The current global economy has not only increased the supply of ample products based on consumers’ demands, but it has also increased competitiveness among the companies to spread their influence over the international market. The strategy used by the companies to stand out more than the others is by fortifying the element of Corporate Social Responsibility in their organization. At Starbucks Corporation, we have always given major importance to our CSR strategies and the impact of our projects in the process of betterment of the community. It is our goal to not only be the world’s renowned coffee brand, but to also be the organization that implements the sense of ethical and sustainable business practices into each and every one of our business partners and our employers. The essence of Starbucks and its caffeinated beverages subsidiaries lies in the quality of the materials used mainly coffee. We are focused on purchasing 100 percent morally sourced espresso in collaboration with Conservation International. In 2015, Starbucks focused on employing 10,000 youths by 2018. According to the Fortune 500, Walmart was ranked number 1 in 2015. Just like any other superstore Walmart needs to continue the use of social responsibility by recreating a relationship between business and the community especially if they want to dominate the competition in 2016. Currently, they own 21,000 stores in 65 different countries of the world, and their passion for the great coffee, excellent service and community interaction exceeds cultures and languages (Starbucks, 2014). This company is the number 1 brand coffeehouse chain in the world due to the best roaster, marketer and seller of speciality coffee. Its main slogan: “Our mission: to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighbourhood at a time” (Jurevicius, 2013).
Most obviously, community is about people. Starbucks not only connects consumers with their company, but addresses the lifecycle of community from start to finish, starting with the farmers that grow their coffee, to the customers that drink it in their stores. In my opinion, one reason for their immense success has been their ability to communicate their mission to their customers, and allow their customers to feel like they are part of the mission.
