Delta offers services to a very diverse range of people. It serves business travelers to consumers who enjoy leisure flights. It’s very family friendly and ranges from all ages of people onboard. Delta flies 170 passengers a year; 82 million passengers have SkyMiles memberships. 82% of Deltas customers are between the ages 25-44. 71% are married and 32% have children. Statistically speaking over 60% of its customers graduated from college with average household incomes of over $100,000 ("Delta Sky Media," 2015).

According to Delta Airlines Annual Report, government interference can be essential to protect the passengers’ benefits and airline operations’ safety actions. Regulatory matters in the airline industry and the DOT and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have authority to issue certificates of public convenience required for airlines to provide transportation domestically. The DOT also makes sure joint venture agreements between major carriers are reconsidered and regulated. FAA manages the safety of air travel procedures mandating certificates, flight personnel and maintenance and all other events that adhere to the safety of the aircraft. The FAA also regulates airport access through allocation of slots that decide which carriers can have operations at a certain airport. During economic downturns demand for air travel is affected and consumers may choose other modes of travel. If conditions economically don’t improve overtime Delta could possibly see a financial crisis. With increased terrorist attacks the airline industry can also see a downturn due to consumers risk being increased with air travel giving it negative perceptions. If an epidemic occurs with disease this will also have a negative affect on airlines due to close exposure on planes.
