Psychology can be used in any situation at any time. Understanding psychology and properly using it puts a person at a great advantage no matter what the career field a person may be in. My goal is to one day become a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating mental illnesses. There are various types of psychiatrists that range from helping with drug addicts to retired citizens to up-and-coming teens. Psychology can be used in the field of psychiatry in many ways, including the relation between biology and psychology, developmental psychology, motivation and emotion, and the theories and measurements of personality. For a psychiatrist, understanding why children think differently than teens and the influence that nature and nurture have on a children’s social and emotional abilities. (Rathus, 2015). This topic can be applied to any parent because if they were educated about developmental psychology, they would know if their child is mentally and physically on the right track depending on their age.
