6. One disadvantage of using financial statements is the fact you cannot always provide people what they deserve due to cost. Greg said in many corporations certain repairs; equipment and pay raises have to be put aside, this is if the cost of production is too high and outweighs the revenue we make. One example was the Mayweather and McGregor fight. The fight was broadcasted on pay per view only and would have cost the company $9,000.00 to show the match. Greg mentioned that the cover charge per person would exceed $100.00 plus food and alcohol sales just to break even, this high cost was one of the reasons Quaker did not show the fight. 7. During the interview, Greg used many terms discussed in class including: revenue, labor cost, capital,
In United States v. Alvarez, Xavier Alvarez claimed that he was a retired marine who had received the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1987 for being wounded repeatedly by the same person in combat. These claims were made in an attempt to have him gain more respect from his peers. The claim was that Alvarez had violated the Stolen Valor Act of 2005. The Stolen Valor Act of 2005 states that there are protections against claiming to have received some type of military honor, such as the Medal of Honor and other military decorations and awards (GovTrack). The Government stated that there was first amendment value applicable to Alvarez’s false statements, and that his statements caused harm to others. By making this statement, it was argued that the value of the award of Honor would drop and that this type of false speech falls under the same category as speaking falsely on behalf of the government or as a government official. However, since his statements were not made with the intention of financial benefits or special treatment, his false claims may not be illegal because they were made for the purpose of gaining respect.

According to Marshall, McManus and Viele (2004), accounting is “the process of identification, measurement, communication of information about a business for the purpose of making decisions and informed judgment” (p.3). Decision makers look at balance sheets, income statements, changes in the owner’s equity and cash flow statement as documentation of the viability of an entity. Misrepresentation of the financial statements can place doubt of profitability in any company. The need for accountability and regulation of accounting practices is important in preserving trust in the business community.
