There is a red and white tent, a huge red and white tent. Inside, there are straw bales, banners, ladies in summer dresses. There are chairs and tables, long tables with tablecloths, red and white. Everything is red and white. The ladies’ dresses are red and white. The sweetheart cookies are red and white. The straw bales are yellow, and the grass is green. It is a beautiful Sunday afternoon. A man in a top hat walks from table to table, sampling each entry. His tongue cracks flaky crusts and tastes apple pie, ripe rhubarb and cran-apples, chokecherry jam. Plum jelly leaves a trail all the way down his throat. Top-hat salivates, munches and swallows. As he tastes each slice, each loaf, he feels the blue ribbon in his breast pocket, throbbing …show more content…

An overhang light illuminates a garbage barrel, its lid is shaped like a clown’s head. A little boy staggers away from the spinning tea cups and clutches the clown’s cheeks. He puts his face in the barrels great open smile. Flush. A strawberry snow cone and half a corn dog spray out through his mouth and nose. The face eats what the little boy feeds it. It receives. Little boy gives. His face is turning red now, his nose running with snot and vomit while his eyes water up and bulge out. Seconds turn into minutes and finally he is released from the experience. The little boy overhears his dad lecturing a carny who had witnessed the event. He says “that foam reminds me of the last time I drank Guinness. I spent the night with an Irish whore in Belfast and woke up in a state of sleep paralysis. I puked on my own face until I almost drowned. Lucky the whore woke up or I’d be dad for sure.” “Did you say dad?” asks the carny. “Oh, did I? Ha, I meant
It is in gaining a sense of our identity that we find a place to belong. This is presented in Episode 4, Stand Up, of the television series Redfern Now, directed by Rachael Perkins.
This use of similes and metaphors describe a scene where the author is carrying out her mission with an imaginative audience. This signifies the typical free-flying imagination of a child. And also in the line “I bask in the sun in my exalted position, almost sky-high, feeling as filly and nearly as pink as the bathers I am wearing.”, the use of adjectives and similes, the feeling of immense excitement is shown clearly to the responder. The mood and tone of the passage changes dramatically as the perspective changes in paragraph 6. The author... ...
Everything started off in Steven’s 8th grade English classroom. The topic of the day was, “The most annoying thing in the world.” So evidently, Steven wrote about his younger brother Jeffery. Jeffery was his perfect little brother; white teeth and perfect blond curls. Jeffery idolized Steven and wanted to be just like him, which lead up to the “Dangerous Pie” incident. Steven’s biggest rule with Jeffery was to never touch any of his drum stuff. But one tragic day, Steven came home to Jeffery “cooking” “Dangerous Pie” with Steven’s special drum sticks. But even after, Steven woke up early with Jeffery one morning, and being the caring brother he is, decided to make Jeffery his favorite breakfast “moatmeal.” Steven’s mother told him to never let his little brother stand on the stool
This one night at Greasy Lake wasn’t as typical as the other nights. A series of events happen at Greasy Lake that would change the narrator character after all. First after just throwing “two dozen raw eggs at mailboxes and hitchhikers” (par 4) the narrator friend Digby decides to play a practical joke on, what looks like someone he knows car, by leaning on the horn and turning the high beams on to t...
The Red Tent is organized in a seemingly complicated yet beautifully simple way. There are three main sections; Dinah's mothers' story, her childhood, and her life in Egypt. Each is further divided into chapters.
... I had never even seen most of the food displayed, I eagerly and respectfully tried each dish. After everyone in the room sat down at the massive table, the Rabbi picked up a glass of wine and made a prayer over it. Then, Rabbi Kanelsky passed around pieces of Challah bread to the entire table. This lunch festival was yet another ceremony dedicated to one of the member’s deceased relative. At the conclusion, the Rabbi said another prayer out loud for the deceased and the relative expressed his gratitude to everyone.
In the girls’ section there were lots of dolls, pink themed tricycles and scooters, princess themed Lego castles, plushy pink dolls, Cabbage Patch babies, and plenty of doll strollers. The shelves in the aisles that contained these princess dolls and toys were pink. They had...
The origin of the word myth seems to be a myth in itself. Myths have generally originated from a Greek history that used an oral tradition to explain events that occurred before the written word. Often supernatural beings or fictitious characters were used to explain popular ideas concerning phenomena's of nature or the history of people. The myths that were carried on from generation to generation were often very imaginative in an attempt to spark the interest of young listeners. These would be told at social gatherings. The main purpose of a myth was to relay historical information among groups. Early myths often dealt with the origin of man, customs, religious rights, incidents involving the lives of gods, stories of culture heroes, adaptations of old world myths, or the retelling of biblical stories.
The term race relations in its most basic definition is the relation between members or communities of different races within a community or on a larger scale a country. This term has had many definitions throughout the history of America, and people of all races have different ideas of what it means. Some groups see it as everyone being equal, while others associate it with inequality and injustice among groups. The argument for which definition is correct has been an ongoing issue of dissention t for ages and is still something that is just as important issue today.
...ngs [are] leaning against the wall”, “the vases [are] on the floor”, “the fireplace [is] in the corner”, “the love seat [is] against one wall” and “the peach couch [is facing] the window”. Therefore, at the end of the description, one, inevitably, feels a sense of familiarity with the living room as well as the narrator. As the narrator changes perspective, the audience respectively adopts the narrator’s point of view and sees and experiences events as she sees and experiences them. The same attitude, repeats in introducing the girls via the photos, as the narrator does not find it adequate to merely name the girls, she points out to their specific place within the photo. As if the reader is holding the photo, she indicate “the one to the far right is Manna”, Yassi is “the one in yellow, bending forward and bursting with laughter”, “I am the one in brown”. (p. 4)
In today’s society, it is acknowledgeable to assert that the concepts of race and ethnicity have changed enormously across different countries, cultures, eras, and customs. Even more, they have become less connected and tied with ancestral and familial ties but rather more concerned with superficial physical characteristics. Moreover, a great deal can be discussed the relationship between ethnicity and race. Both race and ethnicity are useful and counterproductive in their ways. To begin, the concept of race is, and its ideas are vital to society because it allows those contemporary nationalist movements which include, racist actions; to become more familiar to members of society. Secondly, it has helped to shape and redefine the meaning of
The American man sat at the table. He was fat, ignorant and loud. He gave off the impression that he thought he was close friends with everybody and he was liked by everybody. He wore a white shirt with short sleeves with faded floral patterns decorating the shirt. He yelled out for all to hear “Hey you! Waiter! Waiter! Uno Club Soda! Capiche?” He looked at his chunky gold watch on the inside of his forearm, 1:43 pm, he pulled a blue handkerchief out of his pocket and swiped away the beads of sweat on his forehead. The waiter returned with his drink, which he yearningly snatched to quench his thirst, another man strolled towards his table and momentarily lifted his sunglasses. They both reached into their left
Inside the nicely decorated room with taupe walls just the perfect hint of beige, lie colorful accessories with incredible stories waiting to be told. A spotless, uninteresting window hangs at the end of the room. Like a silent watchman observing all the mysterious characteristics of the area. The sheer white curtains cascade silently in the dim lethargic room. In the presence of this commotion, a sleepy, dormant, charming room sits waiting to be discovered. Just beyond the slightly pollen and dust laden screens, the sun struggles to peak around the edges of the darkness to cast a bright, enthusiastic beam of light into the world that lies beyond the spotless double panes of glass. Daylight casts a dazzling light on the various trees and flowers in the woods. The leaves of fall, showcasing colors of orange, red, and mustard radiate from the gold inviting sunshine on a cool fall day. A wonderful world comes to life outside the porthole. Colossal colors littered with, abundant number of birds preparing themselves for the long awaited venture south, and an old toad in search of the perfect log to fall asleep in for the winter.
...of chili and three spaghetti-o’s. After he had finished eating he decided that he had better get some rest, he went to bed in the small cot he found in the corner. He slept well in the warmth of the cabin, but awoke to the sound of a gasoline engine. Startled he looked around and saw a woman rekindling the fire. She saw him looking at her and told him he was ok, and that when he was ready her husband would take him back to town. She had already made coffee and some pancakes, and told him he was more than welcome to have some.
Colorism has became a huge issue in today’s society. Colorism is an issue because, it is a form of racism, it reflects back on the days of slavery, it is overall rude, and jail terms are affected.
