Daelyn Rice has tried many times before to commit suicide and knows that this time she is going to get it right. She ends up finding a website called www.through-the-light.com, a website for “completers”. But the website requires her to wait 23 days before she can kill herself. While she waits for the day to come she meets a boy named Santana. She hasn’t had a true friend her whole life and she doesn’t want to have one now, especially when she’s this close to finally dying. This book takes place in a modern time. There are a few characters in this book. One summer her parents sent her to a fun camp that was supposed to help her lose weight. But it wasn’t fun and she did lose weight, but in a terrible way. They feed the campers very little and made them do different kinds of exercise constantly. When they got to call home a person would sit near the phone and make sure they didn’t tell their parents the truth. Finally one day a child was so overworked that he died and all the campers got to go home. After many more years of bullying Daelyn tried to kill herself unsuccessfully. The last time she tried to kill herself, she damaged her throat and vocal cords and all of her food has to be put in a blender for her to eat, which ended up with her losing a lot of weight and finally being skinny. But now she gets made fun of for her neck brace. And now that she has found www.through-the-light.com she finally has made a plan to kill herself. Santana is a boy who lives across the street from Daelyn’s Catholic school and always goes to talk to her while she’s waiting for her parents. He had Hodgkin's lymphoma, a type of cancer that he almost died from earlier in life and now it's back. Kim and Chip are Daelyn’s parents who are constantly worried about what she’s doing and are on a 24/7 suicide watch, unaware of the website she is using on her computer because it is untraceable. For example, you find out in the beginning that she wears a neck brace and isn’t able to talk, but it isn’t until towards the end that you find out it’s because she drank ammonia and bleach so she could die, but she didn’t die and ended up melting her vocal cords and destroying her esophagus. But one part of the book that I did not like was that it didn’t give you an ending and you don’t know whether or not she actually did it. But other than that, I think the book and the plot were great and Julie Anne Peters did a great job with telling this
