Revenge of Death
Shakespeare has a lot of themes that surrounds his most profound play, Hamlet. Hamlet has a plot that surrounds revenge, uncertainty, and death. Although Shakespeare developed the plot well with all the action that takes place, he faulted when it came to the death of Polonius. Hamlet serves a lot of lessons that readers today can carry with them throughout life.
A ghost appears in the form of Hamlet’s father and informs him of how he really died. The ghost convinces Hamlet to avenge his death and kill Claudius. While trying to avenge his father’s death, Hamlet kills Polonius. Claudius and Laertes then plot Hamlet’s death, resulting in their own death, along with the queen and Hamlet.

“[C]onscience does makes cowards of us all”, thus making us weak (110). Hamlet is reiterating that his own mind is what is hindering himself from seeking revenge. Throughout the play, Hamlet is entangled in plotting his uncle’s death and seeking revenge for his father, that he is not capable in making rational decisions without questioning himself. Shakespeare is trying to tell the reader to not take up too much at one time so that one may think clearly and make rational decisions. To avenge his mother’s death, Hamlet stabs Claudius with the sword that Laertes poisoned. Hamlet wanted to make sure that his father and mother got the respect they deserved, therefore, he killed Claudius. The entirety of the play revolves around the idea that revenge is the only way to solve all the problems that the characters are facing. Although revenge is profound, Hamlet is overcome with death.
Hamlet obsesses over the idea of death and life after death. He is infatuated with the idea that after death all his questions will be answered and he will once and for all find out the truth. Hamlet questions whether “to die [or] to sleep” (109). Hamlet is contemplating the idea of committing suicide or if he should just life take it’s course.
“To be, or not to be, that is the question: [w]hether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer [t]he slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, [o]r to take arms against a sea of troubles, [a]nd by opposing end them”
