Introduction Attention : At first, I did not know what Diabetes is, I just heard it from my Grandmother that she has Diabetes. I thought it was just an ordinary problem or symptom until one day, she got worse and got sent to the hospital. I was so scared at that time and that was the time I realized that i need to help her and research all about it. - Diabetes is a disease that affects how the body uses glucose, the main type of sugar in the blood. Glucose comes from the foods we eat and is the major source of energy needed to fuel the body's functions. 1) Type 1 Diabetes - known as insulin-dependent diabetes, juvenile diabetes or early-onset diabetes Insulin is not produce in the body. Usually people develop type 1 diabetes before their 40’s, often in teenage years. In Type 1 diabetes, there are approximately 10% of them are in this type. Type 1 diabetes is not common as type 2 diabetes. People with this type needs insulin injection for the rest of their life. 2) Type 2 Diabetes - also called as non insulin dependent or adult-onset diabetes. Approximately 95% people are in type 2 diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, tissues are resistant to insulin. Insulin is still made by the pancreas but in inadequate amount. Sometimes the amount of insulin is normal or even high, but because the tissues are resistant to it, hyperglycemia results. Overweight, obese and people with a lot of visceral fat, also known as belly fat, have a greater risk of acquiring type 2 diabetes.
