint on the rights universities should have. It can be argued by some of Cash’s critics that although he broke no law, Cash’s mere lack of moral responsibility during the tragedy that occurred was enough to prevent him from attending UC Berkeley. This is conveyed through a quote from the essay, “Creeps on Campus” as MacKeen states, “David Cash broke no law, except the moral law that commands us to help others.” (Paragraph 3, Line 1) This quote provides leverage to the fact that although Cash demonstrated a lack of morality in his past, he still possesses every right given to him by the constitution to attend a university, on account that he legally broke no law. This same concept is echoed through a quote in the essay from one of Cash’s most peculiar critics, Najee Ali, a former crip gang member, ex-convict and college student. Ali sees Cash as unfit for attending a university based on his perceived lack of morality and remorse pertaining to the tragedy that took place. In his most recent album, Kanye West raps, “Now if I fuck this model/ And she just bleached her asshole/ And I get bleach on my T-shirt/ I 'mma feel like an asshole.” He suggests that it is the girl’s fault for getting bleach on his tee shirt, which she only did to make herself more sexually appealing. This misogyny in hip-hop culture is recognized to bring about problems. For instance, the women around these rappers believe they can only do well in life if they submit themselves to the men and allow themselves to be cared for in exchange for physical pleasure. In her essay, “From Fly-Girls to Bitches and Hoes”, Joan Morgan argues that the same rap music that dehumanizes women can be a powerful platform for gender equality if implemented correctly.
In the article “College is Not a Commodity. Stop treating it like one,” Hunter Rawlings explains how people today believe that college is a commodity, but he argues that it’s the student’s efforts; which gives value to their education. Rawlings states that in recent years college has been looked at in economic terms, lowering its worth to something people must have instead of earn. As a professor Rawlings has learned that the quality of education has nothing to do with the school or the curriculum, but rather the student’s efforts and work ethic. Shorris wanted to explore on poverty in America and write a book based on opinions on what keeps people poor. Therefore, as results of varied conversations with special people in prison, Shorris came to support the prisoner, Viniece Walker’s, argument that destitute students are those most in need of a liberal education. Viniece introduced Shorris to the thought of the “moral life of downtown”, meaning to expose them to museums, lectures, etc. (Page 2), which he understood as the need for reflection for the poor. This emphasizes the very fact that in order for the poor to escape from their “surround of force” (Page 1) they must undergo a transformation rooted in reflection and self-realization. Shorris believes that “the surround of force is what keeps the poor from being political and the absence of politics in their lives is what keeps them poor.”(Page 1) He further explains that by political he means: “activity with other people at every level, from the family to the neighborhood to the broader community city-state”(Page 1). The right and privilege to higher education in today’s society teeters like the scales of justice. In reading Andrew Delbanco’s, “College: What It Was, Is, and Should Be, it is apparent that Delbanco believes that the main role of college is to accommodate that needs of all students in providing opportunities to discover individual passions and dreams while furthering and enhancing the economic strength of the nation. Additionally, Delbanco also views college as more than just a time to prepare for a job in the future but a way in which students and young adults can prepare for their future lives so they are meaningful and purposeful. Even more important is the role that college will play in helping and guiding students to learn how to accept alternate point of views and the importance that differing views play in a democratic society. With that said, the issue is not the importance that higher education plays in society, but exactly who should pay the costly price tag of higher education is a raging debate in all social classes, cultures, socioeconomic groups and races.
What many need to be vigilant of is that not just campus students are in jeopardy when it comes to ravish and sexual assault, but additionally people with disabilities , children and elders, the homeless, prison inmates and immigrants that do not have licit documentation and that many times are put in positions of sexual coercion.

Also the colleges that attempt to cover up the crime should be penalized by not other our justice system but the media so the world can be better informed about the college they either way to go to or send their child to. First I summarized "Fraternities and Collegiate Rape Culture: Why Are Some Fraternities More Dangerous Places for Women?" written by A. Ayres Boswell and Joan Z. Space. Then I used information from my criminology class to better define violent crime . Lastly, I explained how rape on campuses is not a cultural component. Society should banish the word rape culture all together, we shouldn't confuse what a true culture is and confuse it with an inhumane crime.

Life has so many exciting events that happen, from birth to having a family and one of those events is going to college. High school students prepare everything to be accepted by their dream college. In college, there are many opportunities and excitement,. But with all happiness, there’s always a negative to coincide. A very big problem that is rampant among big college campuses is sexual assault. One in five women will be sexually assaulted while attending college and yet sixty-one percent of cases are unreported. Why is that? How come so few are heard? However, a quick study of the evidence shows that defence to be completely false. There is overwhelming evidence that most rapes are premeditated. Lisak says that most, contrary to popular belief, don’t stem from “mixed signals” or “dates gone bad”. Nine out of ten campus rapes are perpetrated by serial rapists. He himself admits to having previously harboured what he calls a “naive schema” that these numbers “may be true about crime in the community or crime in the military but surely university students are different. Turns out they’re not. But it’s a mental step to understand that there are a small number of repeat sex offenders who enroll in universities just as there are sex offenders in the military” (“Myths”). The simple fact that the majority of rapists are repeat offenders indicates a flawed mentality. One rape could possibly be a lapse in judgement, but two? For multiple rapes, the perpetrator has to believe his actions are okay. Nine out of ten rapists believeing their actions are okay indicates a prevalent, flawed mentality; one that universities fail to recognize.
