HBO is known for its originality and as stated on Merriam-Webster.com, the definition of a sitcom is, “a show that is on television regularly and that is about a group of characters who are involved in different funny situations”. According to Lisa Williamson, author of Challenging Stcom Conventions, HBO’s original comedies “do not look like sitcoms” and “complicate the notion of genre” whole acting “as a badge of prestige that helps differentiate the show from the network competitors”. However, the series Curb Your Enthusiasm has been nominated for four Emmys in 2008 and one of the nomination being, outstanding comedy series. She has confirmed in many interviews that she does improvise when it comes to her Spanish language in the shows, she says that the director told her “say what you want in Spanish since you're the expert here”. The series Curb Your Enthusiasm is shot on location and in sequence using handheld digital cameras, Lisa states that ,“such techniques undermine the distinction between sitcom and documentary and blur the boundaries between the comic and serious” but once again the series Modern Family is shot in studios but also shot on location. Acting wise would be how Larry is wearing really ugly and old clothing to work out and is judged by the ladies working at the jewelry store who don't end up giving him the opportunity to enter their store because they think he is a homeless man. Larry is also seen running through the streets with a suit and once again is not let inside the store because he fumbles around his friend right in front of the jewelry ladies. The most historical scene in this episode was when Richard tells Larry, “how can you not help a blind man” and Larry responds by saying, “how can you say a blind man in front of a blindman”. This show without a doubt is to be considered a sitcom because it provides the audience with issues that many might encounter in their life and how they can actually relate to them which can make the whole situation laughable. An observation I made while watching the show was that the background music is very upbeat and in some cases the music sounds like the type of music a circus would play. According to Lisa Williamson one reason why Curb Your Enthusiasm is not to be considered a sitcom is because the program approaches a dock-real in terms of visual aesthetics. Never have I witnessed documentaries that have “circus” music playing in the background. Aesthetic wise, one can argue that the show Modern Family is relatable to Curb Your Enthusiasm in the fact that both shows portray the everyday
