Critical and creative thinking are fundamental to human intellectual progress and artifacts thereof (Dewey, Elder, Csikszentmihalyi, Rosenman, & Gero, 2012). Critical and creative thinking are considered higher levels of thought because while it is believed that critical thinker primarily uses the left-brain and a creative thinker primarily uses the right-brain, both types of thinkers tend to think outside the box, but in different ways. There is no direct link between critical and creative thinking, but they each have different dimensions of thought that are used. Critical thinking is convergent thinking, creative thinking is divergent thinking.
Critical thinking is a process used when reflecting and judging ideas and efforts, whether they be our own or others. Critical thinkers generally think outside the given and beyond the obvious in order to look deeper into thoughts and ideas in an effort to better analyze and understand them. Critical thinkers are logical in thought, while at the same time utilize the ability to make strong conclusions. Critical thinking involves examining possibilities carefully, fairly, and constructively—focusing your thoughts and actions by organizing and analyzing possibilities, refining and developing the most promising possibilities, ranking or prioritizing options, and choosing certain options (Treffinger, 2008). Critical thinkers assess, classify, interpret, identify and categorize during their thought process.
Creative thinking is a process is one that is more mental than logical. Creative people make more use of their mental raw material and practice less intellectual regulation (Baumgartner, 2013). In the creative thinking process, there is a lack of seriousness and more playfulness during ...

In conclusion, critical and creative thinking can be used separately or collaboratively, depending on the situation or decision that is being made. Some people by nature are critical thinkers and rarely use the creative thinking process, while the same applies for creative thinkers in rarely using the critical thinking process. I used both collaboratively in order to make an important decision to move from one state to another, but it these methods of thinking/reasoning can be used in a vast variety of ways and methods. Critical thinking is the skills needed to see parallels, comprehend intersections, identify problems, and develop sustainable solutions… while creative thinking is how ideas are defined (Burgess, 2010).
Critical thinking provides an opportunity to explore the positive and negative sides of an argument for and against an idea, theory or notion. Reasoning and perception is attuned to personal impression and provides outcome to belief and opinion.
The author Vincent Ruggiero defines critical thinking in his book Beyond Feelings: A Guide to Critical Thinking, as a “search for answers, a quest.” It is the idea that one does not accept claims, ideas, and arguments blindly, but questions and researches these things before making a decision on them. From what I learned in class, critical thinking is the concept of accepting that there are other people and cultures in this world that may have different opinions. It is being able to react rationally to these different opinions.
Questions are something that must be asked and can be very important when reading a literary work, watching a movie, or just simply trying to understand the habits of people today. Asking questions opens up the human brain to dig farther and deeper into the meaning of why someone did something in a specific way and what purpose it has that something must be done in that way. Critical thinking is asking question and trying to hypothesize on what the answer to that question might be. Critically thinking is a healthy aspect of opening up the brain and will improve one’s thought process on how to apply critical thinking in situations where it is dependent, like a future
...is a wide umbrella that cannot be acquired simply by creative and critical thinking. In certain cases like literature, only one of them is enough with the help of reasoning. It depends on the subjects whether creative or critical thinking leads to a influential or the amalgamation of the two like in the natural sciences. Knowledge can be generated from these two but only to a certain extent because none of these would work without reasoning or perception. Newton’s creativity required perception and to understand music emotions are to be understood. Therefore thinking is not the only way to acquiring knowledge.
In chapter two of the book Learning to Think Things Through by Gerald M. Nosich includes many different elements of reasoning that are associated with critical thinking. In order to think critically two standards must be met, one being that the thinking has to be reflective and second reflective thinking must meet high standards. There are numerous concepts for critical thinking, but they are grouped into eight categories. The concepts differ from each other while other may overlap. By implementing the different concepts, it can result in reliable and trustworthy thinking.
Critical thinking is the process in which one challenges their emotive, self-centered way of thinking. It causes one to test their own assumptions and question their reasoning. Critical thinking is the process in which one mentally explores deeper than the superficial matters at hand into the deeper layers in order to find out what the real issues are. Successful critical thinking is a process that allows one to creatively problem solve, seek innovative solutions, and essentially "think outside of the box." It also allows one to become more open minded to various situations. Logic and perception both play a role in critical thinking. However, when it comes to weighing their beneficial impact on the critical thinking process, logic and perception are by no means equal. While logic is firmly rooted in reason, perceptions are just as firmly rooted in one's senses, and can easily be corrupted. Therefore, perception is certainly not reality. This is a lesson that I had the opportunity to have reinforced in a recent in-house promotion at work.
In order for a knower to gain an ample amount of knowledge, then they must have balanced interactions of critical and creative thinking. A knower uses critical thinking when they are analyzing, observing, applying, synthesizing, or evaluating ideas. When the knower uses creative thinking, they are using their knowledge to develop solutions, and express them-self with original ideas. For a knower to generate new ideas, they must be able to apply what they know, and then synthesize the idea. Without the dueling interaction between critically and creatively thinking, then knowledge can’t be attained to its fullest potential.

Knowledge is generated through the interaction of critical and creative thinking because one counterbalances the two to make sure the other is foul proof and make sense and to end with a totality of diverse options.
The relationship between critical thinking and decision-making is much closer than what most people think. Once you look at the meanings of critical thinking and decision-making individually then you can see the relationship between them.
Knowledge is generated through critical and creative thinking. Creative thinking is something new or original that is created with value. Critical thinking is a type of thinking that questions assumptions and validates or invalidates a current belief or something that is said to be previously true. Knowledge is created through the culmination of generally accepted assumptions and creativity. How do you separate general assumptions and creativity? These two types of thinking can be easily separated in regards to concrete or realistic ideas compared to abstract or original ideas however to generate new, acceptable knowledge critical and creative thinking must interact together. The questioning of established beliefs with the creation of unorthodox new ideas will expose the most beneficial knowledge for the world.
None of us think critically all the time. Well-cultivated thinkers communicate effectively among others in solving complex problems and other matters in question. In short, creative and critical thinking is all about ones’ self (self corrective, self discipline, self directed).
Central to decision making, critical thinking includes the understanding of changing situations, arriving at quantifiable justifiable conclusions, making sound judgments, while applying the learned experience. Critical and creative thinking are the basis for developing approaches to solve complex, ill-structured problems. Developing these skills is critical to positioning oneself for levels of higher responsibility.
Critical thinking means accurate thinking in the search of appropriate and dependable knowledge about the world. Another way to describe it is sensible, insightful, responsible, and skillful thinking that is focused on deciding what to believe or do. Critical thinking is not being able to process information well enough to know to stop for red lights or whether you established the right change at the supermarket.
Critical thinking a strong and powerful way to use the brain, it is used by millions everyday some without knowledge that they are even using it. Critical thinking according to Diane Halpern as " The use of those cognitive skills or strategies that increase the probability of a desirable outcome...thinking that is purposeful, reasoned and goal directed - the kind of thinking involved in solving problems, formulating inferences, calculating likelihoods, and making decisions when the thinker is using skills that are thoughtful and effective for the particular context and type of thinking task. Critical thinking is sometimes called directed thinking because it focuses on a desired outcome." Halpern (1996).
