American Journalist, Nicholas Kristof once said, “inequality causes problems by creating fissures in societies, leaving those at the bottom feeling marginalized or disenfranchised”. Inequalities are a global problem and still are very relevant in today's society. Social inequalities such as: crime, gender, and globalization all contain inequalities which creates a barrier between our society which invokes a social divide. Studies show that income inequality and crime in fact correspond which eachother. The gap between a country’s richest and poorest income earners in fact have larger impact on crime rates (Maher). Countries with higher income gaps have lower levels of social trust and higher rates of crime including violent crime. Income inequality affects social social inequality. Though their findings on the effects of average income levels are contradictory, all authors find a significant crime-inducing impact of unemployment and income inequality (Lederman, Daniel and Fajnzylber). Countries with higher levels of income inequality also have higher levels of imprisonment and longer sentences. On average, women continue to earn considerably less than men. In 2015, female full-time, year-round workers made only 80 cents for every dollar earned by men, a gender wage gap of 20 percent (Institute for Women's Policy). Women, on average, earn less than men in nearly every single occupation. In middle-skill occupations, workers in jobs mainly done by women earn only 66 percent of workers in jobs mainly done by men.
