Real friends, how many of us? How many jealous? Real friends. It’s not many of us, we smile at each other but how many honest? Trust issues (Kanye West). The terms friend and friendship can be defined differently by all and also mean more or less to some. Common interest and history are frequently used when defining friendship. And although there is nothing wrong using either to define friendship I believe there is more to it. A friendship, for me, consist of more than history and must include support, checking up on each others well being, and honesty.
Having support is just one of the pieces in a friendship, but could arguably be the most important. Support can usually be overlooked because at times we are not aware that we are being supported if not made clear. However, what can be made clear is when support is nowhere to be found. For example, support is not shutting down the idea of your friend joining the basketball team just because he’s 5’5 and never played basketball in his life. In contrast, support would be encouraging him to play basketball and helping him achieve his goal. Another example …show more content…

Honesty can go far and is always better than holding up some lie to be truth. I know that all honesty may not be pleasing, but sometimes the truth hurts. For example, I once had a friend tell me he had talked to the girl I was seeing before we had met. Given that information, I could have chosen to be mad or stay calm, but I believe it was better that he told me than lied to me. While I might have been mad that he told me the truth, I couldn’t be mad at him for being honest. I respected that he knew how much I value honesty and knew that my priority for honesty would outweigh that of me being mad. Our friendship might have taken a turn in the wrong direction if I was to find out later but he just like me valued the friendship and were accepting of the
