Dairy Products: An Important Source of Calcium
Out of the sources of calcium available, dairy products most aptly provide the necessary calcium with the least amount of side effects. Using dairy products as a calcium source cuts out the need to research which type of calcium is being supplied because all dairy products contain elemental calcium (Got Calcium?). A benefit of elemental calcium is an increased ability to gauge how much calcium is being absorbed (Calcium Supplemental Guidelines). This is because the elemental calcium in dairy products is more easily absorbed (Got Calcium?) Dairy products’ calcium is also less susceptible to complications with other ingested substances such as food or medications (National Osteoporosis Foundation). Removing these possible complications also removes some of the concern of short-term health risks associated with calcium. Studies have also indicated that elemental calcium does not increase some long-term health risks as calcium citrate or calcium carbonate (which are both found in calcium supplement pills) might (Harvard School of Public Health). All of these benefits make dairy products a safe and reasonable choice for supplying calcium needs.
There are many types of calcium available, and with all of them a certain amount should be ingested each day. Though calcium requirements vary by age and gender, the average person needs about 1000 mg of calcium a day (Nutrition). This helps to keep up with bone growth and repair, and keep up with the loss of calcium through shed materials (National Osteoporosis Foundation). ...without an abundance of time to carefully watch calcium intake and calcium safety, dairy provides the best option. It is a reliable source that can be easily attained without much variation and will dependably be ingested.

Schools are beginning to adapt more to the variety of students needs in the classroom. Co-teaching is one of the methods schools and teachers are using to reach more students. It got originally noticed in 1960s but didn’t become popular and supported till 1990s (Villa). Co-teaching is when the general education teacher is working along side another professional. They could be a special education teacher, ESL teacher, a reading specialist, or any other professional that could assist in creating a coordinated curriculum for a diverse classroom. Both the general education teacher and the other professional will plan the coordinated curriculum and instructions that will be used in the general education classroom (Vaughn pg. 79).
Consuming the recommended calcium intake everyday- differs between ages but on average is approximately 1000 milligrams.
Now, when considering whether one wants to prevent or treat Osteoporosis, it does not mean cutting yourself off from foods with small portions or extreme dieting. It is a common misconception that when a person wants to be healthy they must eat in smaller portions, and while this does have some truth, one must consider when it comes to eating healthy, it means to eat healthy by adding nutritious portions of fruits, vegetables, protein, carbs, and of course, calcium intake for the bones in one’s diet. Also, one must not deprive themselves of having a “cheat day” once a week with chips and candy. But it is a good start to begin adding calcium to fortified foods and supplements, such as milk. People should at least aim for 1,000 to 1,200 milligrams a day of calcium.

Milk is a common drink at any time of the day, and undeniably one of the most popular. Milk does not come in just a liquid form, it is also included in many different foods. When asked about milk most people will say it is good for your bones, supplies calcium, and comes from a cow. Although milk does give the body calcium which allows less to be absorbed from the bones, pasteurization takes out many other vitamins that could help the body (Historical). This includes thiamine, vitamin B12, and vitamin C. And actually while all milk is based on the original look of cows milk, not all milk comes from cows. Nutrition plays a significant role in the development of osteoporosis. Collaborative learning is a situation where two or more people attempt to learn something together. Dillenbourg, P. (1999). Lev Semenovich Vygotsky, (born in 1986), introduced his theory that, human development—child development as well as the development of all human kind—is the result of interactions between people and their social environments. What this states is that the development of a “higher education” is the product of comparing and contrasting ideas of others ultimately to conclude a solution to a problem as a whole or group. Everyone’s input in a collaborative situation will play a role in final solution.
