You’re on the stage in front of the whole classed tensed and jittery, eyes squeezed shut so unbreakably that there are shapes being stamped into the darkness. Whatever pops into your mind, you rapidly blurt out in search of what you will say next. As you walk down the path of literature, you get lost in the world of poetry. Where do you go next? Dead Poets Society directed by Peter Weir is a film that teaches teens to seize their lives, and live them while they can. This school story is teaching a valuable lesson to a group of boys who are having trouble planning out their futures. This is all changed by a unique teacher with an interactive way of teaching. Todd is pressured into meeting the high standards of his older brother, and is unsure about what he is capable of until he steps out of his comfort zone. Todd has almost changed characters throughout the movie. The choices he makes are all caused by something that sparked him to do so.

The choices Todd makes are mostly him blocking everything out. He unsure about himself, and doesn’t want to put himself out there in fear of making a mistake. His first major decision is not to speak at the meetings. He just wants to watch and listen. But he hasn’t had very many classes yet with Mr. Keating, so he doesn’t know that it’s okay to mess up, and that there’s no write or wrong answer in poetry. There’s an infinite amount of answers. ***** He also chose to stand up on stage in front of the class and tell them everything about poetry on his mind. He has the choice not to accept Mr. Keating’s way of teaching, but in a way it’s very intriguing because you don’t know what he has planned. Todd finally comes out of his shell that he’s been hiding in, and decides to take risks. This forces him to come out of his comfort zone and shows him how he should be living his life. The main focus is Todd and him needing to break away from whatever was holding him back, and starting to embrace life living everyday like it’s his last. However, by the end of the movie, Todd has finally found his true voice and realized that he can be who he wants. He learns to express himself when it really matters. He is the first student to stand on the desk for Mr. Keating. The other students follow his lead in respect of him. So the question has finally been answered. Where do you go when you’re lost in the world of poetry? You keep going. The path of life as well as poetry is ceaseless.
