Race and crime is a major topic in today’s world because it is a highly debated subject and has a major impact on how society is today. Race and crime go hand in hand. No matter who commits a crime, there is always a race involved. With race and crime there are many stereotypes that come with the subject. Race and crime are both active matters in everyday life. It is everywhere. Social Media involves race and crime in practically anything. If one is active on say for example twitter, the point of twitter is to keep your followers interested by what you are showing them. They both wanted to know why crime had increased so greatly in the 1960’s. Cohen and Felson then divided all crime in three major categories. Cohen and Felson “argued that crime events required three minimal elements to converge in time and space: (1) an offender who was prepared to commit the offense; (2) a suitable target, such as a human victim to be assaulted or a piece of property to be stolen; and (3) the absence of a guardian capable of preventing the crime. The lack of any of these three elements, they argued, would be sufficient to prevent a crime event from occurring”("Routine Activities Theory (Criminology Theories) IResearchNet," n.d.). The Routine Activities Theory is a theory of crime events. It breaks down each crime and scenario to depict what a true crime is. This relates to race as well because race has a lot to do with crime. Again it does not matter what color you are, or what crime you commit, a crime is a crime and their is no other way to put it. Of course with the three major steps in the Routine Activity Theory, you can attempt to help prevent it. Personally I believe the presence of another guardian is the most important. It gives a vulnerable person a chance to dodge crime if there are more than one person. I personally have experienced help from a manager who I now understand was the guardian at the time and it has now affected me in a way that I had not seen before. The Routine Activity Theory is very impactful especially in today’s high tech society and it could help decrease the crime rate even
