My understanding of Criminology is that it is the study of criminals and the crimes they commit, but I am not fully aware of the background or procedures that are taken when involved with a criminal. I say this, because I have only been in three criminal justice classes, including this one, and believe it takes years to be able to fully understand the full extent of this term “criminology.” The three components of the criminal justice system are Law Enforcement, Courts, Corrections, and Victim Services (which Professor Abernathy from Central Methodist University use to say.) I believe that each of these parts are interesting in the criminal justice system, because without law enforcement we would not be able to maintain order in our society. Since the beginning of time, people have been committing crime, small to large. The more we study the behavior of these offenders the more we are understanding their thinking process, why they committed the crime, which groups are more likely to be offenders, and perhaps a way to reverse their concept of right or wrong. We should definitely look to understand these criminals and the reasons for their crimes. Punishing someone that does something wrong should send a message to that individual that what they did was no acceptable. An smaller example would be if a children on purpose tripped another child at a playground. Adults, teachers, volunteers (like myself) would have to tell that specific child that what they did was wrong and would punish them by making them sit out, but also have them apologize to the other child, which in many ways would be like corrections and recovery for offenders. Without telling these criminals the crime they committed they will not fully understand how it is not acceptable in society and then simply would never change to becoming a better part of
