'This year's been a good one for snow.' Candlewick mumbled, a statement which was frequently heard from her during these months. She drifted through the living room somewhat aimlessly, admiring the gorgeous January sunset that gleamed magnificently through the frosty bay windows, throwing prismatic rays of evening light over the frozen river. Glancing back into the main room, she pressed her fingertip to the glass' misty surface. Candlewick stared dreamily out over the beautiful snow-covered hills, tracing their outline into the frost. Under her breath, she began to whistle a quiet tune. From the tattered couch in the corner, a cheerful whisper broke out, humming the same song. From the kitchen, a chirpy voice began to sing softly, as the clatter …show more content…

Suddenly, Centennial's front door flew open and through the flurry of freezing snow that was whisked into the hallway, a figure hurried into the cabin. In an instant, everyone stopped talking. All eyes turned to the girl, who stood shivering in the front hall. Her glasses were foggy with the cold, and her hair was full of snow. Aqua put down her mug and hurried over to her. 'Are you okay?' She asked as the table began to once again buzz with conversation. 'Yeah, thank God your door's unlocked. Would've froze out there.' The girl mumbled with a laugh, taking off her snow-covered jacket. 'Can I hang this up?' 'Yeah, of course.' Aqua said, latching the front door behind her. 'Storm, what were you doing out there?' 'Nothing.' She replied dismissively, wiping the condensation off of her glasses. She continued under her breath, so only Aqua could hear. 'Lloydians are getting insane. Bunch o' fourth graders kicked me out. Took the opportunity to get somewhere quieter.' Aqua shook her head. 'You can't let a bunch of nine-year-olds walk all over you like that. You're staff.' 'Just wanted to get away from 'em for a bit.' Storm insisted, carefully putting her shoes on the beaten cloth shoe mat. Her shoes were plain old gray running shoes, not fit for traversing the distance from Lloyd to Centennial in this weather. 'Do Jaf and Pi know you're here?' 'Yeah. Can I just stay here for a little while until the kids get settled down?' Storm wandered …show more content…

Storm sighed exhaustedly, which quickly gave away to an unusually loud laugh. 'Well,' She replied sarcastically, reaching into her pocket, 'one o' our usual suspects made this beautiful masterpiece today and put it in my warm-'n-fuzzy envelope.' She unfolded a torn sheet of lime-green construction paper. 'Belongs in the Louvre.' She said with a giggle, passing the sheet to Google. Google took one look at the piece and broke into a fit of laughter. 'Ju - just look at this, Nugget.' She threw the paper to Nugget. In thick black crayon, there was written a simple message; "STORM IS MEAN BCAUSE SHE WON'T LET US HAVE THE SPRINKLES". Beneath it was a scribbled stormcloud with an exaggerated frowning face. Nugget couldn't help but laugh herself. Suddenly, there was a startling crash as a massive chunk of ice collided noisily with the back window, causing everyone to jump a little. Everyone's fear quickly turned to goofy laughter at the sight of one another's panic. 'Beautiful.' Nugget commented, handing the folded leaflet of paper back to Storm, who returned it to her pants pocket. 'Rare to see weather like this, eh guys? Even in Canada. Good year for snow.' Candlewick said, gesturing to the window. Storm looked at the white-out blizzard that raged outside. The thought of having to walk back to Lloyd in the horrendous weather made her nervous. 'That kid is a savage.' Google
