Out of all the things people have in common what is the one component that brings friends closer ? Laughter. Laughter is a drug you don’t have to physically take to feel good.Even though humor has no real health benefits and in some ways can be dangerous, a bond between friends can be created through laughter because humor is good psychologically and laughter unites people.There is a story I can recall about me and a friend, and it made us closer than anything else could. In that moment I felt as if I made a friend for life. Laughter is something that we share among others and can in ways be one of the best feelings in the world.

Dating back to 7th grade there was a time where I was at track practice and it was a day where we would run from school to Chrissy Fields which is in between one to three miles. The same day during class I wasn 't feeling so well, but I thought I was well enough to make the run, but boy was I wrong.I had three of my closest friends run with me, Dekembae, Jay, and Minkyu. On the trail I would make frequent stops to the nearest bathroom to release whatever was in me. I finally managed to make it to the end of Chrissy Fields and seeing my state of health my friends didn 't want to leave my side. Dekembae or DK for short was displeased with me feeling this way and was willing to do anything to make me feel a little better. DK explains to me that he doesn 't want to see me like that and said he would do anything to make me laugh. DK asks “ what do you want me to do to make you laugh ? “ and I reply with “ I don 't know if theres anything you can do.” Keep in mind that DK is the jokester in the group and is usually the glue that keeps us together. Dk respond with “ I’m going to throw this rock at that dude” and I reply with a “ No you wont thats
Although modern science has allowed us to develop many complex medicines, laughter is still the strongest one available in the real world and in the book. Laughter proves to be a strong medicine in more ways than one and is completely free, allowing anyone to use it at anytime. It allows us to connect socially with people, it can be used as a way of overthrowing power, and it is good for your health. As Randle McMurphy showed in the novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, laughter can lighten the mood in the darkest situations.
Laughing is resorted to in times where we need to laugh. It’s an escape from reality, its comfort, its fear. Laughing subdues any emotion that is too high strung in our system. It lets it vapor out in a melancholy form that helps us cope with problems that no one else can really understand and help us with. In One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest it allowed emotional tension escape from the patients and made nurse Ratched lose her ward.
This book is about so many things, it is hard to stay on one topic for any length of time. In order to focus on the laugh and laughing as a healing agent, I would like to look towards other influential writers and thinkers to tie together laughing and healing. First, let’s see what laughter is according to Meriam Webster: laughter- n. a cause of merriment. Using this simple definition, we can assume that laughter can come from any form of merriment or emotion like triumph, contempt, relief, and almost any other emotion there is. It is easy to picture in your head different underlying emotions in laughter; the sinister laughs of witches and ghosts, the insincere, fake laughs you hear after pointless, humorless attempts at jokes on the six o’clock news, to the silent laughs of mimes and clowns that fill the people around them with a happy feeling. These are all examples of what laughter is and how it is used. But why do we do it? What in nature created the laugh and made it so successful?
That shows the power of friendship. Friendship is like a spark of life that brings two people together from sometimes different situations to learn more about each other and to benefit one another. In Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, two close friends, Lennie and George, who are opposites in size and personality, come from different situations, but end up traveling together to find a job in the Salinas. Both have done so to pursue their hopes and dreams of happiness and to purchase a small ranch of their own.
Friendship means different things for everyone. It can mean happiness and trust. Friends are important to connect to, talk to, and to help in tough situations. Friends help teach life lessons. Most importantly, friends are there to love and to feel loved. The Simple Gift by Steven Herrick revolves around the friendship between the main characters, Old Bill, Billy, and Caitlin. Their friendship resulted in them learning valuable life lessons and experiencing the power of love.
It allows elders to maintain their social ties within the community and maintain the all important sense of self that many elders lose after retirement. The following examples from the case studies of Eddie, Bill and Alice show how the use of humor allows them to give them a sense of social identity within the community and maintain social participation that is essential for a succesful aging process. Laughter is associated with positive affects and social appropriateness and is correlated most strongly with the perception of a contribution to health made by a laughter type. The data received from the surveys revealed an interesting pattern, according to the researchers. The results suggest that young adults, relative to the older participants, saw high-volume, less controlled laughter as more healthful. The older, but not younger, participants indicated that social appropriateness is an important attribute of health promoting laughter. Both groups indicated that positive emotion was an important attribute. The effects of humor at the cellular level and on the immune system report positive effects on physical and mental health (Davis-Evans, 2013). Humor in nursing is about nurses relating to patients. The sun gleamed vibrantly on August 5, 2008, but I did not sense the warmth as my thoughts were elsewhere. I was only six years old at the time and preparing to begin first grade in less than one month. As I crossed the threshold into the home of my best friend, I had a sensation everything would change. At such a young age, I was having to tell my best friend goodbye. Blake Basgall had leukemia and would not be around when I returned from vacation, according to my mom. That day, I had spent hours coloring a picture in his favorite color, blue, so I could give it to him prior to heading to my grandma’s for the week. Blake was my first real friend. There are many valuable things in life like family, sports, school but what about friendship? To live life without friendship is something no one should ever go through. Friendship is a necessity to living a successful life. Friendship occurs when someone is a supporter, gives assistance, and is attached to someone all the while genuinely taking care of them when they are hurt (The definition of friend, 1995-2002). A good and healthy friendship can be defined fro individuals as when someone has his or her own support system, a friend being loyal, and will always have genuine and mutual trust.
Feeling down and depressed? Laugh all those troubles away. Laughter is a simple yet substantial way of putting that little spring back in the step. When people say “Laughter is the best medicine,” what are they referring to? Laughing acts as calorie burner, prevents heart disease or other illnesses, can increase learning abilities and focus, or even bring a more optimistic outlook on life.
We do not make friends because they are useful but the bond of friendship, once it grows stronger and stronger has a number of positive aspects. There are certain secrets that can only be shared with our friends only. When we are facing a difficult situation in our lives, only true friends come forward to help us overcome all the difficulties.
Friendship is one of the most important things you can get out of life. It’s something that everyone has to have because without it, we would all go insane.
