Descriptive Essay - The Swimming Pool
The tiles were still dirty from the residue of chlorine and pittle combined into one thick layer of impossible gunk. This gunk surrounded the edge of pool right where the water met the lowest part of the tile and was even apparent underneath the shallow water fountain around the back end. The ring had been worn away in spots where the missus had got so fed up that she was gonna put an end to this "ring of filth" once and for all. A few times she had started, but had always found a broken nail or straying hair to become spontaneously obsessive about when her arm got tired of scrubbing.
The diving board had been broken several times since last summer and had become somewhat of a hazard to the youngins. Just looking at the double springs and a...

All living things depend on a source of energy for their survival. These sources may vary from one species to another. For example, human’s and animal’s main source of energy is food, while plants main source of energy is sunlight. Plants lack the ability to move and look for sources of energy, runaway from predators, or avoid Abiotic stress. Instead, they have Photoreceptors such as chlorophyll found in plants’ chloroplasts which absorbs light and changes it into a cascade of electron transfer that serve as the main source of energy for plants. Moreover, different kinds of proteins regulate the plants life cycle such as phytochrome, cryptochromes, and phototropins. These proteins are mostly pigments that intercept light at different wavelengths and thus each photoreceptor is activated by different light conditions. Using their Photoreceptors, plants transform different light signals to regulate the plant’s growth, development, defense mechanisms, and stress responses. Most of the processes and mechanisms taking place in plant cells usually rely on signaling pathways. These signaling pathways depend on proteins that have different function in activating, inhibiting, or relying the signal from a protein to another. The most important proteins in these signaling pathways are kinases and phosphatases. Studies have recently shown important data that proves the interaction of these photoreceptors and some kinases and phosphatases, for example the interaction of phytochromes with PP2A phosphatases (Bissondial, 2005).
Photosynthesis is a series of light driven reactions that convert energy poor compounds such as carbon dioxide and water to energy rich sugars [1] such as glucose. The process generate an electron gradient across the membrane of a chloroplast, which is used for ATP synthesis, and simultaneously produces electrons used to make NADPH, using NADP+ as an energy carrier[2]. Crudely put, it is the method by which autotrophic plants make their own ‘food.’

Naples is a very unique city that attracts people from all over the world to its beautiful surroundings. Amongst the pristine beaches and championship golf courses, a teenager can find many entertaining locations. One such area can be found in downtown Naples on Fifth Avenue. Along this stretch of road near the beach lies a vast array of shops, cafes, restaurants, and other establishments. I often find myself spending many nights on Fifth Avenue, walking along the tree-lined streets or sitting in one of the numerous cafés or restaurants.
Then the carbon dioxide is escorted into specials bundle- sheath cells, where rubisco can bind to it, thus initiating the Calvin cycle” (Krogh, 2011, p. 152). This process of photosynthesis uses four carbon molecules. This mode of photosynthesis is less likely to experience photorespiration. Photosynthesis will take place in specials cells during this process. The stomata can remain closed for long periods which will not have an effect on the plant, because it is able to trap oxygen.
This pool is my soul, and the slight, gentle waves are the beating of my heart. I stand on the deck looking down at the clear, calm water, and raise my hands above my head. I dive into the water, smooth and straight like an arrow. I enter the water without a splash, and glide underwater, feeling the cool water on my skin, and the scent of chlorine in the air. I feel powerful, immortal, and completely at peace.
Adolescents like to have a place they can call their own. In the fifties, teenagers hung out at the malt shop, sipping cherry cokes and rockin' with Elvis. Today, in small town USA, they're jam skating while listening to the favorite group of the month. I was amazed to find a microcosm of life blooming on a 70 x 160-foot cement slab known as a roller skating rink.
Have you ever read a book that’s so good that you just can’t put it down? The Hunger Games is one of those books that once you start reading it you just can’t put it down because it’s that good. The Hunger Games is a book about a girl named Katniss Everdeen that volunteers when her sister’s name gets drawn for the annual Hunger Games. The annual Hunger Games is when a boy and a girl from each district (there are 12 districts) gets picked and thrown into an arena to fight to the death, and try to be the last one to be alive and win! Katniss and Peeta go to the arena and try their hardest to stay alive. A person should read The Hunger Games because of the well-developed characters, it’s clear and easy to read, and it’s very interesting/full of action.
So you can see “The Hunger Games” is a deadly unforgiving book about the journey of Peeta and Katniss to win the Hunger Games and return to their home. They soon realize that this fight won’t be all it’s cracked up to be.
Swimming has been my whole life, since I jumped into the pool for the very first time. I loved every aspect of swimming from the adrenaline running through my body during my races and getting to spend even more time with my friends and my sister, and the stress of big meets coming up in the schedule. Except everything didn't go according to plan after the first day of school when I got home and I saw my parents sitting by my sister on the coach and my sister was crying.
Everyone has a story that has led them to be who they are today and this story is mine. When I was younger, I’d spend my days in the pool. My mother encouraged me to change my weekend pleasures of floating on water, to a daily sport that I compete amongst others. Swimming has made me to be who I am today in a vast amount of ways. This sport taught me to push past the limits that I set for myself. Swimming has made me strive to be the best I can be physically, mentally, and personally. It has shown me that to work as a team, we can accomplish more than what one person can.
Phosphorus is an essential element for photosynthesis, the process in which plants create food (CS, Unknown). Energy from the sun, absorbed by chlorophyll pigments, excites electrons in chlorophyll molecules which are transported to an electron acceptor. The energy is used to create Adenosine Triphosphate and split water molecules, absorbed through the roots, into hydrogen and oxygen ions. The hydrogen ions (H+) are stored in the thylakoid membrane, and the oxygen (O2) is diffused as waste. Hydrogen ions and electrons are taken up through the NADP (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate) where NADPH2 is formed. The ADP and NADPH2 reduce CO2 from the air into carbon molecules. These compo...
For those who like winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, we have just the perfect place- the remote yet very popular mountain resort called Balea Lake.
Athletics, no matter how competitive, teach athletes countless lessons. Involvement in athletics teaches athletes to be dedicated, persevere, how to manage time, and the best and most important lesson of all: how to be an exceptional teammate. The camaraderie on teams makes for long lasting bonds and lifetime friendships. My career on the high school swim team has given me just that. There is one person in particular who has made my swim experience one I will always remember, and I cannot thank swimming enough for bringing me one of my best friends.
