Pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) easily dispatched the challenge of former two-time welterweight champion Andre Berto (30-4, 23 KOs) in another lackluster 12-round unanimous decision victory at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Mayweather, who predictably won the match in all scorecards, 120-108, 118-110, and 117-111, told reporters afterward that he is officially out of the sport and that he will not miss a thing about it.
“My career is over. It’s official,” said the pay-per-view king, as reported by ESPN. “Hopefully, we can find the next Floyd Mayweather who can break the record. Right now, I only want to spend time with my family.”

finishing his slate tied with that of the late great Rocky Marciano at 49-0, something that Mayweather seemed not too enthusiastic about. “That means it’s part of boxing history. Records are made to be broken,” the reigning WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring welterweight champion candidly said after being inquired about his and Marciano’s feats. Mayweather’s fight with Berto is the sixth and final one in his two and a half year contract with TV and broadcast giant Showtime/CBS and there are no indications as of the moment that it is going to be extended.
The Guardian noted that because he already finished the Showtime deal, he is officially a free agent and can command “his own price” for another potential record-breaking fight next year.
Mayweather insisted that he is hanging up his gloves to end a boxing career that basically included staying away from punches and using in-ring smarts to deter any exchanges.
Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole said that “while he didn’t always fight the way many fans wanted, he leaves the sport with his faculties intact and hundreds of million in the bank,” which seemed to be the 38-year-old’s goal all along.
“There’s nothing else for me to do in the sport of boxing. I made great investments, I’m financially stable, well off. I had a great career. My record speaks for itself,” Mayweather said.
Although the champion is adamant that this is his farewell fight, a lot of people are not buying his claim especially that a new 20,000-seater MGM arena is reportedly being built behind the Las Vegas strip.
MGM officials are said to be eyeing Mayweather to kick off activities in the new stadium when it opens in

Boxing in the 1920’s? You better believe it! Jack Dempsey was considered one of the very best in the sport of boxing. He possessed the aggression of a grizzly bear in the ring but the gentle spirit of a teddy bear outside the ring. This drew him into the hearts of many. Due to his extreme popularity he opened the door to public radio. For these reasons, Jack Dempsey was influential to the 1920’s and even to this very day.
De La Hoya, earned $9 million dollars for the bout and preserved his position as boxing non--heavy weight superstar.

Remnick does not shy away from discussing the shadowy history of the boxing world (no pun intended). It's well known boxing has been affiliated with the 'mob,' but perhaps what is lesser known is Clay's absolute refusal to be in any way associated with the Mafia.
After that fight things went downhill, he had lost and fought a total of 16 out of 22 fights which led to a broken right
Tyson Fury, a force to be reckoned with most certainly, is about to take part in the fight of his life tomorrow night against Wladimir Klitschko. Klitschko, 39, will be defending his WBA, IBF and WBO belts against Fury, 27, and what a fight it looks to be. With Fury citing himself as Klitschko’s “worst nightmare”, we really can’t wait to see the big guy in action.
A long time ago, back in the olden days, Bruno Sammartino was a superhero who sold out Madison Square Garden countless times. Back in those times, wrestling strictly adhered to kayfabe, so many of the fans believed
Thus, whether or not the case for legal prohibition is determinative, many reasons have been given for moral concern about boxing. It is perfectly appropriate for those who share such moral concerns to refuse to support boxing, to urge others to refrain from supporting it, and to advocate strong reforms in the practice of boxing. Muhammad Ali was not the kind of person that gets taken away with fame and money. He is a simple, unsophisticated person with a very loving heart, and very determined (Hauser 186). He did not care much about himself, he enjoyed making people happy. While training, he let people come and see him, charging them to see the show. Doing so, he earned about $1000 a day. After the ...
The newspapers, the streets, billboards, people even got posters and t-shirts of my husband, Jim Braddock the heavyweight champion! Oh how life life is going be now. I'm so excited for him, for our family, for us. The kids don’t have to be hungry anymore. We have money we have food, and we also have a new pet for the kids. They are so excited, probably even more than their dad is. I so happy he made it out alive. Oh good god I was so nervous for him. I can't wait until he comes back from his next fight tonight. It's going to start real soon. I hate watching him fight so I'll just have my friends tell me what happened when it's over. I heard the guy he's fighting is new so no one knows how good he really is. Hopefully he's new enough that it won't last long until he's
He has not always been the unstoppable force that destroys everything on the way. Pacquiao did not face serious competition until 2004 when he encountered Juan Manuel Marquez and fought to a draw. In 2005, he was defeated by Erik Morales. Only after that painful loss to Morales, Pacquiao started his victorious rising to the top. He started collecting more key victories and looked like a real champion defeating the top fighters one after another. While considering that Pacquiao has been in the ring for already 20 years it would be right to add that he really started to position himself as an elite boxer for only last 8-9 years (Vassalo). The fact that he was not as good as he is now for the rest of his career lowers his chances in a head-to-head battle with Mayweather for the crown of the all-time
Shortly after winning the Gold Medal, Ali started looking for better opportunities by saying, “that was my last amateur fight, I’m turning pro, but I don’t know exactly how. I want a good contract with a good manager.” Ali felt that he was on top of the world after winning in the Olympics and felt confident that people of the U.S. would be proud of his accomplishment as he brought home the “Gold”. What Ali would return to find wasn’t anything like he had expected.
My mother was in love with him and got me into boxing at an oddly young age; she showed me the elegance and grace in the sport. Also, having grown up down South in extreme poverty, she'd been an early and fervent civil rights activist; admiring him (and MX) was natural. My brother and I were (coincidentally) raised believing in so many of his causes that he never became distant from my thoughts.
