Corruption of power in Hamlet Several of the characters in Hamlet are meant to be involved in betraying and deceiving each other. With this happening throughout the play it shows if the characters will remain the same or will they take matters into their own hands. This will be the time where you truly find out how the people around you act on certain situations. It’s like survival of the fittest, only those with power will survive and the powerless will lose. With Claudius becoming King he isn’t a very good leader and he isn’t setting a good example to the people. How can you be the King and not set a positive image for the people of Denmark?As for prince Hamlet he has become corrupt because he finds out his mother and uncle have incest going on. This shows Prince Hamlet’s madness because now he has to watch his uncle and mother be together. As for Gertrude she is going through sexual corruption. After her husband dies she gets married and has sex with Claudius. This shows how her soul is corrupt and shows she doesn’t care what others think about her. Then Political corruption was when Claudius killed his brother so that he can become King. Claudius knew if his brother died he would automatically get the position to become the King. According to the play “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark," and by the end of the play, the entire royal family is slaughtered.” This place is so corrupted because you have betrayal going on. It was many corrupt things going on in the story between the characters that caused a lot of conflict. The characters started feeling guilty and wanted forgiveness for the bad things they had done. With all the corruption that’s going on the characters begin to have guilty souls. This is common for people when they’re doing something that they know others won 't agree with. Sometimes people do stuff even though they know it’s wrong but to prove a point. Claudius tries to pray for forgiveness after the stuff he had done. Gertrude realizes that what she had done was wrong and that she betrayed her own husband and son. Laertes apologizes for poisoning Prince Hamlet.
