Casinos need to be held accountable for gamblers. Commercial casinos in America won 66.5 billion off of gambling in 2023 and with tribal owned casinos that number goes up to over $100 billion. Casinos make ridiculous amounts of money off of gambling, while there are many people who struggle with gambling addiction all over the world. Casinos need to be held accountable for those who become addicted to gambling and are losing life altering amounts of money in the establishments. The odds to win are much lower, which is unfair to the gamblers and also needs to be addressed. A good example of this is the story of David Williams, who was a tax auditor. Less than a year later, he was back and gambled away $20,000 more of his money and would get a letter telling him to come try gambling. He was eventually kicked out of the casino, but it was much too late as he had lost nearly everything. He then sued the casino and lost as he had claimed they did not do their job in keeping him from coming and gambling more. This case shows that both the government and casinos need to be held accountable for gamblers losing live altering sums of money because they knew he was a problem gambler and continued to send him mail telling him to come back and allow him to continue even when they knew the influence it had on him. Casinos have too much protection on them and should not be allowed to advertise gambling because of the negative effects it has on some people. Compulsive gambling destroys so many lives. Gambling in itself is so similar to drug or alcohol use in that the brain sees it as a reward when gambling whether or not you win or lose.
