He looks to his left. The tall grass blowing in the warm summer breeze hits the side of his cheek and he squints. In the distance, he spots a peculiar scene. A large field over a hill with what could be thousands of sunflowers shines in the summer sun. His eyes close and he breathes in the sweet smell of the midsummer air. He notices that in the middle of that field stands a giant scarecrow. A puzzled look came across his face, realizing that the scarecrow had not been there before he had closed his eyes. He runs with anticipation toward the bright yellow field. While he is running, the scarecrow seems to stare him down. Every step he takes, he feels more and more fear boil within him.
Standing two feet away from the scarecrow, he begins to question his motives. A feeling of fear spread throughout his body. What am doing here? Why did I run all this way to look at a this scarecrow? As he was thinking to himself, the scarecrow disappeared. He quickly looks from left to right with shock. There is no scarecrow in sight. As he runs, all of the sunflowers begin to turn various shades of red

and blue. He gasps and stops to catch his breath and to gaze at the changing flowers. He picks one from its stem and it slowly changes from blue back to its original golden yellow color. He looks up and then back down at his hands, the flower has disappeared. He looks back at the flowers that are in front of him.
Now, they are changing from purple to green. He gives them a questioning look. He didn't even bother to pick one, knowing it will disappear as soon as it hits his hands. He starts to walk casually throughout the colorful field. He hears a rustling to his right, he spots the scarecrow once again. Only now, the scarecrow has a new look on his straw face. It is twisted into a friendly smile. All of his fear towards the scarecrow simply vanishes. The scarecrow reaches out its stiff straw arm, and inches out its finger to draw him near. He could not stop himself from strolling toward the scarecrow. As he comes closer to the straw figure, it morphs into an actual human male. Yet, he still has all of the features of a scarecrow. He looks at the man and gives him an amazed look. He thinks to himself, how could this even be
possible? The man simply tilts his hat towards him and strolls away into the never ending abyss of color changing sunflowers. He looks around, still puzzled on what just happened. He closes his eyes, sighing, still feeling the heat of the sun. When he opens his eyes, he looks right at himself. He jumps, startled at his own reflection. In front of him stands a large mirror. He looks at himself, quizzically. He looks behind him through the mirror and realizes that all of the sunflowers are shooting back into the ground at an alarming rate. He turns away from the mirror and observes all of the colorful flowers disappearing into the earth before his very eyes. He looks up at the sky and feels the sun shine down on him even harder than before. When he looks away from the sunlight, he sees only one flower remaining. This flower is not like the rest, it is a normal yellow color. He walks slowly to the flower and lays down next to it and gently closes his eyes. He can feel the warm breeze whip his hair with the tall grass. Moments later, he slowly opens his tired eyes and looks to his left. He sees a golden field of sunflowers
Lucille Fletcher’s story “The Hitchhiker”, is a story that creates fear in the hearts of some people. And not just any fear, a fear that would impel even the strongest man to go insane. The main character, Ronald Adams, had that fear, with seeing a hitchhiker more than ten times drove him to almost getting hit by a train. Fletcher creates an effective, and suspenseful story, with the use of elemental plots.
The readings “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving and The Monster by Stephen Crane are to amazing readings. However, these two texts represent violence and conflicts in different ways, which shows that although they have the same concept their tactic for this same concept is used in a different approach.

The ability to make the reader immersed in the story and the main character is the best thing to have when writing a piece. It helps the reader decide whether to keep reading or not. This ability is known as imagery. Imagery is writing with metaphors and the five sense, which creates a scene for the reader. Imagery is basically the way the author shows the reader what the main character or narrator is seeing. Janet Burroway, author of “Imaginative Writing”, which is a book about writing and the components of it, states that Image is, “An image is a word or series of words that evokes one or more of the five senses.” (Burroway, 15) Imagery is very important and good authors know how to use it to add more meaning and power to their literature.
On a stormy night, Mr. Van Garrett is making his way through the fields in a horse drawn carriage, with a mysterious figure on horseback not far behind him. With the sound of a “swoosh” by a sword, his horseman’s head comes off, forcing Van Garrett to abandon the carriage. As he makes his way through the cornfields, he too meets his fate as the same figure slices his head clean off of his body.
Suddenly the blissful world she was in a moment ago disintegrates. As she escapes with frantic haste Eliza espies a group of dying flowers rotting away in silence with the once dazzling petals wilting in desperation, overtaken by a russet plague. The trees she once admired so are taken over by hosts of mites who have infiltrated the internal organs of the giant. A bird lands on a windowsill with a squirming worm in its beak and proceeds to enact nature’s order by calmly devouring the thing while the worm desperately battles a losing campaign as the bird’s comrades virtuously chorus a lullaby, calling for it to sleep.
...he chilling thought that he had been decoyed into a trap. But the sound died away; it was apparently nothing more sinister than a few horses frolicking in a pasture.
The Creature That Opened My Eyes Sympathy, anger, hate, and empathy, these are just a few of the emotions that came over me while getting to know and trying to understand the creature created by victor frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. For the first time I became completely enthralled in a novel and learned to appreciate literature not only for the great stories they tell but also for the affect it could have on someones life as cliché as that might sound, if that weren’t enough it also gave me a greater appreciation and understanding of the idiom “never judge a book by its cover.” As a pimply faced, insecure, loner, and at most times self absorbed sophomore in high school I was never one to put anytime or focus when it came time
As he ran off into the darkness, so many questions were going through my mind, “Does he live around here? Did the pumpkin really turn into a man? Did he tie up my neighbors? Was he trying to scare me? Was it really my teacher?”
Imagination is one of the most unique and fascinating elements of the human mind. It is essentially using one’s mental abilities and memories to create specific imagery. This imagery helps people to be innovative, conceptualize, and come up with clever solutions to solve difficult problems. Imagination allows people to go outside of reality in order to envision ideas that they could not visualize otherwise. Without imagination, there would be very little originality and ingenuity. Unfortunately, people are slowly becoming less imaginative because of mind-numbing activities, society’s lack of encouraging creativity, and an educational system that emphasizes
After reaching the top of the hill and starting her slow descent she faces two more obstacles, a thorn bush that catches her dress and she is compelled to carefully crawl under barbed wire fence. Upon concurring these obstacles, Phoenix was as feisty and spirited as ever, taking a moment to dance with a scarecrow she encountered in a corn
It was a beautiful night. It was perfect for a walk. As I strolled further into the park a figure approached me. It was as dark as pitch so I couldn’t make out who it was. It was late; you wouldn’t usually see anyone at this time. My heart was beating faster and faster. The strange thing was I wasn’t frightened; it was just my heart beating rapidly. As the masculine figure approached, I began to walk slower. That was when I heard the voice.
One warm night, he came through the bedroom window. His sudden intrusion angered me. That was the first time I saw him in this house. His tiny round eyes seemed innocent enough, but he was frightened by my stare. His skinny long legs were trembling. He turned his head, saying, "I'm completely lost." That was certainly not a good excuse for breaking into my private property. "Hey, YOU, get outta here," I said as I picked him and threw him out of the window. "Never come back!"
So there I was getting ready to cut the pumpkin and then it started to glow. “Oh look a newcomer, let me start from the beginning of the story”. It was three days before Halloween Michael and I were going to the farm to pick up a pumpkin for our Halloween party to make my famous pumpkin pie for the party. We went creepy looking farm and when we got there we thought just decorations Halloween. Farmer Jason was there to greet us when we entered the gates. We went to fields to find a pumpkin. There was nothing there. We decided to go to the corn maze the skeletons in there looked a little too real to me. Michael said he had fun, so i guess that is all that matters really. After we got out of the maze Farmer Jason was there to greet us and he ad found a pumpkin for us. It was exactly what we wanted for our pie big, plump, and ripe. When we got to buy the Pumpkin Jason says “Be careful with that pumpkin they usually don’t stay that ripe a long period of time.”
Sometimes being scared is fun, but not when you feel like you’re in danger. Proof of this is a personal experience of mine; When I was young, I had gotten into trouble and my parents told me to put my nose in a specific corner while they went to the store. I stayed there for what felt like eternity and all of a sudden, my sister starts running down the hall screaming bloody murder saying, “Run Sheridyn! Run!” Immediately I start screaming, shaking, running, and crying all at the same time. Then my other sister came out of the hall wearing a Scream costume and started chasing me. I become even more terrified and this causes me to fall. Before I had time to process what had happened, they both stopped what they were doing to laugh while I felt like my life flashed before my eyes. In that moment, I knew that something about myself was different.
