The pearl harbour was one of the greatest tragedies to ever happen to the Americans, it was enough to send the united states which at the time was neutral, into world war 2 (wwII). On the pacific island of Oahu on an early Sunday morning 7.55am on 7th of December the Japanese aircraft had began a horrifying attack against the US pacific fleet. the riot caused by the attacks killed under 100 Japanese but over 2.400 Americans along with another 1.178 being injured. (source B) Japan was suffering greatly due to increased competition in Asia. Japan was struggling to get back "on top". Japan was desperate for economic growth. the Country took a major blow, mostly in terms of the trading economy. This resulted in Japan having very little resources and having to acquire new resources from Asia (china), after Japan occupied Manchuria in 1931 they became eager for a full invasion of China. There was an inherent sense of racial superiority which led Japan to believe that she had deserved the right to dominate all Asian politics. Japan planned to ship overseas to a point where their planes would reach.
The most heavily used planes was the Mitsubishi A6M Zero. The planes were the main ways of dominating the attack. Original plans were to sink battleships rather than carriers, Yamamoto believed that by shattering their battle fleet the American morale would be crushed. The attack was divided into two waves, the first wave (led by Commander Mitsuo Fuchida- source L) of the attack included 40 torpedo planes which broke down into 16. The second wave was intended to compromise 171 aircraft. Relatively small bombs carried by dive bombers were not sufficient. The first wave had a stronger impact of damage caused to the heavy ships. The second wave aircraft was finalize the destruction of American air power on …show more content…
Oahu. Within two hours of the attack, 5 battle ships had sunk, 16 were damaged and 188 aircrafts were destroyed.
According to source L, Fuchsia's recollections in 1951, an hour an forty minutes after leaving the carriers , tiny openings in the clouds cover afforded occasional glimpse of the northern shore of Oahu. After veering right towards the west coast of Oahu, the sky over pearl harbour became clear. All eight battleships were seen but there were no carriers present. Fuchsia ordered his radioman at 0749 to command an attack . Lieutenant Commander Murata's bombers flew downward to launch their torpedo's. Lieutenant Commander Itayay's fighters swept enemy fighters from the air. the first bomb falling on Wheeler Field followed by diving bombing attacks upon Hickam Field opened the attack. The approach of commander Murata was cut short and his group anchored and released torpedo's east of Ford Island. By 0800 all the enemy planes in the air had disappeared and fighters began strafing the airfields. The second bombing run was about to begin before there was a colossal explosion in the battleship row. The ships red powder magazine filled the sky with a massive column of dark red smoke which rose to 1000 metres. After the bombers had completed their runs they headed north to return to their carriers, Pearl Harbour had been completely wrecked by the fierce strafing and
bombings. In total , the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour destroyed 18 American ships and roughly 300 airplanes. about 2,500 men were killed and 1,000 were wounded. Japan failed miserably in crippling the pacific fleet and in 1940 battleships were no longer considered the most important naval vessel. The assault of pearl harbour left the base's vital onshore facilities including; storage depots, repair shops, shipyards and docks intact, which resulted in the U.S recovering from the attack really quickly. Most of the American pacific fleet was destroyed and they were unable to rescue those in need of help. American people stood behind Roosevelt when war was declared against Japan, days later. America was now 100% involved in wwII. Luckily for America they were one of the world's leaders in industrial production so they were able to rebuild their fleet fast. None of their aircraft carriers were present this resulted in the American presense in the pacific being powerful enough to fight and win the war. Done by Chere Prinloo.
War is what keeps a nation from dying, it is the backbone of a country. This is the shown throughout the course of World War I, also known as “the war to end all wars.” World War I started in the summer of 1914. Archduke Francis Ferdinand, from the Austro – Hungarian Empire was visiting Bosnia. He was shot, along with his wife, Sofia, by a young man from the Black Hand, Gavrillo Princip. What were the three main factors that started World War I? There were three main underlying causes that started World War I: greed, nationalism, and militarism.
The movie Pearl Harbor was written based on the historic event that occurred in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The movie has many inaccurate events that are misleading but overall the movie does a good job telling the historic event that occurred.
The Battle of Pearl Harbor was one of the most atrocious events that happened in U.S. history. On December 7, 1941, Japan made a surprise aerial attack on the United States naval base and airfields at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. More than two thousand Americans died and a thousand two hundred were wounded. Eighteen ships were badly damaged, including five battleships. The next day, President Franklin Roosevelt with the support of the Congress, declared war on Japan.
During the 1900’s, it was common for people to immigrate to America. They saw it as a land of freedom and opportunity. Some thought that this was a great way for the US’ economy to boom, but some thought otherwise. With the shortage of jobs, many believed that the immigrants were stealing their precious jobs. Because of the competition over jobs, immigrants became the new public enemy to many. Immigrants such as the Japanese. The Japanese had already been through some racial discrimination, but it wasn’t until World War II that it got much worse. During the war the US decided it was best to be neutral, but the longer the war went on for, The more the US’ neutrality was on the verge of breaking. It wasn’t until December 7, 1941, that the US
The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was one of the most atrocious attacks to have ever happened on American soil, starting with disagreement on the Potsdam declaration. Japan’s greed for more land and industrial materials led the Japanese to make a plan to keep the United States out of the war, which consisted the use of kamikaze pilots and bombs to destroy our aircraft carriers and boats in an attempt to control the Pacific. While leaving the drowning, and dead bodies of thousands of American seamen and battleships at the bottom of the sea, seemed to be a good idea to the Japanese; America joined World War II and introduced the first nuclear weapons as reprisal for the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Had the Japanese agreed to an unconditional surrender and end to militarism during the agreement on the Potsdam declaration, the introduction to nuclear weapons and the death count wouldn’t have been so high and devastating on both the American and Japanese sides.
The attacks on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 were the first attacks ever to take place on American soil, the repercussions were devastating for the Japanese Empire; sadly, Pearl Harbor would not be the last threat America faced on her own land. On September 9th, 2011 (9/11) a radical Islāmic terrorist group known as Al-Qaeda attacked America. While America dealt with both of these attacks with unyielding resolve, executing that resolve was what is starkly different between the two tragedies. Pearl Harbor did have some quintessential similarities to 9/11; both attacks unprovoked by America, both provoked public support against aggressors by way of presidential speeches, both lacked prior intelligence on the attacks themselves, both sparked
Admiral Fletcher commanded the U.S.S. Yorktown before it was sunk by the Japanese. Then at 0750, Japan spots nine enemy (American) planes fifteen miles out. Tones, a Japanese cruiser, opened fire on the American pilot. Almost instantly, if an American bomber plane were hit, it would explode and go down. The bombers dropped their torpedoes far from their targets, so the torpedoes didn’t land a single blow to Japan.

It’s a beautiful sunny morning, on a tropical island that everyone would love to take a vacation at. It’s approximately 6:00 am, December 7, 1941, when a first group of 181 kamikaze planes attacked; targeting key naval bases stationed at Hawaii; a sustained crippling of U.S. naval forces for about 6 months. The death toll was 2,500. Out of the 9 battleships, 8 were heavily damaged by the assault on Pearl Harbor and out of the 8, three were unrepairable, USS Arizona, USS Oklahoma, and the USS Utah. 160 aircrafts were put out of commission, and nearly 130 were heavily damaged. This was the first incident in which there was an act of war, committed on U.S. soil, outside of the American Revolution and the Civil War. The world was at war, and the U.S. remained neutral until now. Before the attack, the U.S. was in great debate whether to enter the war or to stay out of it. The act of war forced the U.S. into the War and triggered a controversial debate in whether to retaliate against Japan with the use of nuclear arms.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) described Pearl Harbor as “a day that will live in infamy”. On the morning of December 7th, 1941, over 350 Japanese attack planes, bombers, and torpedo planes in two different waves took off from several different battle ships in the Pacific Ocean, all with the same destination: Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii. Since most American Soldiers were off-duty for the current day, it would be a relatively easy task for the Japanese Attackers. The attack was intended as a preventive action in order to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with military actions the Empire of Japan was planning in Southeast Asia against overseas territories of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the United States. There were simultaneous Japanese attacks on the U.S.-held Philippines and on the British Empire in Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong. All eight U.S. Navy Battleships were damaged, with four being sunk. All but one was later raised, and six of the eight battleships returned to service and fought in the war. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed; 2,402 Americans were killed and 1,282 wounded. The attack forced America into joining World War II and FDR into carrying out Executive Order 9066.
At almost eight o’clock in the morning in the island of Oahu, Hawaii the day of Infamy began. December 7th, 1941 was one of the most devastating attacks on American soil. The day of Infamy, or more commonly known as Pearl Harbor, was an attack on American soil from the Imperial Army. This attack was the final burst of the tension that had been built up between the United States and Japan. To understand the tragic attack it is important to understand the events leading up to it. The United States unrest with Japan started in 1937 through the invasion of Manchuria which began the Second Sino-Japanese War. Japan launched a full scale invasion of the Republic of China. The tension between Franklin D Roosevelt and Japan was initiated with

Attack on Pearl Harbor was a very tragic event in US history. The Japanese kept on pushing North Americas buttons. When the Japanese occupied Manchuria that really ticked off North America, it was a very bad move by the Japanese, FDR was not very happy with Japan’s aggression against the Chinese. In result FDR froze all raw materials going to Japan. Oil was the biggest export material going into Japan, taking that away really shook Japan’s economy. Japan really planned and implemented the attack on Pearl Harbor. United States was caught off guard by the bombing. United States was really shaken up by the whole thing. We weren’t expecting such a thing from the Japanese. United States eventually joined the Allied Forces with World War 2. The US really taught the Japanese a lesson they needed to learn.
