don’t think my sister will make any friends for the time being. My mom broke the silence”so don't you think this place is cool” my sister said “are you being sarcastic this place is horrible” mom then ran into somebody that turned our life around. Later that month mom went on a date and I was babysitting my sister. there going on a canoe trip down by the lake. They are late they have not even text me. my sister was annoying me. I wish they'd come quicker. then we got the phone call it was from police they said my mom was missing and her boyfriend had no knowledge of where she was. He said he didn’t hear struggle so she didn’t drown. He told us to stay home but that was not what I was thinking I was already plan to go down to the river to search for my mom. when I got to the river I didn't see anything out of the ordinary but i did see a weird light on the other side before I could investigate. I felt my phone go off I looked down it was her boyfriend. I was down with him so I ignored it and shoved it back in my pocket. when i looked back up the light was gone i got so mad i threw a stone in then something amazing happened stone came skipping back I did it again and again they all came skipping back i ran back up to tell my sister. When I did I confronted two police that didn’t seem to happy. few days later.
They still haven’t even come close to finding my mom and I was placed under house arrest I wasn’t aloud to leave the room it was annoying. I told my sister about the river but she didn’t believe me she said I was crazy but I am not crazy I know what I saw. I NEED to get back to that river. But how that is the question they put sensors everywhere are in the house. I have tried to get the anklet off but it’s no use the policeman has the key then it hit me the pulley. It goes all the way down to the lobby it is what they what they use to bring up food from the kitchen. It goes under the sensors i’ll put my plan into action tomorrow. the next day I got into the pulley and slid all the way down to the kitchen. I pi thru a hole to see if there was anyone there. there was I was going to have to sneak out. I quietly slid open the door and rolled behind the fridge and slowly walked out the room. once I got to the lobby I walked out the lobby and ran to the river
Once I got to the river i instantly started throwing stones they all came skipping back. then I thought what would happen if I swam across then I spotted a kanoe I brought it across the to the area and canoed halfway across the the lake then I couldn’t move any farther I
stuck hand out and it when through whatever invisible wall was blocking the canoe. “Well it looks like i'm going to have to swim” I said to my myself then I jumped and i didn’t get sent into the water instead i got sent into a swirling mass of purple blue and red and then fainted. miss stone the introduction is what I’m turning in for harris burdick story this story will be continued
Author and historian, Carol Sheriff, completed the award winning book The Artificial River, which chronicles the construction of the Erie Canal from 1817 to 1862, in 1996. In this book, Sheriff writes in a manner that makes the events, changes, and feelings surrounding the Erie Canal’s construction accessible to the general public. Terms she uses within the work are fully explained, and much of her content is first hand information gathered from ordinary people who lived near the Canal. This book covers a range of issues including reform, religious and workers’ rights, the environment, and the market revolution. Sheriff’s primary aim in this piece is to illustrate how the construction of the Erie Canal affected the peoples’ views on these issues.
Life can sometime bring unwanted events that individuals might not be willing to face it. This was the conflict of O’Brien in the story, “On The Rainy River”. As the author and the character O’Brien describes his experiences about the draft to the Vietnam War. He face the conflict of whether he must or must not go to the war, in this moment O’Brien thinking that he is so good for war, and that he should not be lost in that way. He also show that he disagree with the consbet of the war, how killing people will benefit the country. In addition O’Brien was terrifying of the idea of leaving his family, friends, and everything that he has done in the past years.
In the chapter the “Rainy River” of the novel The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, O’Brien conveys a deep moral conflict between fleeing the war to go to Canada versus staying and fighting in a war that he does not support. O’Brien is an educated man, a full time law student at Harvard and a liberal person who sees war as a pointless activity for dimwitted, war hungry men. His status makes him naive to the fact that he will be drafted into the war and thus when he receives his draft notice, he is shocked. Furthermore, his anti-war sentiments are thoroughly projected, and he unravels into a moral dilemma between finding freedom in Canada or standing his ground and fighting. An image of a rainy river marking the border between Minnesota and Canada is representative of this chapter because it reflects O’Brien’s moral division between finding freedom in Canada or standing his ground and fighting in the Vietnam war.
We hit a down hill point so we grabbed drift wood. It would save man power and be faster to sled down. The rest helped Landon out the most because he was the smallest so he didn 't have energy left to use. But this refreshed him so we could keep going. Time was not on are side. The only thing keeping us alive was the fact that if we got out we would be the first ones ever to make it out not dead. It was about the hottest point in the day now and we had to find shade or we would get to dehydrated and die. We drank all the water we had just to fine out that we had a under ground stream below
To some this story might seem like a tragedy, but to Christians this is a beautiful story. Although young Harry dies at the end, he is accepted into the kingdom of God, which is far superior to anything on Earth. A non-religious family raises him and the first taste of Christianity he gets makes him want to pursue God. In Flannery O’Conner’s short story, The River, the allure of Gods grace and the repelling of sinful ways are shown heavily through Harry.
Arriving at Lacey’s house I walk to the backdoor letting myself into the house. Lacey was putting on tanning lotion in the kitchen, “Lacey,” I called to her, “my mom wants me to pick up snacks for the beach, do you want to go into town with me?”, “Sure,” she replied, “do you mind if my cousin comes with us?”, “Of course I don’t mind,“ I answered, “but we have to get moving, my dad only left me the car to use ‘til noon.”
In Mark Twain’s “Two Views of the River”, about Mark Twain recounting his ability to recognize and appreciate beauty early in his career as a steamboat pilot, in contrast to his perceptions later in life when his job became monotonous, he uses various types of diction in order to create contrasting tones, and analogies in order to teach the audience to examine the ways in which knowledge can destroy ones ability to appreciate nature’s beauty. His use of diction in contrasting tones, and analogies, helps show how his increased knowledge and familiarity with the river caused him to lose his appreciation of it.
With towering bald cypress trees and long stretches of calm water, the Frio River in Concan, Texas, provides public waters for visitors looking to go tubing. Sitting next to Garner State Park, which provides ample recreational activities like hunting, fishing, and hiking, the Frio River has created my best summer memories. I have enjoyed countless summers burning my skin under the hot southern sun. Tradition calls my family to Frio County each summer, along with hundreds more families looking to escape their daily lives. Driving in, cell phone reception dies and people get the chance to look up and see the wondrous nature provided by the Texas Hill Country.
“Don’t waste that water! Kids in Africa don’t even have water to drink!” Almost every American has heard this saying before. We have heard this because there are water shortages in third world countries like Africa, as seen in the movie “Blue Gold”. But why have we developed this notion that there are only water shortages in third world countries? When in reality, there is a shortage of water right here in our home country. The Colorado River’s water is high in demand as it serves millions of people, powers industries, and is home to all different kinds of wildlife. The Colorado River will not be able to keep up with the increasing demand of water and soon enough the river will go dry. Organizations like the Colorado River Water Users Association are trying to change the way that the water is used and adjust how it is managed. The Colorado River is drying up and the western states are running out of water, however, public policy is trying to regulate and preserve the Colorado River to make it more sustainable in the future.
Page 12 is the beginning of the chapter “The River”. Dana is transported back to where rufus (currently name is unknown) is drowning in a river, his mother is at the bank in a panic. Dana drags rufus to shore and proceeds to save his life by giving him mouth to mouth resuscitation. She is returned to the present when his father arrives and puts a large gun in her face. Dana is returned home at this point where only a couple of seconds have passed for her husband Kevin (Note that dana reappears soaking and mud covered). The next chapter is titled “The Fire”. Once Dana is taken back to rufus’ time she finds rufus to be a couple years older than before. He has lit the drape on fire to get back at his father but became scared once he realised it
Life dwells in a never-ending sequence of decisions which revolves around an individual's motivation to achieve a goal. More often than not these choices are insignificant and lack meaning in an individual’s life. However, when a decision arises which will surely have an impact on the rest of the individual’s life, they will undoubtedly look to their motivation to guide their decision. On the other hand, when the individual is faced with the inexplicable decision that can change the fate of one's life, they may be faced with a dilemma of conflicting motivations, which resonates from what others desire for the individual and what the individual desires. In his short story, On The Rainy River, Tim O’Brien depicts his life-changing journey in
We are just leaving Independence and I obsoletely hate leaving this place it is like a circus some people can't get their animals or to there saddles and straps. I am still glad though that I took the rode way behind so I can follow there wagon indention. As we are leaving we come upon this river called the Kansas River. Honestly most of my life I have been afraid of water because I can barley swim at all. I would drown to death very quickly. Especially with those type of ragging waters.
It was the last Saturday in December of 1997. My brother, sister, and I were chasing after each other throughout the house. As we were running, our parents told us to come and sit down in the living room. They had to tell us something. So, we all went down stairs wondering what was going on. Once we all got down stairs, the three of us got onto the couch. Then, my mom said, “ Well…”
Then the phone rang and Dad answered it. It was hard to tell what the conversation was about, it did not last long and Dad didn’t say much. When he hung up he was quiet. Then Mom asked, “Who was that, honey?” Blunt and to the point he said, “Grandma,” (his mom) “Grandpa got sick last night.” Suddenly I was not hungry any more. “What’s that mean?” Mom asked, taking the words right out of my mouth. Dad did not really know. All Grandma said was that Grandpa got up in the night, went to the bathroom, and then yelled for help before collapsing. She called 911 and an ambulance came and got him. From the hospital in Spirit Lake he was life-flighted to Sioux Falls.
He asked if I was done eating? I said I was done so we left the restaurant. It was one hell of a restaurant, I wonder if they have one in Rochester,Mn. We drove to Rochester,Mn, it took us about almost two hours. when we got to the city, I got nervous. This is it, the moment I’ve been waiting for, all three of us were standing outside a huge house. I’m finally going to see my mother, and I’m going to live with her, till death do us apart. Or marriage, hahaha. I ran to the front door of the house and knocked couple times, unable to hold in all the excitement. After the fourth knock my mother opened the door. I just stood there and froze, she was wearing a dress, a beautiful dress. It was turquoise and it had white flowers all over it, and she wore a white scarf over her head. My mother is a very beautiful women. she had the most mesmerizing light brown eyes ever. But age was getting to her, you could see the wrinkles around her face. I was brought back to reality when, my mother screamed my name, and grabbed me. I wiped my tears away quickly and hugged her back. we were like that for a bit, we even forgot about my brother and my uncle, who stood behind
