Frost paused to look at Wolf and Leopard, then turned back to the remaining Iraqis, firing his weapon in three-round controlled bursts. More Republican Guard appeared, surrounding the lone Wolf-Pack soldier. Frost's rifle clacked, empty. He pulled out his Sig P228 pistol and continued to fire. A grenade exploded one meter away; Frost tumbled through the air, and landed unmoving. The video paused on his body, the frames unmoving. "And that's all we have," Brigadier Richardson stated. Alexander continued to stare at the screen, his heart racing, half-expecting the video to come to life and show Frost and Wolf picking up Leopard to limp off the battlefield together. For four years Alexander had trained and led them, growing to respect them. …show more content…
He had failed them, hadn't prepared them enough. He should have been a part of their mission briefing, rectified any flaws in their plans and fixed them faster. Oliver reached over and tapped the Brigadier's keyboard. The video blanked and faded away. Richardson shot the Staff Corporal a glare, but Oliver ignored him. "Drone surveillance by the 1st Ranger Battalion shows that Tikrit has been abandoned, the General said. "The Iraqi forces withdrew due to concentrated fire from the United States 3rd Infantry Division and casualties sustained in fighting Wolf-Pack." "Just to clarify," Alexander whispered, and then he paused to clear his throat. "There were no survivors of Operation SUNFIRE?" "It is regrettable." The Lieutenant General said with the slightest regret noticeable in his voice. "But we would do it again if presented with a similar opportunity, Major. Such a high-level meeting within striking distance of our forces would have ended this war with a few days. And while they failed to achieve the objectives of their mission, your men and women are heroes." Ashes. That was all Alexander felt. He glanced at Oliver. There was no emotion on his face. The man held his pain well. "I understand, sir." Alexander
Brigadier Hatfield spoke softly. “If that report goes forward from here you’ll be in a bad way- at least returned to Canada for Adjutant General’s disposal, some second-rate kind of discharge, the reputation always clinging to you…” The Brigadier shook his head. “That would be a pity”
The Battle of Takur Ghar, or Roberts Ridge, as it’s more affectionately called by members of the US military, occurred on March 3-4th 2002. Takur Ghar translates from Pashto as “Tall Mountain”. The battle became the most memorable part of a much larger operation called Anaconda.
We can learn from this battle that the principles of war are in fact important and careful consideration needs to be taken to make sure that they are not overlooked. It is important not to rely on lightly armed ground forces but also coordinate air forces when given the chance to maximize massing effects. And the unity of command in order to direct all forces to a unified goal.
The Battle of Hastings saw the clash of two military systems. The Saxon army, centred on the King’s personal bodyguard of “housecarles", comprised the universal levy, the “Fyrd", led by the local leaders of each shire with their households. The Third stood behind and were paid during the way when other housecarls were slained.
“It was all my fault this time. Form your ranks again when you get back to cover. We want all good men to hold together now.” –Robert E. Lee to George Pickett and J.J Pettigrew after the failed charge. (Battle of Gettysburg- summary and facts).
...ht point was General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker establishing a Joint Strategic Assessment Team. Its mission was to review the strategic environment, assess the campaign plan, and recommend adjustments to it. General Petraeus lamented that the results of their first report were a bit disheartening, but he pushed the results to Secretary Gates, so the civilian leadership understood the situation on the ground. At that time, everyone needed an unbiased dose of reality.
David drops his head down once again. He looks through his scope and sees the crosshairs slowly dropping down on Spitfire and slowly squeezes the trigger. Grrrrrrrrrrr! Bang!!!!!!! At first David didn't know what hit him harder, the crack of the Remington .308 or the deadly blow of Scar’s massive paw.
“Just stop, we both know that they need your strength, and more importantly your heart. I’m done for I was hit,” Nerrek lifted up his coat, blood was trickling out, “It’s deep, we don’t have time to patch it up”
There is always something missed or forgotten, and this mission was no different. There were Allied soldiers killed, wounded, and several pieces of equipment destroyed. For example, an American C-130 was making a pass to destroy Iraqi Forces, and was shot down by an Iraqi SAM. When the C-130 got hit by the SAM it killed the 14 crew members that were on the plane. But other than the casualties and destroyed equipment, the take back of Khafji was successful. The Allied Forces were able to push the Iraqi Forces out of Khafji, and were able to retake the city. This battle proved to show how Desert Storm would be fought, and showed that it would be in the Allied Forces’
Even though Winters knew he would not land in the correct section of the beach, he leaped out of his burning airplane under heavy fire from the Germans who were hidden behind gun emplacements on the Normandy beaches. At one o'clock in the morning, Winters alighted at the outskirts of Ste. Mère-Eglise. During the distressing drop he had lost his gun, but with fortitude, he collected a handful of men from Easy Company as well as a number of other paratroopers who had lost their units, and he proceeded to bring them towards their original destination. Later that day, the men were stopped due to a battery of Germans who were shooting 105mm howitzers and preventing anyone from crossing the causeways from Utah Beach. With 13 men, Winters led the attack against about 50 Germans This anecdote is just one of the many actions of Winter during that time in France. By destroying the German guns positioned at Brécourt Manor, who were raining down fire on the Americans struggling off Utah Beach, he saved myriad lives as well as demonstrating the proper method of carrying out a small-unit
The fall rain pounded against the almost opaque window of the car or the miserable excuse of one they were driving. The fall leaves scattered across the highway made a satisfying crunch as the car scuttled away to its next destination. Inside John was getting vexed by the crappiness of the ride, driving the car with one hand and trying to massage his aching back with the other. The already uncomfortable seat paired with the seemingly endless amount of potholes made the idea of a proper ride seem almost as plausible as a cure. Thinking back to the time when he rode his Harley—its smooth leather seat, the roar of the engine, and the wind in his face— he, as he often times would, began to linger in memories of the past. Meanwhile, in the backseat,
And bleed he did. The thick pool of red surrounding him quickly. He was not sure how much blood he was losing, but it was more than enough for him to pass out.
We don’t really have much of a plan set out yet. It’s been 5 weeks. We just want to escape from this torture.
... ice pack pressed to his neck. Three of the disenchanted beasts had pursued my father into the house and the crashing sounds were those of the ensuing chase and massacre in the living room.
Typically when people think about me their thought process inevitably leads them to ponder on violence which appears to be caused by religious disputes, most notably of these occurrences being the Crusades. This often leaves individuals questioning my inhabitants and quartering them off into rigid binaries of Christian and Muslim: us versus them. This fixation scholars and thinkers have had for centuries is incredibly frustrating, as it delineates from understanding my true identity, but it also perpetuates misconceptions about my Islamic citizens which continue to exist to this very day. This misjudgment of my character doesn’t allow individuals to realize that my existence has encouraged and at times forced the cooperation between civilizations
