The great Gatsby
Being that times has change and racism and sexism were suitable in the 1900’s when the book was published, the great Gatsby movie director, Baz Luhrmann had to change the dialogue, characters and the theme to fit today’s society where racism and sexism isn’t accepted. The Great Gatsby is a book written by F. Scott Fitzgerald that was later created into a movie in 1974 and then again remade in 2013. In the movie there are a few aspects that made portraying the message Fitzgerald was trying to get across difficult. Director, Baz Luhrmann, seemed to have trouble finding a cast that was similar to the description of the characters in the book along with dialogue.

Nick appears to be a “good boy” in the book, one that doesn’t get into a lot of trouble. Nick says “I have been drunk just twice in my life, and the second time was that afternoon” ( pg 29 ) Nick is referring to the night tom and myrtle brought him to the party at the apartment. They seem to be calm and mellow in the book but drunken Nick leaves early, while in the movie the party seem to be more upbeat and a completely different scene or case. In the movie after spending the summer with Gatsby, Nick is diagnosed as morbidly alcoholic, this contrast the character that is portrayed in the book. The audience is drawn more to ick in the movie rather than Nick who was “boring” in the book.
Protagonist of the novel, the great jay Gatsby is a wealthy young man who is known for throwing big extravagant parties. Mysteriously known, no one knows where he got his fortune or how he became so wealthy. Falling in love with Daisy, Gatsby in the movie is perceived as dying as a “winner”. In the both the book and movie Gatsby is waiting for a call from Daisy onside of his pool , as Gatsby receives a call and his butler answers, George, myrtle husband, shoots Gatsby and then shoots himself taking his own life. The movie left us to believe that Gatsby had won Daisy’s heart back over before he passes
