In life, expectations and outcomes are two variables that one must consider in decision making. In a perfect world, expectations and outcomes mirror one another. Unfortunately, the world we live in is full of variables; favorable and unfavorable. In order to become successful, one must adapt to their reality. In the future, I aspire to be a hair stylist. One of the most important things to consider as a beauty professional is the satisfaction of the client. In order to evaluate expectations and outcomes, I carried out an experiment on my hair. I decided to color my hair. My expectation was to make my hair an aquamarine blue. I wielded myself with my tools and began the process; I mixed my color and it looked perfect! I applied the color immediately and allowed it to process for the allotted time. After processing for an hour, I shampooed as directed and allowed my hair to air dry in a towel. When expectations and outcomes don’t align; it’s important to become reflective and evaluate what went wrong and take the necessary steps to prevent the same occurrence in the future. After my episode, I realized I did not properly mix my product. I mixed more hair dye than developer, and as a result, the blue tones did not process. The second lesson is managing outcomes. I expected a mermaid-like, aquamarine color and ended up with an atrocious, pea-like color. As a beauty professional, this kind of scenario occurs more often than not. However, what defines professionalism is not only your skill level but also your ability to think on your feet and consider other alternatives. After evaluating all options, the safest and best way to move forward was to dye my hair black.
