Corruption in Power Power is a something many people seek to have in life. Once people receive power they can become corrupt. People can use power for good or for bad, it can also be used to hurt or help people. It can destroy or build up society even puts people in power in hope to build success. People even give power and over their belongings and their finances. Once these individuals are in power how can we trust them not to abuse their power? We will explore some examples of some individuals that have abused the power given to them. There are many examples where people have become corrupt when they acquired power. One example of this happening is during the Stanford Prison Experiment when the guards were abusing their power and treating the prisoners very horribly. The Stanford Prison Experiment also known as Zimbardo took place on August 14-20 1971, but it was supposed to last for 2 weeks (Prisonexp.org 2). It took place in the Basement of Stanford Universities Psychology building where they made it into a makeshift prison. Over 70 people applied for the study but only 24 were chosen. Everybody was paid $15 a Day. The goal was to see how people would act when they were put in jail and told to act like guards and prisoners to simulate life in prison (Mcloed Zimbardo). …show more content…
