Someone you should know is someone who has changed my life forever. Lindy and I met on the first day of our Freshman year, she had immediately introduced herself and asked me to hang out after school without even knowing who I was. Just from that simple question it had changed both of our lives. Surely, one thing that is quickly noticeable about Lindy is her beauty. Her eyes are a deep brown that shine a golden bronze when the sun reflects off them, occasionally a pair of simple black rimmed glasses frame them. She has a timeless smile with perfect, straight, white teeth that always shine through her gorgeous lips. Her hair is side swept, long on the top and short everywhere else. She is always changing the color of it whenever she gets tired of it, the colors ranging from blue, purple, pink, etc. Additionally, Lindy’s sense of style is unique, but fashionable. She wears “whatever feels comfortable,” which comprises dark skinny jeans littered with holes and a different sweatshirt almost every day. Each one worn-out and with a faded logo decorating it. Almost if not all of her clothes were free; whether …show more content…
if they were hand-me-downs or if she was just given them, she did not mind, in all actuality she loved it. To accompany her outfit, her shoes always look as if she has had many adventures in them. Not one pair looking a day over three years old. The brands always consisting of ‘Converse’ and ‘Vans’. Furthur more, a striking aspect about her is, her personality.
Lindy is an open minded person, she will never judge anyone before she knows them and will always listen to what is said. She also has little to no filter when she talks to you; whether it is in your best interest or not, she will let you know what is on her mind, but it is definitely nice having an unbiased opinion on topics. Lindy is exceptionally intelligent, even if she does not show it in her school work, it is apparent when conversing with her. She has strong vocabulary and a sense of understanding. Lindy’s sense of humor differs her the most from others. She tends to tell jokes in references that no one (besides me) understands. Not to mention she speaks fluent sarcasm; other small aspects that contribute to her personality is that she is creative, philosophical, political, Adventurous and so
on. In conclusion, we had been to many places and have done numerous things together. Subsequently, making many memories that will stay with us forever. Lindy and I would explore many abandoned buildings and go thought the memories left behind from the past attendants, always taking a small memento with. Lindy and I would always do everything together, if I would be invited to something she had to come with or I would not go. Lindy and I had gone to many bonfires and lake gatherings, always enjoying eachothers company among the others, never needing anyone but ourselves. After being friends with her for a little over a year we have had many adventures and have made what feels like thousands of memories together. I was always there when she needed me, no matter what time it was or where I was, I would always come at her beck and call. As she would for me, I am Lindy’s rock as she is mine.
On the twenty-first of August, our Wearable History class took a trip to downtown Bowling Green, to visit Mosaic Confinement Studio. The studio had an old-fashioned vibe, and was like a vintage-garment haven. There, we were asked to choose a piece that we thought was vintage, identify the time period it actually came from, and also take some additional notes on the style and the garment’s details. After searching through multiple racks, the first piece I found was a lace blazer. It turned out to only be vintage-inspired, so I went searching again. I came across a few other pieces, but nothing was really jumping out at me. Eventually, I came across a lavender dress that immediately made me think of Julia Roberts in “Mystic Pizza”, and I knew I found my garment.
Back in Celie’s time women putting on a pair of pants was a paramount statement. The pants are also her source of economic success. Page 146: "Well,
Her face is smooth, calculated, and precision-made, like an expensive baby doll, skin like flesh- colored enamel, blend of white and cream and baby-blue eyes, small nose, pink little nostrils-everything working together except the color on her lips and fingernails, and the size of her bosom.
Today we can see items of clothing that are commonly worn that have grown out of this initial innovation of freeing a woman’s body. This can be seen in clothing from the Spring 2017 New York Fashion week (see Figure 2), as the model’s bodies are freed by the more minimal use of material. The lowering of necklines and the increase in skin shown in haute couture over the decades is owed to Art Deco fashion and is symbolic of the rise of women’s rights over the years, as the physical discomfort and restrictions that the tight corsets of previous eras could be considered of women’s place in society. The new style being a stance against the oppression. It dictates that a persons own comfort and style is to the upmost importance, not to contort one’s body into something it is not meant to. Today it is shown in loose and cropped pants, shorts, low necklines, cropped tops, and various other clothing that reveals skin that was once covered. Art Deco fashion is also seen today through “chic garçonne” ideal that emerged out of early feminism that made women want to do the same things that men could, and so adopted smoking, sport, an interest in vehicles, a flirty sense of
In this essay I am going to examine whether Curley's wife is a tart or
...s. The introduction of nylon and of the mass-production methods that were stimulated by the rising demand for what now became a machine-made article progressively led to simpler and more functional lifestyles (Ewing 1 1 7). This fabric could be rinsed out and drip-dried in an hour or two with no need of ironing. The woman in the ad has no time for laborious tasks that come along with complicated clothing: she has people to see, things to do, and new areas to conquer.
In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, Curley’s wife may seem insignificant character because of her lack of identity. As Curley’s wife develops, we can see that she isn’t the unimportant character readers expect her to be but much more interesting and complex.
Mama is hoping that Maggie will use the quilt as a practical everyday item. She sees the quilts for their functional use that they were made to use in everyday life. Meanwhile, Dee finds this absurd. She thinks they are too valuable and priceless to be using as everyday necessities. Instead she will hang them. These two ideas of how to use the quilts are in complete contrast of one another. Mama finds them practical, Dee finds them fashiona...
Something people might frequently worry about is self-identity, and how to express who they are. When looking for an outlet to do this, the easiest way to show what kind of person someone is, clothes are usually the first choice: a black t-shirt with a cynical saying, or maybe some skinny black jeans. Whether the advertising agencies created the personalities that come with clothes or took advantage of what was already there, clothes are often sold as something more than just clothes. Companies must ask how to convince consumers to buy their product instead of the competitors’, regardless of price difference. Particularly Levi’s jeans, a 150+-year-old American business, has been trying different approaches to packaging the type of consumers that buy their jeans.
Even though, George and Lennie try to avoid trouble, it is lured to them like pirates looking for buried treasure. Similar to this, George and Lennie encounter few conflicts at the farm including the Boss's son, Curley, and his Wife. Curley has a ‘don’t mess with me vibe’, which allows the reader to know that despite George's wishes for Lennie to keep his distance from the boss's son, (there will be a conflict between them in the near future)(conflict is brewing between them in the near future?). As for Curley’s Wife, she is trap ready to snap, and Lennie being the prey. Both of these characters foreshadow some sort of negative interaction with Lennie throughout the course of the novella.
While Gatsby receives riches and fame beyond most, but fails to become apart of the social class he truly was aiming for. He fails to get the girl he loves Daisy, and fit in with the East Egg environment she comes from because he never lived with those people and continues to be an outsider of the world. Myrtle on the other hand never achieves wealth of the first class, and continuously puts on the façade of wealthy just hoping for that reality become her truth one day. Myrtle’s constant act of dress up also addresses, especially as she shows off her dress at a party, shows the unhealthy standard of wealth the comes with American ideals and assets. This is a concept that is commonly viewed today, as designer brands have become a more commonly bought item. This can be seen as brands such as “Supreme “ have become popular, places inhabiting wealthier citizens, particularly in L.A. This brand has t-shirts for hundreds of dollars. Consumerism is constant and everywhere with the interruptive
Mr.Lauren had more dreams to fulfill. He chose the name Polo for his line of ties because the sport repsented to him a lifestyle of athletic grace and discreet elegance, an image of men who wore well-tailored, classic clothes and wore them with style. With that image in mind, Mr Lauren established Polo as a separate menswear company in 1968, producing a complete line of men's clothes. Using only the finest fabrications, Mr. Lares's menswear was distinctive, innovative, but always classic and refined. His suits blended the American Ivy League natural shoulder silhouette with the fitted shape and expensive fabrics of the best European custom tailored clothing. His shirts were all cotton, richly patterned and expertly made. This same care was, and still is, applied to every element of...
The world of fashion is not all that is seems. What we see on the outside is flashy clothes with big price tags. In actuality, if you were to be thrown into this world you would see that it is much more than just that. This is the same realization that Amy Odell had in her book, Tales From the Back Row.
She values honesty in communication and she possesses the ability to be brutally honest with someone. She will come up to me and tell me her opinion if she believes that it might benefit me in some way. Another one of her values is appearance or beauty. She will spend hours picking the perfect outfit and doing her hair and makeup to perfection. She wakes up almost two hours earlier every day before school so that she will have enough time to get ready. Some people might think that she is conceited because of the focus on her looks, but she values the time that people put into their appearance as a reflection of their dedication. Her dedication to her appearance is something that she greatly values making her deserving of praise. How many other people could do what she does? Her passion and dedication is unrivaled by any other when it comes to her looks. She believes in the fact that one should always look one’s best and she puts in the effort every day regardless of any extemporaneous situations that might
As I open my eyes to the world around me, I am blinded by the misery and the despair of people. I am subjected to seeing the lack of style exhibited. It is sinful to identify expensive blasé attire purchased for brand names that are nothing short of atrocious. In defense to this calamity, I can bring the world an extensive fashion insight, a view not a single person has tackled before. Combined textures, fabrics, and designs, undiscovered brands, form fitting and flattering attire. I can make appearances at modern and splendor fashion shows. Tying in the styles exhibited into everyday wear; combined with taste and sophistication. I can reveal different fashions for different personalities, and help people uncover their inner-character. I can inform the public of colors that look good together, and identify clothes you shouldn’t be caught dead wearing. As a fashion journalist, I will close the windows of yesterday and open doors of today and tomorrow. Identifying trends, revealing hip shops, and traveling to fashion exhibits, overpriced name brands will be replaced with glamorous st...
