These mountains were formed in the mesozoic era, when the North American plate moved northward and created mountains. It contains all three types of rock, but mostly sedimentary rock. The climate on this region of land makes it very hard for wildlife to grow and for animals to live, due to the harsh cold climates, permafrost and high latitude. For this reason, these mountains are rarely explored and tourism is very low. The Quttinirpaaq National park was established in 1988 and is known as the “top of the world”. The background history of this park is limited due to very little human presence. Tent rings and food caches give evidence that the area was visited by the ancestors of modern inuit people, or the Thule people. Hiking, dog sledding, skiing and mountain climbing are available all day long, due to the 24 hour sunshine. The best times to visit this national park is between May and August, which is when majority of the park staff are onsite and give guided tours and/or private lessons. Though this park is rarely visited due to it’s climate conditions, when tourism does occur the scenery is stunning and gives an amazing

There are 765 Wilderness areas in the United States, one of which being the John-Krebs Wilderness. The John-Krebs Wilderness is one of the smaller Wilderness areas with just below 40,000 acres, and it is located in California. This Wilderness was named after John Hans Krebs, a former congressman of California who was an activist in protecting land. The John-Krebs Wilderness contains a sweeping landscape of mountains, canyons, meadows, lakes, rushing rivers, giant Sequoia trees, and incredible diversity in vegetation. Throughout the low-elevated areas there are drought-resistant chaparral and a blue oak woodlands blanket. In the higher-elevated areas you can find mountain summits and alpine lakes, which are on the eastern boundary of the Wilderness.
Even the Antarctic area has a couple of its own arctic regions. The climate of the tundra is characterized by harsh winters. The average temperature in the tundra area is about –27 degrees. But what is even worse is the long night. At night the lowest temperature recorded was –67.36 degrees.
There are many beautiful places in this wonderful area of Oregon. In fact the whole basin was deemed a National Scenic Area. Besides the whole area there are two others natural areas that are very prominent. Among its many waterfalls Kalamath Falls is by far the most breathtaking. Not only can you enjoy the waterfall its self but also if you look hard enough you can see life happening all around you. If you travel up a lot higher you will see the natural trademark of the Pacific Northwest, Mt. Hood. With its 11,239 feet of beauty, what’s not to love? This amazing mountain is not only a natural area, but an area for recreation as well. From the river bellow to the mountains above the Columbia River Basin has a lot to offer.
Physical Geography In order to get an understanding of the geographical breakdown of Alaska, you must understand the size of the state. Alaska is 589,000 square miles in size which is roughly three times the size of California. Alaska is often thought of as a separate world within the United States, although it has many links to North America In physical geography the examples include mountain ranges (Rocky Mountain and Coastal Mountain systems), climate (arctic and sub arctic), glaciers, plant life (tundra and boreal forest), and animals (moose, raven). Alaska’s transportation linkage with the rest of North America became a reality in World War II with the completion of the Alaska Highway. One of the foremost physical features within the state is Mount McKinley. Mount McKinley is the highest mountain peak in North America. At some 18,000 feet, the base to peak rise is the largest of any mountain that is entirely above sea level. It is the main attraction of Denali National Park, and one of the most visited locations within Alaska.
There is little precipitation all year long in the Tundra. The average yearly total is 136 mm, out of which 83.3 mm is snow.
Alaska is very cold and could get colder.I don’t know how people stay there for that long there's a lot of snow and ice and the water is freezing cold probably. The wind is another thing if you’ve ever
The Alaskan wilderness is one of the most controversial topics discussed in the United States today. There are many different opinions and regulations pertaining to certain topics affecting the natural landscape of Alaska. One such topic is hunting for brown bear. While these massive animals face no current danger of being wiped out as a result of hunting, it is still a controversial and constantly debated issue. Over ninety-five percent of the United States’ brown bear resides in Alaska. Brown bears are one of the more appealing attractions for visitors to Alaska. According to the Alaskan Outdoor Journal, there are places all throughout Alaska that are designated brown bear viewing areas (Alaska Outdoor Journal, 2010). However many who come to Alaska for the brown bear don’t simply come to observe. Instead, they come for the hunt. These animals are constantly hunted for sport, and since they reproduce at a very low rate, this has the potential to jeopardize the total population of the brown bear. Overall, I believe that brown bear hunting should remain legal.
The forest is also the home of the state’s tallest peak, the 6,280’ Mount Washington. Mount Washington is the tallest peak in New England and is home to some of the worlds most dangerous weather.
