Beautiful, this is the word everyone uses to describe the sport of croquet. The rich and powerful history of this sport is one reason it is beautiful yet very exciting. The American Croquet Association was created in 1987 and is still raging with high spirits like a crazy train. Even though the sport of croquet is one of the most physical and mental sports of them all, there is obviously physics involved within the sport. Most people think that golf is related in physics to this game, but as this article explains “[S]ince a croquet ball is far heavier than a golf ball, the twisting effect is even greater when a croquet ball is hit off-centre. Other calculations have shown that a croquet ball hit firmly about one inch off centre will exert a turning force equivalent to about a half-tonne weight pressing against the mallet face at that point”(Impact).The balls are different so most of the physics are different too. This isn’t the only thing that is different from golf in physics as this source stated, “[I]n the game of golf, the duration of the impact between clubhead and ball has a practically constant value of about 0.5 milliseconds. The steady value which occurs in a full shot at tennis is rather longer than this due to the 'give' of the strings of the racquet, but even so it is still very short and does not exceed 5 milliseconds”(Impact). The Physics of the Curve Ball Dad said that one of these days I would figure it out, but to this day I am still clueless. I have always been able to throw a decent curve ball; you don’t just throw 6 one hit games in your high school career without one. I have always wondered why and how the ball curves through the air, and it wasn’t until now that I have really had the chance to research a topic that has puzzled me for so long. I would bet that even pitchers in the “Big show” don’t know how or why, but they obviously have the talent and ability. I don’t know when the first curveball was thrown or who threw it, but there is a lot of controversy out there about whether or not the curveball really exists.
Pitching a ball both fast and accurate is more difficult than it may seem. These factors all depend on how the pitcher controls his body, or how well his mechanics all come together. This is a big reason why people started looking into, and studying, Biomechanics. Biomechanics is the study of the human body and how it moves. Biomechanists take advancements in engineering and mechanics and apply them to see what effects they have on the body and how they can improve production.
It is a sporting equipment and as such we can easily connect it with fun and competition, it also has holes drilled for the fingers, which leads to a better grip, more control. On the other hand, it is heavy, thus it is something that wants to get away from you, it is hard to hold control of it, it needs those holes drilled if we want to somewhat control it.
The legendary beginnings of golf in the United States can be traced back to the mid-1600s. One of the first published references to golf in America was in 1659 referring to the ban on golf in the streets of Albany, New York. The next substantial reference to the game comes from Charleston, North Carolina in 1786. At that time, a local Charleston newspaper ran a story about the formation of the Harleston Green Golf Club. The Harleston Green remained in operation for approximately twenty-five years, closing about the time of the War of 1812. Around the same time period, approximately1795, another golf club opened in Savannah, Georgia. References to this golf club continued until 1811 again apparently closing just before the beginning of the war. The War of 1812 served to destroy the desire to play golf. It wasn’t until the late 1870s, well after the Civil War ended, that there was a resurgence of golf in the United States.

The sport that also just started out as a way to mess around has become a job for some of the people and is making some golfers millions of dollars each year. A sport that many people spend their whole lives playing or watching used to not be exactly what is today. Even though golf is a very well known sport now, golf has been around for hundreds of years and is played by people all over the world. The sport of golf has been dated all the way back to years before 1,000 and has kept growing exponentially ever since. According to the International Golf Federation, they have 144 different countries a part of the organization, leaving out 51.
