Curveball Research Paper

Ever wonder why a curveball or slider moves how it does. This is a very important pitch as it can cause the hitter to react as if it is a fastball but will then break away from the barrel of the bat. There are many things that go into making these pitches move.
One would be the arm and wrist action of the pitcher, the pitcher moves their elbow and wrist downward toward the ground when they throw. William Cummings once said that the key to a good curveball is the sharp twist of the wrist at the end. The spin that is put on the ball will cause it to slice through the air differently than most pitches, this will change where the pitch will end up after a short period of time. A ball thrown without this spin may end up a foot higher than the curveball.
