California Screamin’ It was a sunny fall day in Anaheim California. Disneyland roller coasters were sparkling in the sun as I made my way to my first ride of the day, California screamin’. I had never been on this ride, because the last time we visited Disneyland I was 10 years old and being the strong willed child I was, I refused to go on any scary roller coasters. Now that I was 14 years old, I was ready to go on perhaps the scariest ride in the California Adventure park. My three younger siblings Abby, Isaac and Micah also wanted to go on it, so we get in line. I looked down and my youngest sibling Micah, who was four years old. He looked terrified, because this was his first ever roller coaster ride. Soon enough it was our turn. We walked up to a friendly guy with a Disneyland vest on and a …show more content…
I sit down next to my sister Abby and we buckle up and bring the big bar over our heads. Soon the ride begins to roll forward, signaling the beginning of the roller coaster. Excitedly Abby and I glance at each other and smile. The ride begins to exhilarate and I hear Abby screaming. We go up, down, and around an upside down loop. Suddenly the ride ends and we give a sigh. We walk off as fast as we can so we can watch Micah and my dad go on the ride. We walk until we have a perfect view of the of the roller coaster front. We see their carts begin to roll forward. They quickly zoom up and around, then suddenly it comes to a halt right after the upside down loop. Then we see everyone getting out of their carts and beginning to climb down the emergency stairs on the roller coaster. The four of us watch as Micah and my dad climb down the last stairs and finally start walking over to us. My dad begins to tell us the crazy story. Apparently my brother forgot to take his glasses off before the ride, then during the upside down loop my dad looked over at him and saw that his glasses were falling off completely. My dad reached over and snatch them mid air while
It was the summer of 2012 and my family was taking another trip to Six Flags Great America. Earlier that summer we went just for me to be disappointed. At the time I wasn’t 54 inches yet and couldn’t ride any of the rides that I wanted to because they were the most popular at the amusement park. But, I hit a growth spurt between trips and we planned to ride all of the big rollercoasters. The one that I was most terrified of at the time was Raging Bull, one of the tallest, fastest, and longest steel coasters in the US. As we started to wait in line for the ride I was shaking with both anticipation and fear and began to rethink my idea to ride the rollercoaster. I decided to stay in line and see what many people thought was a great coaster.
As with any other Sunday of the year, it was time to mow the grass yet again. Me, my brother and my father are the men for the job on these nice hot days. We all plug into our headphones into our ears as if to escape from the labor that is mowing. This day however, is very different from all the rest. My father, instead of listening to his calming house music while on our riding lawn mower, decides to listen to heavy metal. Next thing you know, our lawn mower has a bent wheel and blade from him crashing into things. This is just one real life example of how music can take you from calm, cool, and collected to angry and destructive. From seeing how one person can react to angry music how would a whole society react to music as a whole group?
At 6pm on a Saturday evening, Sally and her parents were on their way to go skiing for their 20th time. The whole family was extremely excited and looking forward to this, especially since the place was somewhere they’d never been to before. As they were in the car, Sally was daydreaming about what the place would look like, and wondered if her worst fear would be there: ski lifts. Everything about this scared her. The car is out in the open, has no roof, and the ride could malfunction at any time. Since this unanswered question was on her mind now, she decided to ask her parents to see if they knew. “I’m just wondering, do either of you know if there are going to be ski lifts at the place?” Both of her parents paused in confusion but didn’t
While entering Islands of Adventure I heard this very loud roar and didn’t know where it was coming from, so I kept walking forward to try and find out and on my left I see this big green roller coaster roaring as it did flips and turns so I followed in amazement and I said aloud, “I wonder what is the name of this ride”? Someone answered me and said “this is the incredible hulk; how don’t you know about this ride”. As I walk through the park I noticed that there are different sections of the park such as superhero land, the lost continent, and wizardly world of harry potter. My favorite one had to have been the lost continent because of this new ride called “The Reign of Kong”. The Reign of Kong was based off of the movie King Kong, but while in the ride it made you feel like you are really in the jungle trying to escape from the dinosaurs and Kong comes and kills them then blood splashes over everyone. After walking around the park all day we got ready to go back to our room it began to pour down rain while walking back to our
Roller coasters come in all sizes and configurations. Roller coasters are designed to be intense machines that get the riders’ adrenaline pumping. Ever since my first roller coaster ride, I knew I was hooked. I cannot get enough of the thrilling sensation caused by these works of engineering. When people board these rides, they put their faith in the engineers who designed the rides and the people who maintain and operate the rides. In this paper, I will bring to your attention a specific instance when the operation of one of these coasters came into question and led to a very tragic incident. From this, I will look into the events leading up to the incident and evaluate the decisions made by the people involved.
What most people expect to hear is me looking forward to riding the roller coasters. I hope that’s not what you thought because I hate them, maybe not hate, but really I’m just not a big fan of high altitudes in general. Consequently, this is why I was always reluctant to going with my family on this trip. Nevertheless I always went. Now that you know I’m not a fan of heights you could guess what attractions I was accustomed to riding, let’s just say my height requirement was more than enough to be eligible to ride. This specific year I decided to bring a friend to accompany me and in hindsight that was a bad idea because he was a roller coaster
It was 12:00 at night, but I was still wide awake. I was anxious for the trip that was in store for me. The next morning I drove to the airport and took a flight to Colorado. I rented a car and drove to Red Cliffs lodge in Moab, Utah. Moab is a dry, desert town in Utah located right next to Canyonlands national park where I would spend most of my time. Right as I got out of the car I could see the beautiful canyonlands scenery. The gigantic cliffs of the island in the sky loomed over the lodge. The blue waters of the Colorado river ran behind the lodge. My room was spacious and had a great view of the cliffs. The best part of the room was the window right above my bed. That night I fell asleep gazing at a full moon and a sky full of stars.
“August 2000, our family of six was on the way to a wedding. It was a rainy day, and Gregg was not familiar with the area. The car hit standing water in the high-way, and started hydro-planing. Greg lost control of the car. Then, the car went backwards down into a ditch and started sliding on its wheels sideways. After sliding for 100 feet or so, the car flipped, at least once. After flipping, the car came to rest on its wheels, and the passenger window broke out.
In this course, I’ve learned about the three sub-genres of horror. These three sub-genres are moral allegory, psychological horror, and the fantastic. The first sub-genre of horror, moral allegory, revolves around a rule being broken and the punishments for breaking the rule. There’s commonly a focus on the battle between good and evil, and there is often a supernatural evil involved. Commentary on our society is also common. The next sub-genre, psychological horror, capitalizes on deviant or abnormal human psychology. This abnormal creature creates the horror, whether through their actions or just by existing. The “monster” of the story is often a representation of an aspect of ourselves. This “monster” is not
As a young Canadian, one of the popular things to do for kids in the area was to go sledding after church on Sundays. One particular Sunday, Moe and his siblings, Marie, Jimmy and Tom, were quite excited to go sledding. He raced to the top of the hill to be one of the first to go down, but the hill was a sheet of ice. Moe’s sled quickly raced down the hill and as he tried to pull the brake to slow down nothing happened. He hits a large bump and goes airborne across the street crashing into the back of a vehicle backing out of their driveway.
So I was looking forward to this ride just to see my grandma like that. The ride itself was more of a sit and see ride. We sat on a boat, and it would move slowly so we could see all of the little figurines from the different cultures move and dance. As the ride went on, the song “It’s a Small World After All” would play, and I would look at my grandma and she would have this happy face and she would be clapping along to the music. I myself enjoyed the ride because it was meant to be a happy ride, and let me tell you, it was certainly was happy. Those rides were really fun to go on, but they didn’t give that intense feeling that I was looking for. Enter Splash mountain, my personal favorite ride from the Magic Kingdom. This reason this was my favorite ride is that when we went on it, we all got soaked. It was kind of funny listening to my family react to getting wet, especially my grandma because she hates getting wet. Plus when we went down the long slide at the end, my heart felt like it went out of my chest. It was an exhilarating ride, and I had a good time on
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a well known horror film around the world. It connects to the real world in ways without even thinking about it, such as the basic instinct of kill or be killed. The only difference is that the film Texas Chainsaw Massacre added a twist to this instinct. This film was based on a true story of the serial killer Ed Gein , who represents the character Leatherface. Leatherface in the film was more gruesome compared to the actual killer.
It all began when a couple of friends and myself went to Six Flags for some fun right at the beginning of summer. We arrived there early in morning, which was about nine o’clock for us. The birds were chirping and the sun was bright. There was also a hint of dew, making the grass sparkle in the sunlight. The place was packed, people were standing in huge lines waiting to buy their tickets. My friends and I were lucky because we had season passes and just walked right to the front gate and walked in. Naturally there was a security check at the front gate, little did I know that I was going to run into them again in the near future. From there we went straight to the ride “The Mind Eraser.” It was always wise to go to that ride first, because as the day progressed, the line grew longer. Since the ride is only about a minute long, the wait then becomes to long to make the ride worth the wait. As we got on, all of us were a little jumpy. It was the first time being to the amusement park that year, and our stomachs were not immune to the s...
“You are about to discover what lies beyond the fifth dimension, beyond the deepest, darkest corner of the imagination, in the Tower of Terror.” The twilight zone’s: tower of terror was finished building July 22, 1994, and the queue lines have been booming ever since. With a ride this popular and constantly being run, there is bound to be malfunctions in the safety systems. Disney prevents such malfunctions from happening, fortunately. Even though there are low counts of injuries on this iconic ride, there can still be improvements to the safety protocols, because the history of the ride shows that change is possible, there are different safety features on other drop rides, and the safety protocols, at
When I heard my parents talking about going to Disney World I was so excited. It was a long trip down to Florida and I could not sit still, because I was so excited. We finally arrived that evening and decided to stay in a hotel near the theme park. When it was time for bed I could not go to sleep for a long time, because I was so excited about going at Disney world. When I saw the big mirror ball from the entrance, I was amazed. Disney world had a wide variety of rides. There were tons of rides that shocked me. Some of these rides made you feel like you were riding in a jet because of how fast they were. There was even a roller coaster ride in the huge mirror ball. It was a slow ride, but I still liked it because there was air conditioning inside the ball. We spent all day at the park until we had ridden everything. That night Disney World had a firework show. The fireworks seemed like they lasted forever with the amazing colors bursting in the air one right after another. When the firework show finally ended my parents told me that it was time to leave. I was...
