Introduction
Within the public safety field policy outcome is very important, because if the workers cannot abide by the policies that are set in place, then the organization will have no direction and it will not survive. But, what could cause this to happen? There are many things that can cause policies to fail (e.g., biases) or lack of understanding another person’s culture etc. Since we live in a world that is extremely diverse it is our job as leaders to make sure that this does not become an issue for us. But where would they obtain such data? Well, from a number of places, but we will consider two of them which are, the FBI: National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) and the FBI Uniform Crime Report (UCR). Are they really that important? Yes, because they gather information of criminal activities, race and culture, but only if they are combined which as of now they are not, and separately they lack certain information, for example particular age groups or races. When there is an array of diverse groups or culture biases and personal culture can infiltrate the work and community environment. Sometimes it is good and the majority of the time it is bad. The public safety organization works within the community and protect them as well, but if they cannot get along and influence bad behavior continuously which is not good work the community. So, can they find some common ground? Yes, but it will involve meeting with the community leaders first. Listing to complaints from citizen in the community, and finding a non-bias group to here both sides and work on a plan that will build trust and respect once again, especially if it involves African Americans or other minority groups that believe the system does not care what they think. They also need to know that the neighborhood that they serve can endanger them doing their job if they cannot find any type of common
